I was on the fence for a long time about Rimworld. There's other games in this formula, stuff like Dwarf Fortress and Prison Architect come to mind-I waited until a steam sale to pick this up and kind of wish I'd played it sooner.

Rimworld is a spectacular kind of Sim, the one where you sit and fiend and tell yourself "one more hour" and suddenly it's six AM and your eyes hurt. Trying to keep your pawns alive is a daunting task and the fact that they can have belligerent little personalities makes it both charming and frustrating in turns. (never accept a Pyromaniac pawn into your colony. Never. That way lies agony)

The skill trees, the leveling-up of your characters in your colony, the way you interact with outside travelers and hazards, all make for addictive gameplay. The music is fantastic, but I wish there was more of it. The ability to add mods ensures you have plenty to do and tweak, and the fact that you can set the obstacles into any challenge level you want can make for an extremely chill experience. Or not. That's up to you!

I only wish the game was a little prettier as far as the graphics style is concerned, with your people being little Weebles and everything else being just as simplistic.. It's look is probably not for everyone, but if you don't judge a game by its cover, you'll find yourself satisfied by a game that has you spinning more and more plates until the inevitable and hilarious catastrophes that will befall your colony.

Also you can make drugs and eat people.

How do I even explain the experience of HM: Light of Hope?

Imagine a beloved childhood pet, long dead, and some necromancer put the corpse on a puppet-stick and attempted to pantomime normal behavior in a shallow, fruitless attempt at winning your favor. It stinks and it's collecting flies. It's terrible and upsetting to look upon.

The basic notes are there. There's a harvest goddess and some sprites. You're get an abandoned farm to clean up, the usual. But it's a heartless and hideous imitation of a real game, lacking any soul or any attempt at effort. Even for a port of mobile game, it looks terrible! There's good mobile games! And for the switch, this is extra rank.

Play Stardew Valley, play any of the Story of Seasons games, play Rune Factory, even play some Kairosoft Sims on your phone. But never, ever play HM: Light of Hope. There is no hope here.

I got a VR headset this year and picked this up sort of at random, and become instantly hooked. Add mods for custom levels and a calorie tracker and this has become my favorite way to keep in shape. Make sure you have a lot of space to play in for this one!

Catchy soundtrack, fast and inventive combat, great storyline.. one of the very few games I've ever bothered to 100%. Do not play the switch port, go back to the DS and play this immediately.

Wonderful soundtrack and voice acting, beautifully animated, and sometimes a touch difficult. This was one of those steam sale buys that I was pleasantly surprised to play.

God's own video game, the classic among classics, the king of kings
