Stampede
I just looked it up to check, but the black cow actually doesn’t move at all! I feel that might have messed me up even more suddenly having this giant horned-pixel fly at me. Who knows! I definitely got the calf wobbling leg idea from how the Atari had difficulties even making a straight diagonal line, so all the cows’ legs can look a bit jank because of it.

Stampede
When I was super young, I used to beg my mom to help me plug in the Atari specifically so I could play this and Keystone Kapers. I loved this game like nothing else (besides Keystone Kapers 🤪) because of how addicting its gameplay loop was. I loved the little details such as different colored cattle being more points than others, and I really loved the little (black?) calf that would RUN towards your character and completely mess up the rhythm you finally start to get down. I remember distinctly being able to see its legs wobble as it ran towards you, but that might have been part of my baby-brain imagination. I also loved how if you got too close to the cows, they’d get scared and quickly scamper towards the front. Stampede is always a game I plop in when I feel the mood to plug in that same Atari (now without Mom’s help!)

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
played 3 or 4 worlds of this. feels like a game that really just creates a lot of level ideas that feel kind of too loosely related to the core movement ideas and why they existed in the first place (better captured in dkc1/2). I certainly appreciate the effort but eh, not that compelling for me. the overworld exploration and npcs are cute though. also incredible art

Resident Evil
forgot to log this. played a few hours this year. I found it hard to get into (repeating stuff when you die... the slow menu transitions lol.. they have a certain charm but get pretty grating)
but I really admire the way it has such a b-movie feel to it, but also how each individual room/combat/weird puzzle idea feels like a little vignette of its own. Maybe I'll come back some day! Or just move on to RE2...
