Raein reviewed Avenging Spirit
A decent action platformer. The possession mechanic is a neat way to let you play as many different characters which keeps the game moving along despite the otherwise generic gameplay.

Raein reviewed Atomic Punk
Confusing naming conventions aside, this was the best version of the original Bomberman to have come out.

Raein reviewed Alpha Mission II
Certainly an improvement over the first game, but you would hope that would be the case six years after the first game's release. Visuals and sound design are both improved, as are the boss fights and the armor system gives it enough novelty to offset the repetitive levels at least somewhat.

Raein reviewed After Burner III
Doesn't play or feel like the first two games due to some convoluted porting of a different game getting the After Burner name, but that's really no excuse for this game to play worse than its predecessors that released several years earlier.

Raein reviewed 64th Street: A Detective Story
A shoddy, uninspired brawler with some decent visual detail and animations, but little in the way of good gameplay.

Raein reviewed Super Mario World
Nintendo's streak with the original Super Mario games is just stupefying. Following up on the absolutely fantastic Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World entered the 16-bit era with guns blazing. An utter tour de force of level design, visuals, music, and sound design come together to create the greatest platformer to have released by 1990 and still one of the best of all time. I can't heap enough superlatives on this game. It took that ability to constantly reinvent which Nintendo had mastered in the previous games and just spit out level after level of engrossing gameplay.

Raein reviewed F-Zero
Fantastic use of the Mode 7 visuals to really build a sense of speed, though I think the background detail suffered as a result. The controls are easy to pick up but require effort to master, and the tracks themselves have different kinds of hazards to contend with. The soundtrack here is one of the best to have come out in any video game released by 1990 and Mute City is an eternal banger.
