2021

Incredible art direction. Stuff I liked:
- the main city's big, clear light bulbs
- high noon light filtered through rough fabric, scaffolding, and leaves
- hot desert wind at dusk
- the way that the dust kicks up and arcs over you as you slide down a dune when travelling with the wind
- the glow of the moon overlapping linework
- gradients of pale atmosphere joining background elements together
- choosing glider engines based on sound
- finding a glider setup that doesn't bonk on the ground after a jump
- countless mysterious, grand pieces of architecture in the distance that hold up upon closer inspection
- cool clothes that don't have stat modifiers
- good fishing minigame made better by the easy setting
- the chunky run animation
- the fire particles run inconsistently but are, occasionally, the best I've ever seen in a game

Yes the game runs inconsistently, but so what? Just look at it.

I imagine the Zelda team was weeping with envy as they toiled away on TotK. I wouldn't be surprised if their next project looked a lot like this.

got stuck pretty early in this one, unfortunately. The opening scene will probably hit hard if you have recently had a baby? The environments are beautifully constructed, in that they look like a perfect recreations of nice concept paintings. But they are frequently hard to read spatially, and occasionally quite large and open, which is nice if you know what to do, but kind of awful for poor little lost me. Wasn't really in the mood for this kind of thing idk

2022

Couldn't figure out the first major puzzle. Kind of astonishing to look at though.

Put it down during the tutorial, feeling worn out by how extra absolutely everything is. I might pick it up again. Lots of cussing and ultraviolence and jokes. yawn.

A stone cold masterpiece. probably my favorite of the three, though I replay it and Ico like every other year. It just gets better and better. (spoilers) the bit at the end where trico brings the boy back to the village makes me cry every time. take that ebert!

oof, the switch port of this. There's some absolutely, fantastically charming inventions in this thing, but the performance issues wore me down after half an hour.

likely the best weekend goof-off jam game-turned-complete work of art

this is what you want folks. wonderfully confident presentation, and so many more personal details than it at first seems. an autobio katamari pack-a-thon. what could be better
