Best plays of 2022

Most of these came out in 2022.

One of the best platformers I've ever played. I enjoyed every minute of it and got the top medals on every level without a single major frustration or annoyance, which for me is peak game design.
Incredible story, deep themes, impeccable writing, few flaws or missteps, the second best narrative game I've ever played after "Disco Elysium". I don't even like historical fiction and this had me deeply invested in rural peasants vying against catholic monks, just outstanding style and delivery (review to come).
This probably will be in my top games of every year for the rest of my life unless I happen to stop playing it that year. Every new champion continues to deliver on the promise of creating compelling new experiences within the genre, the feel of playing so many different champions in this game is something I can't find anywhere else (because I don't like fighting games).
This would be at the top of this list were it not held back by some sloppy and grindy side content. It's an amazing experience regardless, but that side content really cuts into the pacing and emotion of the last third of the game.
The goofy name and art style will trick you into thinking this isn't as good as it is, but this is just a damn enjoyable action game with great Metroidvania level design that just keeps delivering fun new combat mechanics as it goes.
A story that is so immersive that it made me feel like I was really inhabiting it for its duration. There's a lot that could be improved, but I'm really glad to have played it (more in my review).
People who dunk on "Overwatch 2" never liked "Overwatch" that much to begin with. It's as fun as it ever was, largely improved, and really not worth complaining about if you like the kind of game that it is in the first place.

I'm still not 100% sure if I like these games, but I'm committed to playing all three of them because they're fascinating and unlike anything else on the market.

Terrible combat, but that instruction booklet mechanic is among the top 10 "you can only have this experience in a video game" moments in my entire life. Exploring this game was an absolute joy.
Played for 120 hours and 100% completed all of the content in it, yet ultimately had less fun doing so than everything above it on this list. I think I probably enjoyed it more than everything not included on this list that I played in 2022, though.
