racing game equivalent of a bullied kid in school

I have been plying SRB2Kart near the time it came out and have my own server (Becky House hiii) and have been observing whatever I can of Ring Racers secret Frankenstien’s lab development so I make this review from a place of passion and dissatisfaction I guess

I don’t know my exact hours but i’ve played basically as soon as I got up to now as i’m typing this so it has to be at least near or over 10 hours. Also no stars since I don’t think this is a game that can be rates by stars.

Its interesting to me. The game is so ambitious yet so aimless, so ready to give you accessibility options but also takes away options that were in the first game . This game is so so so so much but so valid at the same time.

There’s so many mechanics. You can drop down in the air now, you collect rings to go fast. if you have a ring item it can overcharge you and make you have a speed boost for awhile AND you use rings to go faster on slopes (I hate this but more on that later), new items like 200+ stages (including the bonus ones), a fucking spindash, and a tail whip that you can use when you have zero rings.

All of this sounds kinda cool right? Well actually the way they are implemented sucks so bad. Firstly, the drop. You think it’d useful because of V1 air time problem but holy fuck it has a bounce (and i tested you can literally bounce forever if you time it right) and the bounce does so much harm than good. Half the time I make the right choice and use it to land I bounce and if the stage has a lit or a part with no rails, I bounce off and have to wait to respawn. and its like LOL whats the point in that mechanic.

Speaking of useless mechanics lets talk about spin dashing and shortcuts because they go in tandem because they invented a new problem for themselves to solve because of the spindash. You hold down the. button and charge a spindash basically you know sonic shit. The only problem is that it halts your momentum and with a game all about that it is hard to justify using it. you typically use it for the starting linefor a start boost, which is now like sonic riders one except bad cause you can completely die during it and it last so long already so if some bullshit happens to you have fun waiting like 10-20 seconds of just not playing the game. because of the start line change, you NOW charge the spindash and let go at the right time for the boost which is kinda ok but the spindash also has no cancel so sometimes I fuck the timing up by a second and try to fix it and remember “oh yeah this propels me forward now” and i’m dead. I think a cancel and a little faster charging time is the true say to make it worse hell you lose rings anyways for holding it too long so lol.

An even more sorta useless mechanic is the tailspin which you can do when you have 0 rings. on paper sounds sick but this game is alll about those fucking rings. if you have less than 20 you just go slower than ofher people, if they hit you when you have 0 or negative rings you tumble and man all i’ll say about the tumbling is that it is the most annoying and boring thing to have to sit througj after seeing bullshit. now that I explained the extra stuff of the ring mechanics you understand why this move kinda sucks. I feeel like you should be able to use it anytime for like a penalty of 2 rings, but because of the ring button making you faster so you can go on slope and they’re both mapped to one button, you have to WASTE. all of your rings, let go of the button, and THEN you can do it and it can like deflect jawz and stuff, but its so must risk for very specific situation it might as well not be in the damn game.

And I haven’t even talked about the stage bloat really or how the stages are kinda either under designed or overly design (play green hills in v1 and then play it in ring racers lol). I haven’t talked about how they lock online and even addons through a kirby air ride smash checklist box, hell they even make you search for colors in the damn game you don’t even get the right to have all the fucking colors. You have to play like so many hours just to be able to play as some of the characters fuck you have to do mystic melody sonic adventure 2 shrines to get some of these characters its just ridiculous I feel it feels like the devs heard people talking shit about the former single player and got so mad they fucking put too much single player i can’t believe i’m saying that man.

I haven’t even mentioned the fucking long patronizing tutorials that does not teach you any cool new mechanics or how the items work but they teach you how to fucking drift and like yeah thats nice for new comers (if this game was actually beginner friendly) but like the fact you have to do a race and shit just to skip it no button is ridiculous.

The game is ridiculous it feels like you have to play it in a specific ways or the devs will spit on you basically in way. It just feels spiteful in a way I don’t know maybe if the game updates and mod support flourishes it will be fine but the stages are overly designed, items feel like they got overly nerfed or they’re way way way too good, you get hit snd tumble so often it just kills your whole momentum for the race, and i’m tired and kinda want to make an actual video for this so i’m gonna end the review here for now but fuck. I’m just decently disappointed because from what I played there is a fun good game in this genuinely I just wish it didn’t come with a overly bloated and daunting bad game.

