The Definitive* Ranking of Games**: 2017

* in my opinion
** that I've played since our simulation rebooted in 2020

Will be updated as I play more games from this year

Perhaps my second-favorite video game narrative ever written (outside of Disco Elysium). The way the writing explores the topic of mental illness and self-doubt is extremely relatable and deeply poignant. Cap that off with an excellent audiovisual experience, and you have a masterpiece

I love games that allow you to choose a playstyle. I love games that make that choice feel meaningful in the gameplay even more. Although the story is a little of a slow burn, it's hard to have more fun than sneaking and blasting your way through Talos 1.
The stunning presentation, wonderfully paced narrative, and clever puzzles make What Remains of Edith Finch a truly special experience. It's hard to find a better entry in the walking simulator genre.
