HUGE amount of content for the money and as long as you know going into it that you are in it for the long haul and treat it as such, I think it's very enjoyable, definitely a game to be played in small bursts over a long period rather than trying to grind it out in a few weeks.

I loved all the little nods to Norse and English folklore and popular culture in the side quests, the detail and historical references of all the locations were fascinating and the sheer scale of the open world was something to behold!

That said, having played other Assassin's Creed games, it's definitely very light on the traditional AC gameplay and whilst I enjoyed playing as Eivor, I found the conclusion of the story very disappointing and was expecting more of a send off for a character that I'd spent so many hours with, even the additional tacked on content released later didn't do Eivor justice.

As an English person with Viking heritage and a massive history nerd, I may be biased but I really had a good time with this game and most of the additional content. The Forgotten Saga DLC sucked though, not a fan of rogue-lites or the continuation of the Eivor/Odin weirdness which I was not a fan of in the main story either.

Only got this for the trophies as it was pennies in the sale and for the meme. Five minutes staring a cat's rear end was five minutes too long...

Played this originally on the PS1 years ago and loved it at the time. Still enjoyed the game immensely but a few niggles:
- Some elements of the story have not aged well, the handling of Shana and her interactions with Lavitz in particular!
- Random battles in later parts of the game started to grate on my nerves
- Impossible to complete some of the special moves, even when abusing the PS5 rewind function
Overall a great trip down memory lane for me but but may not have appeal to those used to playing more modern RPG's.

+ A little gem of a stealth game with a gorgeous world and character design, AI a bit off in places but the game more than makes up for that with it's charm
- Only knocked off a star as game crashed on the final level and corrupted my save file meaning I had to replay it again from scratch to achieve the platinum trophy. Would recommend backing up your save just in case.

2023

+ Beautiful world to explore with cute and colourful graphics, great music and the spirit powers were a lot of fun
+ Story was well paced, if a little predictable in places and took some surprisingly dark turns for a "cosy" game
- Good to see collectibles had a purpose but there were too many of them for my liking, the treasure maps in particular were very tedious
- Combat was a bit clunky

Pros:
+ short but sweet main story, enjoyed the interactions between the two main characters and got a bit tearful by the end
+ unique setting and enjoyed learning more about elements of Japanese culture featured in the game
+ interesting side quests
Cons:
- combat system very basic
- way too many collectibles - many hours required to pick up collectibles which became very tedious
- rogue-lite mode in Spiders Web DLC not fun at all...yet more collectibles which were RNG based to add further insult to injury!

Played this straight after finishing I Am Setsuna as wanted to complete both titles before they were removed from the PS+ Catalogue. Took 38 hours to platinum. This game is supposed to be the successor to I Am Setsuna so I am making a direct comparison.

I liked the music and felt the combat system was more enjoyable and had better explained mechanics than I Am Setsuna.

The art style was pleasant to look at but I preferred the aesthetic of I Am Setsuna.

I did not warm to the characters and was disappointed with the story. I enjoyed the story up until the first "ending" and if they had concluded the game there, I would have been very happy but instead they chose to drag the story out for many more hours and the plot became increasingly nonsensical....I ended up fast-forwarding through a lot of the cutscenes towards the end just to get the game completed as I was bored.

Cute and colourful graphics and fun gameplay loop for a short time....BUT it is broken, buggy, unfinished, the trophies are a massive grind and one is unobtainable. AVOID!
