Despite on how unpolished this game is, Hellworld is a love letter to the classic platformers of the 90's with a fun story, quirky characters, charming presentation and creative gameplay as no level is the same as the next one.

It's a quick breeze, even with the faults but it's still a joy to go through from start to finish.

Definitely worth a look!

The best worst game of 2023.

The story is nonsense that doesn't know if it's trying to be serious or not.
The combat is functional yet clumsy, which isn't helped by the poor balancing and dumb AI
The presentation is all over the place and badly performed
and the mini-games are totally lifted from Like a Dragon/Yakuza series and done terribly.

It's pretty much a 2004 game that came out in 2023. (Like a HD Devil's Third, considering the devs behind this game did work on before leaving Valhalla.)

Cannot recommend this anymore than $20, especially considering it's length as I was about to beat it within about 6 hours but it's a good bad recommendation from me, even at the low score I've given it.

An extremely rough game, especially by today's standards but it's a game with a ton of promise that would eventually get more realized, polished and fleshed out as the sequels showed.

(Better play the remake for a much more refined experience)

(Played though the HD Collection on PS3)

Even with it's troubled development history aside, this game is just a dull follow up. The action is weak, Dante's character is completely absent and it's just not as fun or challenging as the first game. The next one is a whole lot better though, so just skip this one.

An absolute classic and pioneer of the character action game but playing it now, it really shows it's age, especially when compared to the successors (hence why it has a low rating).
