Super Robot Wars MX Portable is the PSP port of SRW MX on the PS2, to get one thing out of the way of the Portable vs PS2 version. The Portable version of MX is the complete opposite of SRW AP, It's a very easy game that suffers from HP sponges of fights. For example, if you started with the real robot route, The Dragonar forces have a higher hp than they did in the original PS2 version which was the usual size for real robot-based units. This becomes a problem with some of the fights as the balance can get really messy early on in the game but not an active issue by the end game. Outside of that, MXP is practically the same as the original with nothing new added and being on the PSP which is a comfy experience.

Now on to the real beef of the game, the story of the game will mainly involve Dendoh, Zeorymer (whose story is expanded more so throughout the game unlike said OVA), Nadesico, Grendizer, Dragonar, Evangelion, Raideen, (Post-plot) G-Gundam and RahXephon. Minor story inclusion being Getter Robo, (Post-plot) Daimos, the Mazingers (for supporting Grendizer) and the (Post-plots) UC-Gundams. The story is about Hugo Medio and Aqua Centrum who become entangled in dealing with a hijacking of the Tsentr Project which then leads to them being involved with the licensed series cast to also deal with their threats. The plot for this SRW is a real treat as it uses certain aspects of each series to involve their plots together such as how Raideen is connected to RahXephon, how RahXephon's conspiracy as well connects to the secrets behind Evangelion and Zeorymer's plot being connected to the events of Evangelion. There are also the fun aspects of the crossover like Shinji and Ayato being kinda bros, Kazuya and Domon being mentor figures to Ginga and Hokuto (Even being able to fight Daimos once as a test!) and my favourite part being Rom Stoll's presence saving the day. This is an SRW plot you don't wanna miss if you enjoy any of the series that play a role (not this time UC Gundam fans).

Now the music is also amazing, this is one of the weirder OSTs in the franchise as they don't use the ops for some of the super robots like Mazinger, Getter and Raideen. Though the tracks they use are still great, my personal favourites were "Awaken, Zeorymer", "God and Devil", "Hemisphere" and so much more I can list. The OGs tracks as well are solid works that thankfully sound just as good as they do in the 2nd OGs and beyond release. The main theme itself, Victory by Jam Project, is one of my top 3 Jam Project tracks and the version they use in-game is certainly a contender for a great final battle track. Overall a solid OST for this period.

The gameplay itself is still the classic SRW system, the gameplay uses the support or defence system which you have to put your units next to each other to activate. I could never figure out how to do 4 allies with each other like in the trailers but the system is a good one that may not be the squad system in Alpha but it's still a goodie nonetheless. The difficulty tho does suffer given the original MX was too easy that really any unit can do good, with the hp sponges in this game it becomes more artificially difficult which is one of my personal gripes of the port.

Overall Super Robot Wars MX Portable like the original MX on PS2 is a game worthy to play if you enjoy the SRW games, I'd recommend it a ton and especially for those who want to see certain series that barely get any attention like Rahxephon, Zeorymer and Dendoh.
