Very fun and challenging game but the game does have its ups and downs. The difficulty in the game is all over the place.
The first half of the game is very easy but once you get to Yakuza, the game starts getting a lot more difficult. However, the difficulty still fluctuates quite a bit. In addition to a couple of other challenging bosses, the main deck boss, SA-X, is challenging at first but once you figure out the patterns the fight becomes a breeze.
Gameplay is the standard Metroid, not that different from Super Metroid. It's not as linear as people make it out to be. If you enjoy Metroid's formula, you will enjoy this game. The secrets are very well hidden. I only got 49% item completion on my first playthrough.
The button mapping is kinda uncomfortable in this game. I recommend finding a good control scheme if possible. I experimented with a few options until I found a good one. It's hard to jump and charge at the same time on default scheme on DSi. (I have long fingers.)
Narratively the game holds up really well and the relationship between Samus and Adam AI was interesting to see grow.