OK, I got to play the game, I played two cups and a half. Well, in reality it was the first cup and the 2nd cup up, up until the last track…

VERRRDICT!

Alright girls n' boys, I'm… not… gonna sugarcoat it. This game blows, like, not in a super good way or super bad way, it still has me stirred but, now having played it, I may be a bit less stirred. I like how the initial setup looks like, but the tutorial is STILL absurdly long, 45 minutes minimum, how? No idea, but it's there. It can be skipped with the "Let's see you do it, hotshot"-type race and I find that annoying, or thru an obscure code, like Online and Addons. And I still find the idea of locking Time Trials, a kart-racing essential, downright abysmal!

As for the REAL game? It's a mess. A sort of lovable mess, I can't really hate it, but it's maddening, to a degree. I think the problem is that there's too much going on in a race.

You've got the track and your opponents to take care of, you've got the roulettes to take care of, you've got THE ENVIRONMENTAL DANGERS to take care of… putting it midly?, It's sensory overload. And there's too many mechanics to boot, same for the controls; too many buttons… for a Kart racer. A type of game where you can just— get up and go race at a few clicks.

And then there's the race AI too, who is very much happy to rubberband at a moment's notice and get spiteful if you as much as win 2 races in first, which is CRAZY and almost feels like some of your wins are unwarranted and come down to pure luck. So at times, the game can feel downright punishing if you do the slight miscalculation of drifting at the wrong angle.

The unlock system is another whole can of beans; did you know the rewards in the challenge grid, while "set", are truly random? Your neighbour's build might have Metal Knuckles on the top row, but yours may have a Chaos Drive Follower on the top row, so there's no clear "unlock path" which can lead to some truly "Guide Dang It" moments. And the requirements get crazier as you go on, too! An unlock chain can go on for MILES across several Unlocks. It reminds me a bit of those convoluted urban legends of yore, and that's fine! I find that funny too, but it becomes unfunny at some point.

All in all, this gane is NOT for everyone, and it shows. It can feel beginner-unfriendly, it can be messy and some tracks can be overdecorated, racing is a test of your attention span at times and worst? It may feel like the game is conspiring against you. The tutorial could benefit from being divided into separate "beginner" and "advanced" tutorials, and a less aggresive way to skip it without the code could help too. The game could greatly benefit from Time Trials being unlocked from the start so people can ease in to the wild variety of tracks, and the AI could ESPECIALLY take a chill pill or two. I'm pretty sure there are more flaws with the tutorial asides "ough Tutorial long", but we'd be here forever.

Overall, this game definitively exists. And if you like it, that's fine, and totally awesome! But for me? Damn, it sure hits different. I'm just hoping it gets some QoL updates down the line..

Highly recommend for how in depth the settings are. There’s even a switch that lets me cause everyone who has ever opposed me to die of a heart attack.

There are a lot of hilarious Fall Guys memes floating around the internet. Here's a look at 10 of our absolute favorites.

A Fall Guy waving at the player and a picture of Fry from Futrama as part of a Fall Guys meme
When Fall Guys was released, it was free for players with PlayStation+. It quickly became popular, having crossovers with popular video games and gaining notoriety with trophy hunters for having one of the hardest trophies. As more time went on and as more players started playing, fans started to have some fun outside of the game.

This Tweet comes from @simpsonsvgames and is sure to be relatable to players trying to fit through doors. As the Tweet shows, no one can fit through the doorway, blocking it up. This is sure to be a common sight as players race to the end of Door Dash.

The GIF also sums it up perfectly for the round -- the players are able to go around. If a doorway isn't stopped up with players, is it really a game of Fall Guys?

The Pain Of Falling
This comes from the Fall Guy's official Twitter account, @FallGuysGame. It shows a player on Slime Climb, slipping off the balance beams into the slime. Of course, this eliminates the player from the game entirely.

