Games That Reference The Gentlemen Thief, Arséne Lupin

Arséne Lupin is a fictional gentleman thief and master of disguise created in 1905 by French writer Maurice Leblanc. The character was first introduced in a series of short stories serialized in the magazine Je sais tout. The first story, "The Arrest of Arsène Lupin", was published on 15 July 1905.

Lupin was featured in 17 novels and 39 novellas by Leblanc, with the novellas or short stories collected into book form for a total of 24 books. The number becomes 25 if the 1923 novel The Secret Tomb is counted: Lupin does not appear in it, but the main character Dorothée solves one of Arsène Lupin's four fabulous secrets.

The character has also appeared in a number of books by other writers as well as numerous film, television, stage play, and comic book adaptations. Five authorized sequels were written in the 1970s by the celebrated mystery writing team of Boileau-Narcejac.

Persona 5
The main Persona of the protagonist in Persona 5 is named Arsène, after this thief. Fitting because the main protagonists in the game are Phantom Thieves themselves. His third-tier Persona in Royal is named Raoul, a common alias used by Lupin, and also his middle name. 'Raoul' is also implied to be the thief's true first name in the story The Queen's Necklace.
The café the protagonist stays in for the year is named LeBlanc, after the author, Maurice Leblanc.

The Great Ace Attorney Duology actually features Sherlock Holmes as a major character. However, to avoid any legal issues with the Doyle Estate for the English release, the localizers renamed him as Herlock Sholmes, after the Captain Ersatz version Maurice Leblanc made for Arsène Lupin.
