4 out of 5 stars for the occult classic might shock some people but this is MY review if anything in the bad and good is under explained this will go into further detail later in the specifics part and it will be segmented as so
The Bad
The Good
Specifics ( This will contain spoilers including names, progression and lore)

The Bad
Beginning with the bad, most of the games bosses are either extremely mediocre, bad or good ignoring the DLC for now there is one boss that stands out from the good ones but apart from it the games bosses aren't great. The bosses aren't mechanically interesting (not all but most) but instead include a terrible gimmick that doesn't make the boss any better instead doing the opposite making it dreadfully bad .The worst of this is accentuated in the second half where fromsoft ran out of time for the game leading to a mediocre and at times horrible second half. All but 1 of the areas in the latter half range from horrible to mediocre where you can tell which parts were rushed leading you to question whether you're playing the same game

The Good
The first half is where this games love shines the most because of the amazing world that from soft have created that interconnects at almost every point and each area was clearly given thought to how it connects with the rest of the world and its this world that allows for the amazing shortcuts connecting the amazingly thought out world. Another amazing aspect of this game is the sturdy and methodic combat system. You are given a simple and extremely methodical combat system your arsenal include a light attack, heavy attack, block, parry and finally but not least the coveted dodge roll giving you immunity frames where enemies are unable to harm you which will be your main source of dodging attacks this combat system is simple yet effective. The combat is fast enough that it feels responsive but slow enough that each of your actions have weight and need thought behind them and it's this perfect match deciding what to do knowing your speed and slowly seeing the opportunities for attacking in fights and boss fights alike. Something else this game would be incomplete without is the Soundtrack which only enhances the experience whether you're fighting a vicious demon, taking a rest or deciding your next move but Dark souls shies from music during your adventure excluding fights and special environmental occasions to reinforce the lore that you are travelling a desolate and fading. It decides this decision well because then the inclusion of music makes the interaction all the more epic, enchanting or terrifying and unlike other games dark souls refuses to implement even an ambiance track allowing you to hear the true world and what's actually happening. These games would not be at the status they are without one more key but easily overlooked feature the lore. The entire world of dark souls is hidden expressing its tidbits of lore through items found throughout Lordran. This games lore is best described as an iceberg because you can understand the general gist of what is happening and what happened but for those who are expressly concerned with the details they may look under the surface and find the rest but it is totally acceptable to stay above the surface but the rest is there.
