American Truck Simulator does exactly what it advertises. With a graphically pretty recreation of America's highway routes, and a wide selection of semi trucks and trailers, American Truck Simulator brings a realistic simulator experience to anyone who may want to step into the life of a semi trucker. If you have friends who share your odd interest, the game does have multiplayer support for convoys. As an SCS Software game, like Euro Truck Simulator 2, 90% of the game will be locked behind paid DLC. Thankfully, the DLC is on sale more times than not, but they're definitely additions you'll want if the game interests you.
It's Euro Truck Simulator 2 with 70% more freedom.
Most things that could be said about ETS can be said about ATS. It's being continuously updated with more content- we're only up to the Midwest at this point in time- and the older stuff is being brought up to modern standards with reworks. It's not something I play all the time but it is a comfy game to play when I want something low stress to play.
It does a fairly good job at giving states their landmarks, and at least from what I've seen it does a good job at giving every state its own mood and vibe.
It's a fun game but I definitely understand why you wouldn't want to spend full price on it. It goes on sale pretty often so it's worth waiting until then.

once you get over the fact that this is clear DLC bait, and that you spend half your life savings on getting all those damn map DLCs, it's just about one of the best games I've ever played. drive through the day and through the night, from Cali to Texas and beyond, deliver eggs or other semi-trucks, roll your windows up and down, see the sequoias, the mountains and the deserts. go 90MPH on country roads carrying tens of thousands of dollars worth of explosive chemicals, or respect traffic laws perfectly. you're free. you're the king. the American dream.
i enjoy just turning this game on and doing a job while somethings on in the background, but i think without having dlc and considering how much dlc there is it just feels like im missing out on a big part of the game. of the 3 states available in the base game i feel like after about 30 hours in im getting tired of driving by all of the same places i already recognize. i feel like ive been making 45k-60k per long job since level 10 and it hasnt changed at level 20. ive also already hired like 3 employees and i feel like theres not much left to work towards in the game except for driving around and doing jobs when im bored. i was having fun working towards growing my evil truck empire but now i feel like ive grown it as much as i can. there is still some fun to be had though when youre driving like a maniac speeding everywhere weaving between cars with traffic violations turned off
multiplayer is funny too i like putting on a fake southern accent and fucking with people who take the game too seriously. if you have friends with the game doing jobs with them can be fun too
