Excellent writing and a believable world with intriguing lore and just enough gameplay to keep everything fresh for the amount of story that they were aiming to tell, with enough roots and seeds to think beyond. It was a little heavy handed at times, but felt real in terms of it's weight of grief when it's especially pronounced. The contracts as a meta mechanic gave a real link as a symbol between tools of oppression in the story as it does in our world, and the juxtaposition of concepts that applaud or detract Oni from their violence and mission for justice felt weightier than a lot of similar games I've played. I hope to see more from this universe or at least these writers.
And it's got a little opossum village themed around bones! Loved them. And the individualistic speaking styles of the characters along with broader accents portrayed

Pretty environments, a decent aesthetic, but the game's story was a fucking drag to get through. Not much was interesting, and the ending invalidates the game preceding it. I was going in and getting excited at first, but finally it just died a bad death. I've since sworn off this dev's games, and judging by some other reviews I've encountered, for good reason
2024 edit: I will always remember this as one of my most hated games for how bad it felt despite mainly just being generic

I played this game in a single sitting the same way someone would eat an entire one-pound block of extra sharp cheddar cheese on their day off because they’re depressed: I knew that I shouldn’t do it, I knew that I wouldn’t even enjoy it in the moment, and I knew that I’d be paying for it later on, but I did it anyway
