One of the best MetroidVanias of all time. Shocker, the best Castlevania game gets a 5 star from me.

I love this game so much. This was the start of my love for Castlevania. Now this is not a perfect game. Especially this version of the game. It does not have the original meme worthy voice acting. So that is a downgrade. But my review is based on SotN as a whole. not just this version.

Exploring and traversal are top notch. It controls like a dream. It looks beautiful. Enemy design, character design, setting, vibes, are all fantastic.

All the music in this series are certified bangers. It's such a joy to play this game and hum along with. Some of my favorite music in gaming.

Difficulty wise it's easy. A great introduction to Castlevania and metroidvanias. It has a very nice steady difficulty with no major curves. You will still die a lot. You will still struggle with bosses but after a few tries, it won't be hard. One time did I get frustrated and that was a very late game boss which is optional.

A few complaints, puzzles are cryptic. Getting the true ending is cryptic. A few areas are hard to get to with no way of knowing how to get to them. Even at the end. A bonus mode, Richter Mode, would be fun if not for the button combos that do not work well. Like stupidly high skill kinda combos.

The story is fine. It is there. You don't play these for story. But it is one of the better stories in the series. Plenty of plot twists.

Seriously though, one of my favorite games of all time. I look forward to playing it again. I highly recommend to any anyone interested in CV or Metroidvanias.

A pretty simple puzzle game with cute ideas and style.

There is not much to say about this game. It's a simple puzzle game but also a 2d platformer most of the time. You play as a cute little stick person. Push boxes, use keys, take specific items to their given place, etc. The gimmick is that you have control of the order you through the rooms. Let me explain more.

Your stick person is exploring puzzles on flat surfaces in the real world. For example, street signs, graph paper, walls of buildings, etc. Solving puzzles causes thing in the real world to change. Sometimes you can move some of the peaces in the real worls in order to solve your current puzzle.

The only time the game gets really challenging is the last puzzle. The only time I needed to look up the answer. It get really hard to know exactly what you are changing and how to piece it all together. The reason is because the area is too big and it's tedious to go back and forth. By that point I wanted the game to end as well. With enough trial an error you can do it, it will just take time. The end was cute and worth it.

I got all the trophies easily. It's a fun game to play once. But it doesn't leave a last impression.

A short and cute metroidvania about a cat.

This is such a neat little game. Plays a lot like a simplified Metroid. That's really all I can say gameplay wise. It pretty self explanatory. No gimmicks. Just Metroid, but you are a cat.

Traversal of the world is fun. I've gotten 100% map and collectables twice. It's mostly a chill vibe. The world is nothing special but the characters are neat. The story has some neat beats.

There are only 2 issues. First, it's a flashy game. Photosensitive beware. The second is that boss fights are infuriating. Most are a bit too hard. Like, it can be done, but still, a bit hard compared to the rest of the game. Also you can't skip cutscenes if I remember. So that can be annoying.

Anyways, a cute metroidvania. Very chill. Nothing mind blowing but a solid experience. Stray wishes it could be this good. This is the superior cat game.

A great adaptation to an old forgotten Manga/Anime Series.

I great up watching the anime. It kind of abruptly ends. This takes place long after that. A lot of story I never got to read. So in terms of story, I honestly had no idea what was going on. But I still feel like it was good. I didn't need any info from other material. It does tell you basic things. The story just kind of exists. You don't play metroidvanias for the story.

This is pretty much Castlevania Symphony of the Night. The only major twist being the bullet hell nature with a mix of Ikuruga. Essentially there are 2 elements of attacks. You and switch in between them to avoid damage but also helps you replenish MP. Gameplay is fun.

Exploring is a lot of fun. It's the best part. The classic metroidvania formula. I completed 100% of the map. Traversal is fun too.

My only really gripe is boss fights can be major difficulty spikes. Especially the final boss. It can also be it bit flashy. In both the photosensitivity way and the there is too much going on.

A great game to get your metroidvania fix. It has some great ideas. An evolution of the Tohou Lunar Nights gameplay. It's well worth your time. Don't let not knowing the source material stop you.

Yet another great game by the same devs as Unfinished Swan.

