I wish I liked it more than I did. The customisation was great. But more so than any Dragon Quest game I just got my head down and churned through it. I felt no incentive to carry on past the credits. I was just glad to be done with it, but I really couldn't tell you why that was.

2022

I like how it starts out feeling like one thing, but by the end feels like a completely different game. Had a great time with it.

Starts good, but some of the required actions become some esoteric that it feels impossible without a guide. And whichever sadist decided to put so many monsters with insta-death spells before the final save and boss wants their head looking at.

Played with analogue stick sword control.

Takes a while to get going, and the latter stages of the game get a little repetitive. But when Tmthe game is good and you're navigating dungeon-esque overworlds leading to actual fun and well designed dungeons it's a delight.

Just as fun the second time round. I just find this game an absolute joy.

The only mainline game I didn't play on release. Far too hand holdy. Could have been good, but just constantly walking from checkpoint to checkpoint with a million cut scenes really hurt my immersion.

You can't go wrong with classic dungeon based Zelda can you. I appreciated the game making full use of the 3D too. Renting items was a nice idea too, I like that level of choice as an ideal middle point between classic Zelda and the modern BOTW and TOTK complete freedom.

My favourite of the trilogy, and the only one I felt the urge to replay.

Picked up digitally in the sale recently. Just as fun as I remember it being.

A little underwhelmed so far given the reputation. The story and characters are fine, and once you get into a dungeon it's good. But the overworld just does nothing for me, just feels like this big expansive load of nothing. Much preferred VII's more condensed areas.

20 or so hours in though so plenty of time for it to win me over yet.

Exploration is fun, but endless cut scenes really hurt the pacing. Definitely a slow burn, but the further I got the more and more into I found myself, to the point I considered 100% the journal.

It's a really cool mix of exploration and collectibles, with some of the Dana sections serving like Zelda sequel dungeons, with a really cool class switching system.

Got the medium ending but by chance saved before the point of no return so went back to get the best ending.
