Does it get better?
So far, I've reached Chapter 6: The Yakuza Way, and everything feels like a chore.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't get it, why is this game considered so good?

Commandos 2 is a hardcore tactical stealth strategy game about a group of soldiers with each of them offering a specialty in infiltrating enemy camps.

The game takes place during World War 2, the player takes the role of an elite group of commanders, and each level you are presented with a challenge to overcome, the challenge here is not like Call of Duty where you need to kill the enemy to win, but instead it asks the player to think and act creatively and tactically to get past obstructs, infiltrate, steal objects, assassinate targets, overload machines, free hostage.

You can however play as you want, if you think you can take the entire troops of your enemies you are free to try, its harder but its possible to do with proper positioning and tactics, but the more fun route is sneaking, using tools and other means to get through, the game is hard and doesnt pull back, you have to play good to win, and the level design is superb and offers multiple ways to advance.

You can shoot, bait enemies and then knock them out, hide their body, take their suit and send a spy, you can control enemy vision to your advantage, you can put sleeping pills to make enemies fall asleep, you can drink beer, throw knives, throw bombs, ride vehicles, there's a ton of possible ways to play your game and its incredibly entertaining. Shadow Tactics tried to revive this genre with a decent game but fell short in this aspect where it had very little gameplay tools to keep it engaging.

And i have to give credit for the soundtrack because its fantastic, its still a blast to hear till this day, the tracks are the best WW2 tracks i have ever heard.

The game has isometric view where you can rotate and use the camera to view multiple ways throughout a building and navigating is smooth and fluid.

Commandos 2 is definitely one of the best games of its genre and a masterwork of Pyro and Eidos, its a shame we dont see these types of games done anymore.

SOMA is an incredible game, its a well written horror game that is thought provoking and keeps you questioning along the way, the atmosphere of the game is strong and the level design is superb.
Unlike Silent Hill 2, SOMA circles around the issues and in return the result is a better game, the combat is reduced to small stealth encounters and the main focus of the player is on the atmosphere, the plot and the journey itself.
Soma is not scary in the literal sense of jumpscares or chase sequences but instead it makes the player feel lost, confused and utterly mindfucked, just like Silent Hill 2 it uses its storytelling, visual cues and symbolism to absorb you into its atmosphere but what is done better here is how it ditches tedious combat and backtracking in favor of telling a more streamlined and coherent narrative and gaming experience.

It wants to tell you its story and it focuses on doing that, rather than wasting your time with tedious easy combat encounters and terrible boss fights.
Instead it gives you choices but doesnt tell you the consequences for that it leaves the morality of the choice for you to decide.

Hearing voice-overs of dead characters and knowing how it felt the moment they died was disturbing, its incredibly well told because it doesnt detract from the atmosphere and keeps you within the "game".
The ending of SOMA left me utterly destroyed as i kept thinking about it for weeks to come, it also managed to make me ask and discuss ideas present within the game.

SOMA is the best story driven horror game i have played, and just for personal preference it doesnt get the highest scores but its a must play horror excellence.
