SLAPONTOAST'S TOP TEN 2022

Hello, and welcome to my very late list! 2022 was so hectic and busy that it wound up bleeding into 2023, to be a little blunt about it, so I apologize for not publishing this sooner... I admittedly didn't play as much as I usually do (if anything, I became more about cinema that year than gaming), but that made whatever I did play feel that much more special and significant.

To see what other games I played this year, check this list out, otherwise, let's begin from the very top:

Peak SlapCore Gaming! Extremely indulgent in everything I love about the early 00's aesthetically and just brimming with an infectiously bizarre personality on all fronts, I cannot fathom anyone else having as much fun as I did with this during the middle of the year. I still urge everyone to play it, however, because more people need to see just how strange and off-kilter it is at all times! Adults, they will never know...
A heartrending game that makes the artist in me cry tears of joy and empathy. Deeply, massively flawed in that it puts so much emphasis on an incomplete, nonsensical narrative, but I'm willing to argue that because everything around it shines so brightly in an attempt to justify it, it was well worth the trip aboard. The hardest game on this list to recommend, but one I strongly cherish nonetheless.
Saturnheads were completely right, this game's a complete masterpiece, deserving to be remembered as a defining title of the 90s alongside it's contemporaries (rather than the expensive console exclusive most people bemoan these days). Of all the games on this list, THIS is the game you should play as soon as humanly possible.
The best search action game I've ever played and I don't even need to think otherwise. Does so much within 6-8 hours that it's embarrassing to think the "best" in the genre can just carelessly piss away 20+. The PERFECT Halloween game!

Joyful, wonderful movement from Nifflas, the master of simple pleasures. Might have to visit Denmark someday...
Genuinely didn't expect this to become my favourite Sonic game, but with those hyper saturated graphics? That extremely playful and open ended attitude to level design and gameplay structure? That pitch perfect (JP) soundtrack? How could it not be!?
The absolute best DLC a game could ever ask for, and nothing short of mesmerizing as a massive fan of animation in general. How on EARTH do you even plan some of these sequences on a visual scale??
Fuckin' love Kirby dude, and this is just as good as you'd hope a 3D one'd be. The boss battles and bullet time dodge in this completely puts PlatinumGames to shame, like holy shit... HAL Labs, I kneel!
Unique, surprising and masterfully done, even nearly 30 years on from its release. A great game to go in blind, as you'll certainly have your eyes widened by a truly cinematic vision...
Not much to say about this one, it's just a real nice, no-fuss collection of Capcom's most beautiful and entertaining arcade games. Lord Raptor is so fucking cool, makes me proud to be Australian! :')
