2 started the job system but 5 perfected it, even decades down the line JRPGs like Bravely Default are copying its exact model. While 5's plot is more basic than its predecessor it more than makes up for it with genuinely funny, and sometimes touching, character interaction.

Gilgamesh is the series' best character

The definitive installment of the series, my only hope is the next patch fixes community figureheads screwing children.

Just fine, the music is excellent but the gameplay is totally nondescript with the exception of two fights en route to the worst ending. The writing is the particular breed of western indie quirk that constantly toes the line between mildly funny and grating.