Warning, this game is triggering. It's not really a happy game. But still a fantastic ride.

Gameplay varies greatly. Most things don't overstay their welcome. But some are better than others.

It's a pretty game. Also very stylized. It jumps through genres often and does a great job sucking you back in each time. The world is neat. You really start to become curious about it.

A touching story. Not happy. Can be triggering. But still worth experiencing. It's good for a 1 time playthrough.

A very cute game with very cute ideas.

This is a such a cute game. Very chill. Not too long. Changes up the gimmicks often.

It was pretty when it came out and still pretty now. Very stylized and sets the vibe well.

It controls well. No realy complaints there. The vine gimmick is a bit tedious. The worst part of the game. But still fun enough.

The story is just cute and heartfelt. Cheerful with a tone of saddness. The vibes change in ways that are surprising. It does it all well.

I've played this game twice. Both times a were fun. Nothing special, but still fun.

A game that starts out strong and just falls flat. This game is, "what if God of War classic but everything is worse".

It starts out fun enough. It's just kind of insane and action packed. The mask is the best part of the game. He is very unhinged.

Controls are jank. Like they are fine. But don't expect it to control as well as GOW or ever Dante's Inferno. The QTEs are bad. They are hard to see as they are on the edges of the screen and give you zero time.

Platforming is not great either. It's hard to time jumps. Sometimes things just do not time their cycles and you just die. Sometimes it's hard to know if you can jump to something, where to jump, or how far it is.

This game lasts way too long. Like a few hours too long. It would be kinda more charming and the jank would not start to be annoying if it was a shorter game.

One neat thing are the cutscenes though. They are unique.

The final boss is thankfully a joke though. Which was well welcomed after it dragging on way too long.

The credit sequence is a choice. It's a mini game. But really bad. No music. Controls terribly. It was sure a thing.

This is a game that outstays it welcome. Thus waring thin and all the jank piles up. Ruining the experience by the end. It was never going to be a great game. But if it was shorter, it could have at least been mediocre or average. At least it's usually very cheap on Steam.

A very cute game with a lot of charm. Sadly it doesn't really change from start to finish. Very basic gameplay.

The art style looks really nice. A very colorful game. Very cute. Story is cute but basic.

The controls are fine mostly. A little jank but fine. The jank rarely becomes a problem. Platforming can be a little hard at times since it's hard to judge distance.

Combat is very basic. It barely changes all game. The bosses can be difficult as they have Invincibility Frames. But mostly, if you die once, you will crush it the next time. The final boss however is a bit long and infuriating. You can't skip cutscenes and it's a bit jank.

After beating the game, it wants you to go through every area but backwards in order to get the true ending. I just could not. It already wore out its welcome and I wasn't going to play the entire game again.

I lasts too long. But I also know it was meant to be played 1 level at a time and put down. Like most handheld games. It's not a bad game. I love the characters. The voice acting is cute. Not great but not bad either. The largest issue the game has is that it just very basic and never really changes throught the game. Has some really good music though.

A cute game that may last slightly too long.

This game is unique. It very goofy. Has a silly story. I really enjoyed it for what it is. It's kinda like reverse Katamari.

Characters are cute. They all are written well. They are endearing. I still smile thinking about them today.

My only complaint is that I felt like it lasted a little too long. But I was also new to streaming. So it may have just been me not having the stamina to stream for that long yet. A solid one time play.

I have beaten this game too many times. I love this game, but it is majorly flawed.

Lets talk about the good. Most of the characters are well fleshed out. Each character is viable. On my recent attempt I used Amarant for the first time seriously. They are incredibly fun and I have never crushed the final boss in that way before. It was a great new experience for me.

Story is good. But slow. It has some of the best written characters in the series. Plenty of comedic moments to contrast the serious story.

Combat is basic but fun. This is as basic as the SNES classic Final Fantasys. Which was a good choice after the mess that is FF8 and it's broken combat.

I have always enjoyed learning passive and active abilities from equipment. It scratches this primal itch for me. I just love seeing number go up and me gaining either levels or abilities. This is really rewards explore the world trying to find all the equipment.

