Miitopia is a decent JRPG that gets repetitive by the end. The early areas each have their own storyline, with the fairy forest probably being the best and even featuring some additional battle companions and a nice ending cutscene. However, it all goes downhill after the Dark Lord's Castle - you have all your companions, all the candies, Mii Relationships are probably pretty far along, etc. Despite all that, the game manages to stretch itself out for 5 more hours by introducing a second villain to take down and making you go through boring worlds that only exist to run through to fight "sidequest" bosses. The true final boss is cool, but it can't make up for the slog the last fourth of the game is.
Just a solid fun turn based RPG. It's nothing crazy or amazing but you'll enjoy your time with it. There's also a lot of content, much more than I was initially expecting. I have a few complaints, one is that I wish there was some control for other party members. Even if not direct control, something like Persona 3's Tactic system would've made it more enjoyable. Instead you just have to pray to God the AI is smart (it usually isn't). Also, for a game with so many classes and potential party members, it's a shock that there's zero EXP share of any kind. I can kind of understand a level reset from changing classes, but party members not in use not getting any EXP makes them basically useless, and makes things like party splits and sick teammates very annoying.
Overall, maybe wait for a price drop for like $40 and I'd say it's pretty worth it.

Every copy of this game is personalized and it is glorious. If you want to play a game that'll just make you smile the whole time you play, consider this one. It's not perfect, but still a fun enough time to where you can ignore those problems. The game's just super silly and enjoyable, and at this point the review of this is getting redundant from me constantly saying how fun this game is, so just believe me and play it already!
Had an absolute blast playing through Miitopia over discord with a bunch of internet friends. Stories that developed at random included many love triangles, one of our buddies having a strange penchant for sneaking bananas into people's pockets, and two members of our party getting sick almost every day.
This is a fantastically off-beat game that knows how to set up strange scenarios in just the right way so that the players can find their own fun.

I played the original 3DS version to death (quite literally, my copy of it doesn't even work anymore) and I've played the Switch version to death as well. This is one of the only ports of a game where I can without a doubt say it's better than the original in every way. Anyway, Miitopia is a very simple RPG designed around inserting your Miis into the story. It's kind of like a DND campaign in some way. The Mii customization is the best we have ever seen and it's a crime that it's not the default Mii maker. I don't think a blind playthrough is necessary since the enjoyment comes from putting your Miis in silly situations, but anyone interested should definitely play the demo in the E-Shop. It's a section from the first area in the game and is a great introduction to what the game is like.
miitopia's not a perfect game by any means, and you have to be willing to put up with silly JRPG stuff and backtracky stuff (although, funnily enough, there's no need to grind if you dont want to which is nice) but i love this game so much. i LOVE miis. i love them so much. i love my little guy, KJH is his name. i made him in january 2007 shortly after the nintendo wii came out. in that time, i have made ONE edit to KJH, which was to make his head slightly smaller. that's it. he's the same otherwise. anygame that i get to see my silly little boy having fun is a game i'm going to love. and this game has so many ways of having fun! the classes are all very varied and have lots of fun aspects too them (some more than others, sorry Tank) and the fact that miis play every single NPC is so great! being able to put anyone you want in is so much fun! this game is just truly charming if you enjoy the gameplay involved. i really, really love it so much. there's some annoying stuff about how certain classes get slightly worse when they level up? like when the Cat starts stealing food instead of attacking its just a wasted turn! some personalities are just better than others (Stubborn and Cool are better than Laidback and Airheaded for example) and there could be MORE to do in the towns too, for the fact that after the story there's almost no reason to ever return to them. more opportunities to actually run around and talk to people, maybe lean more into the JRPG and actually buy stuff from each town's stores? that could be fun! but idk! gimme a sequel!!!!
ever since Tomodachi Life came to American audiences in 2014 I have been, admittedly, kind of obsessed with Mii games. this game is no exception. the fact that you can make an RPG and put in whoever you want is genuinely great. it's a bit bogged down by unfair postgame enemies and in-game achievements that feel more like busywork as you get closer to 100%ing the game, but it's genuinely a great game with one of the most killer soundtracks Nintendo has ever produced. I genuinely like this game's soundtrack more than Undertale, and that's a hard bar to clear
I will note that what you put in this game you will get out of it. I never tired of having my OCs in the game but people playing with more memey characters may tire out of the game a lot easier, it seems
