This review is for Oscar. I liked the game, okay? It was fun to play and the story wasn’t completely convoluted and/or full of dumb words like pulse l’cie and fal’cie which is something I can really get behind. The active time lore thing is super cool (other story-heavy video games please take note).

I was happy to see that the women in this one weren’t “big booby lol” like ff15 and I had some hope in the beginning but they still managed to fuck it up. I mean, cool, thanks for giving them clothes this time and I don’t mean to be GREEDY but please can you please just please figure out women? I will help you, devs. Just write the part for a man and then give the man a softer face and some tits (but they don’t have to be huge - keep them proportionate to her body. and make sure to keep her clothes on). Done.

Compared to more recent versions of Taiko no Tatsujin, this one is extremely barebones. I thought a newer release would have similar or more features, not less. Drum Session for PS4 has a super cool bingo card feature, Drum n’ Fun for Switch has party games (and may also have the bingo cards?). This one is just a list of songs, the end. If it weren't for gamepass, I definitely wouldn't have bothered.

i was hoping the aliens wouldn’t feel like zombies but they’re basically just zombies. they’re zombies, you guys.

Deathsmiles I & II get 5 stars no matter what as my favorite horizontal shmups (Deathsmiles II specifically), but this version doesn't. I think I've been spoiled by M2 Trigger and the amazing job they always do with their Cave releases. This one just kind of falls short. It's just a port of the 360 versions of the games from well over 10 years ago which is a bit disappointing considering I know it's possible to do so much more.

Cute idea, but feels bad, man. Also, what the fuck is in the bread?

This game makes me feel old. All I can think while racing through neighborhoods and on streets with cars that are not participating in the race is "well, this isn't very safe." I got a house for free for doing a sick stunt in my car for a movie, but the house is pretty big and it's on a large chunk of land. Thanks for the free house, but I'm not rich and famous yet. You gonna pay the property taxes every year too? See? Old.

Anyway this is my first Forza game and I downloaded it gamepass-style to play with a bro but it's taking forever to unlock multiplayer. In the meantime, I'm having a decent time dicking around and have won all my races (yay me) despite being distracted by weird old people brain.

Cute little game I was happy to be able to finish quickly.

The platforming was butts (bad butts, not good butts). I couldn't tell you how many times I tried to jump on one thing and either landed on something else or missed it completely - it was just a bit hard to tell where I was going to land sometimes. And if that wasn't bad enough, then the platforms were invisible, or they were orb-shaped, or the room was dark, or you know, whatever. If you're gonna have weird shit like that, the platforming has to be... good butts.

Otherwise, it was a good time. I enjoyed the puzzle-solving and the islands were interesting to explore. The side quests were fun to complete and there weren't so many that it was overwhelming. It's really a shame about the platforming because that kind of ruined a lot of the good experience for me heh

Well, I love rhythm games and Taiko No Tatsujin is no exception, especially since it is v cute and silly. I really like the Bingo cards as they encourage multiple plays of each song on more than one difficulty for reasons other than just beating my high score - having little goals to complete for each song makes it more exciting. And dressing up my little Don is more fun than I thought it would be.

I'm glad it's possible to play this one with a DS4 (or Dualsense on PS5 obv) as I don't think they sold the cool bundle here in the west and I'm an idiot who didn't import it. Sure do wish I had that drum though haha... ha.

I just beat the Bad Guy for the first time and I’m meant to immediately start over on the newly unlocked difficulty but I uhhhh… really don’t feel like doing that.

I appreciate that the levels are randomly generated but they aren’t quite different enough that I want to do them again so soon, especially since the only randomization is in the map layout. There are like 5 enemies in the entire game (excluding bosses/mini bosses, which also repeat) and each map has the same enemies every time. There’s just not enough variety to keep it from being boring after a while. I made it through one playthrough but more than one doesn't interest me at all. Maybe playing with friends would make it better. I only have a couple of those and I don’t want to risk losing them so I’ll never know.

One thing I really liked is that instead of picking a class and being locked into certain skills, the skills are drops that you find and equip. You start the game as a blank slate and are limited only to whatever drops. I think that’s a really cool way to do it and drops could be exciting but even the idea of finding new skills or even better versions of my favorite skills isn’t exciting enough to play more.

I just discovered this game at SGDQ and I am extremely bummed that I love it because I cannot bring myself to pay a subscription to play it. I don’t need it to be free, but I can’t pay $3 a month (or $48 a year). It’s just not a thing I do with games.

Otherwise, it’s super fun to be plopped in a random spot and then try to figure out where I am. I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to play multiple games in a row but I’ll probably go ahead check in for that free game every once in a while. I don’t consider myself very good at geography and I think this could be a great way to accidentally get better!

I’m probably going to rate and review this baby in the future but in the meantime, have a story:

I had a spinal tap yesterday. The procedure went well (thanks for asking) but last night my entire spine was super stiff and I was in ridiculous pain that wouldn’t allow me to fall asleep even though I was dead tired.

I had been playing the Disgaea 6 demo while laying in bed all day and I had a quest to complete 100 auto-battles. When I received the quest, I went “psh” because I’m not an auto-battle type of gal. I typically go “psh” or “pfff” at auto-battles. But I decided in a moment of desperation (as well as mild curiosity) to put the Switch where I could see it and let Zed and his crew go to town with auto-battle and auto-repeat while I watched. It turned out to be just the lullaby I needed and I fell asleep after they’d all gained a couple hundred levels.

Sooo, thank you, Disgaea 6. You now have a special place in my heart and I will never go “psh” at you again, even though I can already tell you aren’t as good as Disgaea 5.

Big oof.

I have a lot of patience when it comes to video games and I’m always willing to give a game a fair shot if it sounds like something I’d enjoy. I think I’m typically pretty lenient so I’m having trouble thinking of a single game I peaced out of faster than this one.

It’s bad with extra bad on the side. Looks bad (I’m not a graphics whore but this game is like… I don’t know how to explain it but kind of blurry or fuzzy, maybe?), feels bad, is bad. The imbalanced difficulty for solo play is apparently ridiculous so I tried to play with other people expecting that to at least be kind of fun even if the game was trash. It wasn’t.

It honestly feels like they were just counting on D&D fans to buy the game without question and I sincerely hope that didn’t happen to too many people because I can’t imagine how awful it would feel to love D&D and then play this. If they were at all hoping to get more people interested in D&D, I’m not sure they’ll be able to count that mission accomplished. Certainly not when it comes to me anyway!

This isn't so much a review as it is a note to myself: I need to stop trying to play this game. I don't enjoy it. I don't want to give up on Rune Factory in general and would like to give 5 a try when it releases, but holy shit I hope if I ever consider trying this one a third time I look it up here on Backloggd and remember that I do not like it.

Mushihimesama's surprise Switch drop was one of my favorite E3 announcements this year.

There's nothing extra added, it's just Mushihimesama. But it's an excellent port. It sounds great. It looks great, everything is so clear. I mean, you can really see how furry and gross some of these bugs are as you murder them. It's rad.

I love that it's so easy to play in tate mode with the Switch. It just feels better to play a vertical shmup when it takes up the whole screen. The Switch is perfect for this and I know there are plans to bring two more CAVE shooters to the console but I hope they consider even more.