The world is also really fleshed out. There are a lot of easter eggs from other games. There are these grand scale areas that for the time, were amazing.

One of the biggest side quests is Choco Hot and Cold. It gives you fantastic rewards. It's a great way to relax. It takes a lot though. And it's grindy.

Now lets talk about the bad. I will talk about how you can fix most of these issues though. Great story but it's so slow. There are times when you will read for an hour or two with no combat unless you go to the world map. This is terrible. This is why I don't read outloud now on stream.

I love that equipment teaches you things. But I understand that it requires a lot of grinding for AP. It also requires a lot of money and micromanagement. And stealing unique equipment from bosses is insanely frustrating and tedious.

Characters are either well fleshed out or not at all. There is no middle ground. And Zidaine, sucks. He just sucks. They made him the main character because for some reason Garnet and Vivi were not able sell the game. Probably because they are not traditional male characters. The game revolves around Vivi and Garnet. All the themes directly tie to their stories. Zidaine is unlikeable and gets zero character development until disc 3. He doesn't grow until then.

Combat issues. It's just so slow. Like everything is slow. Loading in and out of battle takes forever. And Trance is annoying because 1 you cannot control when it pops and 2 it also takes forever to activate and deactivate.

The card game makes sense, until it doesn't. Sometimes it just does things and you have no idea what went wrong. Luckily it can be mostly ignored. They do force you to play it once. You don't need to win, but it's worth it if you do. I've only collected all the cards a few times. I don't think I'll ever do it again.

I know it sounds like I hate this game. I don't. I just want people to get both sides. Be well informed of the flaws.

Now, how can you fix a lot of these flaws. I've played this game legit enough times that I have no need to ever play it without Boosters. Give yourself max money. Use 2x/4x speed. Especially to grind Choco Hot and Cold. It actually just breaks it because you are faster but the timer still goes at normal speed.

You can break the game even more with Moguri Mod. A fantastic mod that not only graphically enhances it, adds great orchestrated music, but also adds some other boosters. Like Zidaine 100% steals. Solving the problem of missing boss equipment or wasting time stealing over and over with low steal success rates.

This is a grind heavy game. It is a slow game. The boosters really do make the experience better. From someone who has play without boosters so many times, it is simply better with boosters.

I look forward to playing it again once we get Echo-S voice acting. I think it'll help pace the game a bit better.

I love this game so much. But I understand it's so flawed. I'm giving it a high rating because I love it. I have a lot of nostalgia. But under no circumstances do I recommend playing it without boosters or Moguri Mod. I played it a couple years ago on stream with Moguri Mod and it really helped. But I still really noticed all the issues. Great game though.

I'm going to go as far as to say, there are better Final Fantasy games. FF6 and FF7 are better in many ways. I just love FF9 more. Probably because of best boi Vivi. The best Final Fantasy character.

This here is a bad game, but in the best of ways. I laughed a lot playing this. It's very meme worthy.

Lets give credit where credit is due. The concept of Little Red Riding Hood but dark is a decent idea. The art direction is neat. But that's all the good I can say. If you are looking for Alice: Madness Returns, you will not get it.

The game sure has controls. They work. They exist. But also are super jank.

The level design is very bland and basic. Sometimes it's hard to know where you can and cannot be.

Puzzles range from, simple to baby to "oh that was supposed to be a puzzle" Sometimes the timers are a bit too long or short.

Cutscenes range from very mid to very jank to hilariously jank. Same with the voice acting. It's not good. But sometimes bad enough to be funny.

This game is funny but it's never intentional. It's so bruiting and dark. So moody. Yet the main character mostly is forced to talk in rhymes until they give up on it.

I want to make this clear. Don't play this. But if you really want to, it's short. Only overstays it's welcome slightly. Go in knowing it's not a good game. Maybe you will get a laugh a two.

The devs sure had passion. You can see that. But game making just isn't their strong suit.

Like this game tried. It tried so hard. And got so far. But in the end.... it sure was a game I played.

A good game that controls poorly.

