i've thought a lot about this game since beating it. i don't know, i just have such mixed feelings on it after having seen every ending.

don't get me wrong, this is an excellent game! especially as a study on how badly the internet can fuck someone up, in ways no one really likes to talk about. it's a showcase on microcelebrity culture and how anyone can fall victim to it.

except...some of the endings feel like they're there just to be less good than the actual "good" ending. one example would be the bomber girl ending. i dunno the ending text just really threw me off. "be careful of overdosing on emotions" like...this is a perfectly happy ending. the only "bad" thing about it is the high mental darkness requirement to even get it in the first place (which, the game establishes mental darkness isn't necessarily a bad thing if kept in check). honestly i wouldn't even have a problem with this ending if the true good ending didn't feel so cheap.

the actual good ending is just ame unplugging from the internet. as funny as it is to say the moral of this game is to touch grass, it just feels so hasty? not only is her unplugging implied to be the solution to all her issues, but also the issues of most, if not all her fans. on one hand, yes, i agree with the message; the internet is incredibly dangerous, especially if you're predisposed to any sort of mental condition, and we'd all benefit from taking breaks here and there. but, on the other, i don't think the solution to should be just unplugging from it entirely.

hell, i'd go as far as saying i don't think this is the sort of game that needs a "good" ending. i feel like the message would be so much stronger if every ending was a mixed bag. maybe if the true good ending was just the best and secret ending of a bunch of bad endings

spinning this review away from things that threw me off, i have to say, i was very impressed by the religious horror spin some of the endings took. it's definitely not something i went into the game expecting, but in retrospect, it makes perfect sense to take it that route. i don't have anything else to say about it, except for the fact that my jaw dropped the moment i realized what was going on

this game also has a super interesting meta-story! i've seen some people complain about it being kind of cringey/a rip from DDLC, but i couldn't disagree more. if anything, i think it's a fascinating reversal of what DDLC does. since this is a spoilery review, i'll just spit it out. p-chan, the player, is implied to be ame's creation. i don't know, i just think that's a super cool late-game reveal.

but anyways, even though i have some reservations about a few of the endings, i think this game is more than worth playing. just know it's dark in a way that the content warning at the start doesn't express. and also, don't make the mistake i did and 100% it in two sittings

2020

why'd they have to make it an nft thing :-(

super short and...well i wouldn't say sweet, but... i guess the best way to put it without spoiling the entire thing is that it's very interesting to see how this topic was so uniquely tackled

2008

i have no idea what i just played but. oh my god? oh my god

i don't even want to say anything because i really and truly believe everyone needs to play this blind. my one main complaint is the combat, but i appreciate the inclusion of the auto mode

i hadn't played this game since the meme originally started, and i opened it up for the first time yesterday to play with some friends. honestly? i really like what they've done with the game since!

i think the cosmicube system is a really interesting way to shake up the traditional battlepass model, especially because a lot of it is totally free to play (the only investment being your own time). i just love almost any system in a game where you can unlock cosmetics though

i haven't messed around with the new roles at all (i kept getting normal impostor and crewmate 💔) but they seem like a very interesting way to shake up the gameplay. i especially like the concept of guardian angels (though, again, i haven't had a chance to play one myself)

anyways ramble over i just think they did a lot of fun stuff with this game since it originally blew up. it's totally worth checking out with some friends if you have the time!

less of a game (in the traditional sense) and more of a novel, but it really got me thinking about the potential of 3D visual novels. at its core, i think this game was a very well done experiment for that exact idea.

the story itself is beautifully crafted, and just enough is left open to interpretation to have had my head spinning for days after. it's the sort of writing where you can tell that any question you may have does have an answer, but the author(s) chose to leave it open, which i love.

the thing that really got me about this game, though, is the amount of detail in it. seriously, i spent a very long while reading through all the book titles on every bookshelf, and each and every title has some bearing on the character they're placed near.