The dad's face is probably also the same the player would make. If the player is in a party with friends, they are sure to be asked 'Did you make it passed the slime?'

A Similar Look
This meme comes from the Instagram user @fallguysxamongus and shows the similarity between Fall Guys and Among Us. There is also a 'competition' between the two games, with the two games having similar-looking characters.

As shown in the picture, Fall Guys have arms while Among Us characters do not. It also mix and matches the two characters, showing how similar the two characters actually are.

A Traitor Among Us
This is another meme joking about how Fall Guys and Among Us are similar in styles. It was created by @ttonyesp on Twitter and is sure to make anyone who is a fan of both games laugh.

It has a Fall Guy blend in and get an actual Among Us character ejected into space. Or as the official Twitter might say, the red spaceman was yeeted into space.

An Enemy Was Gained
Roll Out can be stressful on its own, but having another player grab you adds to the stress. As the meme says, anyone who does this will become an instant enemy. The meme comes from @fgdailymemes on Instagram, but was created by u/darthservo on Reddit.

Being grabbed will cause the player to panic and try to escape from the other player's grasp. If the player does fall off, they are sure to yell out in anger as they have to quit the match.

The Cause Of Trust Issues
It is bad enough when the player is falling behind during a round, but it is even worse when there is a player waiting at the end. When the top right corner says only one player left, players are sure to wonder if the person at the finish line will run in at the last second. When they do, it is sure to cause some frustration.

This meme comes from @fallguyshouse on Instagram and is relatable to any player at the back of the line. When you make it to the end of the round, don't be that guy to wait around and mess players up.

Is this...?
This meme shows a friendship that ends with a player being eliminated. It is also a reference to another famous meme called 'Loss'. It was made by @gamerzoneit on Instagram.

Besides being a reference, it also shows how sad it can be when a member of the player's party is eliminated in a game. They can no longer play and instead must watch their friend as they complete whichever rounds are left.

A Fall Guy's Look
When a Twitter user asked the Fall Guys account if the characters look different under their costumes, the official account said they had not thought about it. One Twitter user, @blocboytogata, decided to take a creative approach and make what they believed the character looked like.

This discussion comes from the fact the player can customize the faceplate, making fans of the game ask if this meant the Fall Guy looked different underneath. Luckily enough, the official Twitter account responded to this picture and said this is 100%, not canon.

Game's Take Over
This meme jokes about how both Fall Guys and Among Us became popular in the last few months. Both games have characters that look like little jelly bean people, making it very appropriate. It comes from @illogical_insaan on Instagram.

Both games have become known on the internet in the last bits of 2020, and it looks like the games aren't about to go away.

Uneven Teams
While this problem has been fixed, it is nice to see the Fall Guys' Twitter can make a joke out of it. It refers to how a team game would be played even if there was an odd number of players. The finales for the game could be played with 13 players, confusing some players why these team games happened.

The team responded and got a fix out, but not before they made a meme relating to it. It is also entertaining to see, as most gaming companies do not make a meme relating to an issue they are having.

An amazing game because it killed Waluigi
A flawed game because it didn’t kill him permanently

I bought this game for one dollar. One day later, it appears the game got delisted.

All you need to do to win is have like 5 people backseat game

I opened up trending and gave a half star to one of the first games I saw
You may now laugh

Pros: ADHD heaven: the Game. It's creative gameplay, it's funny and stupid, it's visual variety, it's wonderful colorful characters, and it's an incredible novel concept of playing five second "micro-games" in succession one after another. It just works.

Initially, I couldn't wrap my head around what this game was when it was first announced... I thought... A minigame collection? Well, no, there are minigames, but that's not what this is. It's like... if video games were Flash Cards that test your gaming abilities, performance and reaction time, and keeping you on your toes, not knowing what five-second-game will come next. Well, there are multiple categories, though no game goes beyond the simple controls of d-pad and A button only, so you're never put in a place of too much confusion. There's also always a single prompt that appears when a microgame is introduced, and I feel it's just enough to suggest to the player what to do in the microgame. And these categories help separate the games into different modes so it's not too much unexpected in one place, and in WarioWare here, there are different characters that are keepers of these different gaming categories.

