a game of all time, i fear. it was literally seconds into the game that i remembered how much better the game feel is than any other remedy game prior. the tone is immaculate, the visuals are gorgeous, the ebb and flow of the combat is almost always engaging. my first time playing through either of the DLCs and was really struck by how effective they were at both of their jobs - when i was playing the foundation i was thinking about how i was supposed to be psyching myself up for alan wake 2 but was getting more excited for control 2, and then i played awe.... and i can't wait to dive in later this week. the foundation was a little dull gameplay wise but awe really hit all the notes i want, i found the third thing genuinely scary throughout.

beginning my remedy journey (not going as far back as max payne.... yet). a game that is extremely frustrating at times but fascinating almost always. i generally like the combat structure, but the balance needs to be pretty precise and there are a lot of times where it is not. didn't really dig the first dlc so cranked it down to easy for the second and that might have gone a bit far, but it was worth it to experience the cool dreamlike architecture without wanting to tear my hair out.

less frustrating than the worst parts of alan wake but has a lot less going for it. the combat is breezy and insubstantial, and the structure is interesting in theory but unsatisfying in practice. a fun little diversion after the first one though, i am interested in the changes to alan's character, and i think it's helpful in the ways that it clarifies some alan wake lore!

dunno what the general critical consensus is on this game but I almost never hear it mentioned in the same conversation as alan wake and control (unless it’s a conversation about whether it counts) and that’s a dang shame! the tv show portion is a little silly and underbaked but that’s the remedy touch tm and i think it’s a neat little time travel story that is mechanically a clear evolutionary step between alan wake and control. didn’t like the push and pull of the combat as much as i did control’s but when it sang it sang bayyybe. lance reddick acted circles around every other cast member in the show.

Pretty fun action RPG with some good Zelda-esque dungeons and cute character writing that overstays its welcome by the end.