even after all of that, this game didn't really strike me as anything very...special? it's a unique foray into this sort of interactive story, and a great experience to boot. but ultimately it's just that, a very well-crafted story that so happens to be interactive.

maybe i'm just being picky, but i dunno. something about this game just made the untapped potential scream out to me

you can make extremely messed up dogs. what is there not to love

i seriously did not expect to enjoy this game nearly as much as i did? i preordered it, because some friends and i thought the E3 trailer was funny. which, yes, the game is very unintentionally funny (jack literally listens to limp bizkit. this is not a joke), but it's also really good.

i'm grateful i went into this having played final fantasy 1 in advance just so i could catch those extra details, but honestly i think it's fine to play without that. the story starts out very... awkwardly. but i swear you have to be patient with it, because it seriously does make sense eventually. it absolutely blew my mind with a nice blend of predictable and unpredictable twists.

the gameplay is an absolute blast, too. i really loved how much experimenting with and building up every class was encouraged. i don't know if i'll 100% this game, but i definitely want to go through and finish some of the postgame content at some point.

i have only one gripe relevant enough to bring up, the fact that the world travel felt a bit hollow. i think this game's fine not being open world or anything like that, but i feel there could have been something done to make the campaign screen feel more alive.

this is a super short play, the idea for this game was super creative and was really what roped me in. i also love that the storyline is about your date finding their own identity and agency, in a world that literally revolves around you.

that said, i feel like the ending just...subverted all of that. i like the idea of the player being stuck in their own head with power, but i don't know. i didn't like seeing the cycle just repeat itself, especially because i as the player had no say in it.

overall, i think this game is fun for what it is! there's definitely more that can be done with it. for instance, multiple story routes and maybe some more customization features would benefit this game greatly.

i...really really enjoyed this game? a whole lot more than i thought i would going into it, at least. i've always been a fan of final fantasy, but recently i've decided i want to tackle the challenge of beating all the mainline games.

the story itself is very bare-bones, as is the gameplay, but it's really fun despite that! the scaling isn't exactly great either, but i feel it's pretty good for NES standards (though admittedly i don't know how much they fixed for the remaster). on the note of this being a remaster, the recomposed soundtrack is absolutely spectacular and i'm desperately hoping it gets uploaded to spotify soon.

there's one part that really made this game special for me, though. they start really hinting at the sci-fi aspects of the world when you first get the airship, but seeing it all slowly fall into place, until you finally reach the flying fortress and realize those robots meant something.

i don't know, just something about being in this otherwise unassuming rustic, medieval fantasy world, then suddenly being on this spaceship with consoles that read out biological information about the elemental you were about to face. it just all hit me in that moment, and it totally blew my mind.

the gameplay in this entry of ni no kuni is absolutely excellent, i genuinely could run around farming forever. not to mention, the progression system, both during and after the story is spectacular!

the graphics and art direction are just gorgeous, even without ghibli this time around (i do quite miss the 2d cutscenes, though)

i particularly like the idle kingdom building aspect, it's really nice spending a few hours farming resources in the world for whatsoever you need them for, and then coming back to a full stash of gold waiting in your kingdom.

the only issue i really have with this game is that the story feels a lot more immature than the previous one. i love them and all, but i just don't feel for these characters as much as i do the characters in the original

honestly it's so fun waking up every day and remembering i have a new wordle to do

speaking as someone who doesn't have any sort of nostalgic connection to metal gear (i only just started playing the series) i really think this is the perfect conclusion to the series as a whole

i loved the gameplay in this one so much, the level design was on point, especially some of those boss fights!! i just wish there was more of it between all the cutscenes (i don't really mind, they were very fun to watch)

it's super neat seeing how far the graphics have come, as well! but honestly i think this game is a bit ugly, especially compared to the past games. it's meant to be realistic, of course, but it doesn't have that same stylistic charm that the other solid games have. it's just a bit...bland looking

my main gripe has to be how forced/rushed some parts of the story felt, but ultimately it's not something i really mind. the rest of the game and all the homages to the past more than made up for it, in my opinion
