I mean yeah nice gameplay but whats the point ? If there is no story or something why should i just continue playing ? Is it to try that RPG tree? no because they are all passive skills. Is it to try new weapons ? Yeah maybe but it doesn't push me that much since its hard to die due to the simple enemy paterns.
So as far as I can remember, I've never played any roguelikes. My concern was the grindy nature would bore me out within a few hours. I was half right about this, but I'll get into it a bit later.
The vast amount of weapons, skills, mutations, aspects, and biomes provide so much variety (Especially with DLC), I was really enjoying the first few hours. The gameplay loop was working and I was in. At about the 10 hour mark and multiple failed attempts of some very good runs, I was getting tired of it. The game wasn't fun anymore. I just wanted to complete a run just to say I had done it. So I used assist mode. Sure, it wasn't an "honest" run, but I'm really glad this option was available for those who just want a more casual experience. It allows more people to enjoy the game.
I've come to learn that these kinds of games are better going little by little and not a constant binge. I think I'll hack away at this throughout the year and see if I can attempt an "honest" run down the line. For a first roguelike to experience, this game certainly is a good one to start off with! The artstyle is great, the writing is quite funny, and the gameplay is slick.

While I personally could never get fully into Dead Cells, I can 100% understand why so many people love this game. It's graphics are great and the combat is rewarding. It's a bit stressful for me to play and once I completed the first loop I fell off of it. It isn't a bad game by any sense of the word but it's a game I couldn't get invested in unfortunately. All the love and support to this game and developers though.
I would honestly say at this point that this is one of my favorite games of the past 10 years. I bought it on the Switch not knowing what it was. Before I knew it, 80+ hours of exciting, enthralling, enjoyable game play had flown by. When Bad Seed was released, I finally decided to get it on PC and start over brand new. And I'm honestly enjoying it just as much as the first time I played.
I'm not usually a fan of roguelike games, but I am a big fan of Metroidvania style games. Dead Cells has enough of both to make it feel fresh and original, yet also familiar and welcoming. The artwork and animation are beautiful. The color palette and backgrounds give the player a great sense of depth for the 2D space. The music sets the mood of every level. I find myself listening to Yoann Laulan's soundtrack often.
The level designs are beautiful and immersive. The levels are challenging without being frustrating. The random generation of the levels makes exploring fun every time; even the first level, the Prisoners’ Quarters, is still fun to explore after playing through it multiple hundreds of times. The enemy designs are diverse and exciting. They look great. They have interesting mechanics to learn. The constant updates really keep the game fresh, too.
I could probably talk about how much I love Dead Cells for hours. For now, I’ll just say: Give it a shot. Dead Cells is a beautiful, immersive, evolving game with a gorgeous soundtrack. It has MANY hours of enjoyable gameplay packed into it. I cannot recommend Dead Cells enough!
Also worth noting that every single DLC pack has been worth the price. The new levels, new enemies, and new bosses add a great deal of replay value.

this game is really hard and punishing, but because everything is so fast and the controls feel great it never feels like the game is at fault,
there are a ton of weapons to choose from which all feel pretty unique from eachother, different areas to go to and different bosses you can fight, easily in my top 3 roguelike/roguelites of all time
