Tetsuya Takahashi: "i skimmed the abstract of like 5 different philosophy books and arthur c clarke novels and i'm here to just vomit all that back at you for 70 hours without saying anything meaningful about any of it"
Me: "sounds bad"
Tetsuya Takahashi: "i've also included kung-fu and robots"
Me: "sounds sick"
Yoko Taro: (furiously taking notes)

Sometimes the "punch you in the face with themes" philosophy is the best philosophy.
ain't here to incite conflict but i definitely found this mess of ideas profoundly meaningful as a teenager...! just putting that out there. i was probably the ideal target audience, though: suburban kid raised catholic who already liked star wars and evangelion searching for deeper cosmic significance. all that stuff about the wave existence (collective unconscious) spoke to me. it's true, it is a total mess of influences and references, though i just had to object a lil bit to that "nothing meaningful" part.