Firstly, Wario, the mascot who's used perfectly for this game and eventual franchise, as he matches the silliness and chaotic energy of the style of gameplay found here, even though it practically has nothing to do with the Wario games that've come before. But he's used great as a mascot here, and his likeness benefits the success of the product. And to differentiate him from his prior appearances, they've dressed him up in a wildly colorful biker outfit, and even given him a hog of his own to ride around town. Other characters are all brand new, and they're all fantastic too, yeah, all of them. Jimmy, the disco dancer, hosts sports themed games, Mona the fashionable ice cream shop worker hosts "weird" games, 9-Volt the nerdy kid hosts retro Nintendo themed games (which, was the huge draw for a Nintendo nerd like me), Kat and Ana host animal themed games, Orbulon hosts "thinking" games that take slightly longer than five seconds, Dribble & Spitz are a dog and cat duo and they host sci-fi games, and Dr. Crygor hosts "photo real" styled games, and then one final category is a Wario remix, where Wario is featured in new microgames that can fit snuggly into any of the above categories. It's a fun journey with a TON of variety, and little microgames that are so goofy and fun, that often you'll wish they were full-blown games all in their own right. And with these characters also comes great presentation, as each have their own little story intros and outros, as well as unique visual and audio storytelling, with some great music as well.

In addition to the main campaign, there's other modes where you can play each microgame for highscores, as they get faster and harder the more they loop. As well as "hard" and "thrilling" modes, as well as Boss Rush and such. Speeding things up, setting things to maximum difficulty, only giving you one life, etc. And then there's also unlockable minigames, separate from the microgames, little high score games like jump rope, skate boarding, and paper airplane, but also "multiplayer games" where one player uses the left side of the GBA and its L button, and another player uses the right side of the GBA and its R button, these minigames are frenetic and exciting, and a blast to play with a friend (Vs. Chiritorie and Vs. Dong Dong are favs of mine).

Cons: Some of the visuals can look rather janky, but I kinda chalk it up to charm, honestly, so much of this game is weird, and some moments that look off model, actually add to the quirkiness. Otherwise, I don't see any real issues here, some Microgames are more difficult than others, and sometimes you wish a prompt would clue you in more or less, but it's never to the point where you feel cheated, it works, and if they didn't throw you for a loop every now and then, it wouldn't have that chaotic energy that you want out of this game, which is a huge part of the fun factor!

What it means to me: Like stated above, when I first saw the announcement of this game, I didn't know what the heck I was looking at, thinking it was a minigame collection, but I remember seeing some of 9-Volt's NES games, like Zelda and Duck Hunt and such, and wanting to try this game out just for that... But... Once you try WarioWare, that's it, you're in, it was like no other game before it and especially if you're into highscore games, this one will keep you playing for a long long long long long time.

>tries to play killer 7
>its poop killer 7

somehow more boring than 2? Achievement of all time!

Going to be transparent and say this rating is unfair but I just can’t play musou games because they remind me of the hardest part of my day to day life: the knowledge that everyone is an idiot except for me

While a great throwback to the NES Era of video game, Final Fantasy simply fails to live up to its predecessor Stranger of Paradise, keeping in mind its shortcomings and lack of content this game should've been a DLC bonus for Stranger of Paradise rather than its own standalone title.

Final Fantasy is a total step down in everything, even the combat, and story which was greatly shocking to me as I found those aspects of the original to be phenomenal.
Gone are the complexities of the soul shield system, and in exchange, we have a watered-down job system with a tiring and exhausting turn-based combat system which is a complete insult to everything Stranger of Paradise was.

The story is a complete rehash of Stranger of Paradise with plot points removed, despite the fact this is a sequel which greatly upsets me as the story was one of the best aspects of the original game and a follow up had a lot of potential, yet the execs over at Square care not for artistic integrity but trying to make a quick buck cashing on a massively popular IP which makes it safe to assume that Stranger of Paradise was a lightning in a bottle that they will never be able to capture again.
