a mostly middle of the road yakuza/like a dragon entry (which is still REALLY GOOD mind you which just goes to show how high the peaks that this series of games manages to hit are) but that last chapter is one of the strongest parts of the entire series.
that scene where kiryu is given the tablet & see's the kids from the orphanage all grown up at his grave through a spy cam made me have one of the hardest cries i've ever had playing not just this series but videogames in general.

a game that perfectly captures the feeling of being stuck in life & letting possible futures with others pass you by while trying to figure things out for yourself. this dilema of 'is this where i wanna be or do i make the trail of what ifs behind me longer to see if the best path foward is the one i've yet to actually discover?' all done through chill as hell table top gameplay along with the most immaculate vibes you can think of.
gameplay wise this is disco elysium-esque as in it's a non-combat table top rpg but with a bit more of an emphasis on the survival/financial stability mechanics (it's not overbearing to the point of frustration so don't let that put you off if that sort of thing usually does). my favourite thing about this game is it's free flow narrative structure...if you don't know what i mean by this it's when the core of the experience is the main character(s) playing a part in bite sized stories they come across in the world while dealing with their own life circumstances & all those stories compile on one another to gradually build up your investment so that when major story events do occur your HOOKED. you maybe more familiar with this in another medium being tv...shows like cowboy bebop or futurama for example...just imagine the template of those kind of shows but in videogame form where the episodes are instead questlines you can do simultaniously. personally? huge sucker for that stuff.
speaking of tv. this game has an episodic layout which isn't a new thing in games but this does it in a unique way i've never seen before. almost every major questline has it's own end credits & depending on your choices...any of these questlines can be the finale to the story or just another episode in a bigger one. it's really hard to explain it futher than that but if you re-read the 1st paragraph of my explantion of the feeling this game evoked in me & link it together with what i've just said...i feel you should have an idea of how it works. you spend your time hanging with others & lets just say there are times where some of these ppl you hang out with want to leave to go somewhere else...you might like these ppl & want to be with them but what about the other guys you like that are staying? the quests you haven't finished up on? the areas of the map you haven't even been to or discovered yet? are you gonna leave your curiousity of what else there is to see in the world behind or you gonna say farewell to these ppl you spent time getting to know for what most likely will be forever? geniunely had one of the hardest choices i've ever been hit with in one of these.
only 'flaw' i'd say this has is that the choice of what type of android/sleeper you want to be has such little consequence that it feels pointless...all it does is give you -1 on a stat which you can upgrade quickly & just end up being good at everything no matter what but it's such a nothing issue that doesn't effect your enjoyment at all so it doesn't bothers me at all. also just a heads up...if you want to see everything the game has...don't start the last of the 3 dlc episodes that have been intergrated into the game without you needing to download them...save it for last...it's safe to do the first 2 tho.

i was originally gonna log this when i played & beat the single player but yeah it's gonna be a while before i even touch that.
had it since a few days after it's launch & i've put like 35 hours into online (ik not the most hardcore fighting game player) & yeah it's the 2nd best fighting game ever after 3rd strike.
