Sonic and All Star Racing: Transformed may have sucked out a lot of diversity and originality out of the first one, but in return we got an even better kart racing game mechanic that makes even Mario Kart blush blue shells. With the ability to virtual do anything with a group of friends, an extensive campaign, large amount of unlock-able content, and the stellar stunt and drifting controls; Transformed really lives up to its name sake by changing the way we should look at kart racing. Overall this is one of the most pleasant games to not only imitate a formula from a previous series, but also improve greatly on it's premise; if you have any interest in this game get it.
alongside crash team racing nitro fueled, i'm forever going to be angry that mario kart is more popular than this when it genuinely feels so much more fun to play. not to mention the arcade-y aesthetic, dynamic track designs, and music just slap so hard.
and heavy from TF2 is a playable racer in the pc port. also ryo races in a outrun cabinet.

Ok, tbh? I really liked it at the times for being an alternative Mario Kart with awesome graphics. Returning a decade later and...yeah, game didn't age well, especially on the physics and balacing. I definitely got spoiled by MK8DD (which improved the base game).
Peak version still since you can play as SEGA mascots, Wreck-it Ralph and TF2 Pyro/Heavy/Spy.

Not only the best kart racer, but the best racing game period.
Controls great, all the items are balanced, lots of single player content and a large variety of characters from different SEGA franchises to unlock.
What really makes it the GOAT though, is the transforming karts and tracks. There are only a few race tracks where all 3 laps are the same, all the others change mid race thus making them much more interesting than every other kart racer where all laps are exactly the same.

Despite not knowing a lot of the SEGA characters, I had a lot of fun with this game. The changing course designs and drifting/transformation gameplay mechanics are arguably better than Mario Kart and it actually has a single player mode; even though it’s half baked, I still enjoyed it and it’s better than the little single player content Mario Kart games have to offer. If you are at all a fan of cart racers I recommend you check this out, it usually goes on sale on Steam for pretty cheap.
One of the best Kart racers I've ever played. The mechanics are simple and very rewarding to master. You'll be going at absurd speeds once you get the hang of it.
The race tracks are all excellent love letters to the games they were based off of and it even shows in its glorious soundtrack.
I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a more skill based Kart racer or any SEGA fans that haven't already played it.
