Castlevania Symphony of the Night feels like a game that could have been released yesterday but was released in 1997.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night feels like a game released for PS1 but it was actually released just 5 years ago.

Less interesting power ups, worse music and not enjoyable combat paired with unfun difficulty spikes prevented me from reaching the end.