I love this game. It was made before the age of twin stick shooters. And thus, by today's standards, it controls pretty horribly. Everything is inverted by default. You can change that though. Which, props to the devs on that one. You can mostly fix the controls. Except for the landmaster. It will always be annoying to control.

The game excels during the arwing missions. They are by far the best part.

An issue with the game as a whole is that it's repetitive. You get the same mission types over and over. The timers are a bit to strict but luckily if you fail, you can speedrun things since you know where the objectives are.

The worst part of the game are the on rail missions when you ride on top of an ally flying their arwing. They are very strict. It's not kind. It's very trial and error. They demand near perfection.

It's still a pretty game. It advances the Star Fox lore. Taking place after Star Fox Adventures. The story is neat. All in all, a good game.

If you are nostalgic for it, maybe don't go back though. I played a lot of multiplayer with friends when I was younger. I have a lot of good memories of it. But playing it now, I really saw the issues. This one might be better to keep as a good memory.

2016

Abzu is a beautiful game. I really enjoyed my time with this short experience.

The puzzles are mostly well telegraphed. Controls well. The world is gorgeous. It has a great vibe. As someone with a fear of the deep ocean, as you will never convince me that the ocean doesn't want us dead, it isn't that triggering.

My only real complaint is that the mines are flashy. At some moments you cannot turn away from them. So those who are photosensitive beware.

This is a beautiful game. A nice experience. Gorgeous world. Well worth playing.

I am Setsuna might be the most mid game I have ever played. Like it is just so mediocre in every single way. So forgettable.

It plays fine. It looks fine. The story is very uninspired. It's so mediocre. So predictable. I did not care about anything going on tbh. There is also this illusion of choice. They give you choices that don't matter.

Combat is fine. It's really basic. It's just a slightly more complex Chrono Trigger but less fun.

The music is probably the only thing that stands out. It's pretty good. But that is the best compliment I can give it.

When I say the game looks fine, it's actually decently pretty. The problem is that the environments are not varied at all. Mostly white due to all the snow. It just ends up being bland after awhile.

This isn't a bad game. It's a game of all time. The most game of all time. The most mid.

This is such an amazing game. Especially for a game that was changed to a jrpg 6 months prior to release. It def has a bit of jank due to that but nothing game breaking.

The story is one of the best stories in jrpg history. But Yakuza always has a great story. The characters are well fleshed out. A bit stereotypical but great. The story is a journey. I would not dare spoil any of it. Just know, it's long but worth every second.

The combat works well. Bosses can be a bit tanky at times. Taking like 20-30 minutes. Sometimes, the characters can get stuck and have to warp or break free in order to attack. They all kind of walk around the map freely, covering all sides, keeping an eye on each enemy, kinda like a real fight. This leads to slight issues as I said. Them getting stuck for a second or them being far enough away that the enemy get an attack in before they can. However, this is not a major annoyance.

More about the combat, it's a job class game. Each character has specialized classes. Their outfits change with their classes. But In general, I kept them in their original classes mostly.

It's a really fun jrpg. A bit slower combat. But for a first attempt at it, the devs did fantastic. You can tell that it was a last minute change but that's okay.

Now on to the biggest 2 issue. In late chapters, the game requires you to grind for a stupid amount of money in order to progress. It's incredibly frustrating if you just want to progress the story but you have to waste your time. Some people say, just play this easy business mini game and you get the money easily, sorry, but I hated that mini game and it still takes like 1-2hrs to get it. It doesn't respect your time. There are a few quicker ways to get it if you hate the mini game like me. And they will help you finish some side quests.

The second issue is right after that paywall, the boss is a major difficulty spike. They put an arena type side quest near it. It's a side quest but you will 100% have to do it. The arena was fun, don't get me wrong. But yet again, if you just want to keep going with story, it's just a major disrespect of your time.

In true Yakuza fashion, side quests are insane. A welcomed break from the serious dramatic story. Always fun and well worth it, not only for the stories but the rewards.

But in general, this is an amazing game. I love it so much. The story is amazing. The world and characters are well fleshed out. You don't need to worry about playing previous Yakuza games. It does a great job of introducing things from previous games. A story full of twists, turns, and emotions. It's a very immersive world.
