I wish this game would run better because it does a lot of cool shit and is probably the best actual pokemon game in a long time; it just is hard to appreciate it when half the time the cool shit is happening at 15 FPS.

Absolutely love the ending though, I would have never expected a pokemon story to be like that

Really huge leaps forward for the series, had a lot of great new mechanics and really stepped up the presentation. Wish the controls actually used the joysticks but otherwise this was great

Really good foundation for a game, just has a lot of things that rubbed me the wrong way like bad checkpoints, ammo/ammo crates not respawning upon death, and having to stop completely to select a different weapon. Otherwise it was pretty fun and had a good character arc for Ratchet throughout it.

I really love how these games keep iterating on themselves, each one is a solid improvement over the last. The levels are more refined this time around, a lot of new objectives to do, they made arena actually really fun, and honestly the final boss of this game while extremely difficult is probably one of the best bosses I've seen in a fromsoft game? Man I was not expecting to like this game as much as I did but its so cool. Cannot wait to get to the PS2 armored core games next

Interesting setting with cool visuals and great music, wish the gameplay wasn't so repetitive and that the narrative didn't have us continue a genocide of a people for "the greater good" though.

Neat improvements over the first one, but mostly just the same game. Love the arena in concept but after rank 25 it just kinda feels like a slog. Hope they improve this in later games because the arena mode could easily become my favorite thing about these games if it gets better

Really fun, absolutely love playing and trying to get better. Just wish the mods I used to play music I like didn't break every update

This game is so janky and broken and and feels kinda bad to control except I fucking love it except for that platforming level at the end what the absolute fuck was that

Fun multiplayer game, best played with friends imo.

Really fascinating game with a lot of cool mechanics, not a big fan of the ending sequence being an insta death that makes you fight all 4 phases of the final boss again followed by the real ending being locked behind playing the entire game again. Really cool though other wise

This game is not as good as I remember. It is really setting the groundwork for the rest of the series but this one just does not feel super fun to play now. Some real bad bossfights in here also

5/10

This is the best PSX era style horror game made in general in my opinion, absolute master class of capturing the feeling of that era. I have so much I want to say about this game that I'll probably write out later

This game’s gameplay did not work super well in my opinion and just felt pretty boring trying to control the kaiju demons instead of just fighting as Bayo. How the hell did you make Kaiju boring??

The story was was ok at best for the series right up until the ending, which I was really not a fan of other than a one particular scene and the after credits thing being kind of interesting at least in concept but was handled really badly in execution.

Speaking of concepts, I like Viola in the sense that I like the role her type of character usually plays in the story but feel like she kinda got sidelined too hard in the last third of the game to reach her full potential as a character. On top of that the game goes out of its way to not let us take her seriously and it kind of sucks. That being said I am interested to see where they take her writing wise going forward if the series continues.

Also a lot of the other characters got treated really weirdly in a way I can only describe as them not being their characters; but being a specific role instead. Luka isn’t Luka, he’s the love interested destined to find Bayo in any universe. Jeanne isn’t Jeanne she’s just a super spy needing to infiltrate a base and find a scientist. Bayonetta isn’t Bayonetta she’s just a stock action movie protagonist with an unfightable passion for the love interest. These aren’t the characters I likes its just put into a situation and not acting like how they’ve been portrayed for the past two games.

Also I only ran into major slowdown once in my playthrough as far as I remember. Game ran a lot better than I was lead to believe but when it slowed down it REALLY slowed down. Game looked really poor visually though imo.

Overall I have come back to this review after sitting on it for awhile and I don’t like this game very much I think. It doesn't ruin the franchise like some people say it does but it was just a huge misstep in how to do several of the story beats/themes it tried to do and a bad direction to take the gameplay. There was probably a great game in here at some point; but it sure isn’t the one we got.

Despite all its flaws I still love this game. Replaying it made see a lot more cracks in its design but somehow those cracks kinda mesh with the design in a way that still makes this really memorable and enjoyable

First pokemon game I ever played, still love this game to death. It does really show its age though in some places like the physical/special split not being a thing. And I hate to say it but the last third of this game being 90% water routes kinda sucks for trying to grind up certain members of your team.

All in all though i still adore this game, the pokemon it brought into the series, and the region as a whole. Just a bit hard to go from having played a lot more modern games to this.
