the chain combo gameplay is kinda fun... but there's no reason to play this over sfa2.

A bit sluggish version of the much more superior later versions. Introducing new sprite work for the beloved Street Fighter cast, they definitely got a much needed refreshing design.

The soundtrack while decent, also isn't as good as its later versions. The button chaining for combos was more fitting for a game in the Versus series which is why it stayed there, and got removed in Alpha 2 and 3.

Enjoyment: 5/8
Replayability: 0.5/1
Graphics: 0.5/0.5
Sound: 0/0.5
Total: 6/10

Decent - Super clean and intuitive gameplay, not many characters, but feels good to play, and generally plays well.

Main - Adon

A série alpha é o ponto mais alto da franquia. O jogo é maravilhoso mesmo, tudo nele é perfeito, desde art style até a gameplay. Mas, assim como em todos os de arcade, a máquina é bem roubadinha viuKKKKKKKK

Pretty big upgrade from SF2. Character designs are really cool looking, the arcade mode is actually playable this time, secret characters, Final Fight characters, dramatic battles and combo cancelling being introduced is a cool touch up from previous games. Character rival cutscenes in arcade mode is also really exciting and adds a really nice touch to the early lore beginnings for this series.

This game still got hella crust to it tho. Inputs (especially for supers) don't always register. The AI is seemingly trained to constantly run away from you and its frustrating to try and enter when the stages (which are also kind of bland) are unnecessarily long so it gives them constant room to run and dodge you. Combo cancelling is fun until Bison's AI starts queueing up like 20 charge moves and keeps you in a string. And when taking into account the bad input registration, it makes charge characters a nightmare to play. Also any AI character with a fireball is an asshole and spams 30 fireballs at you the moment the round starts to zone you out.

Besides the broken super combo system, this is just a better SF2 with a weirder roster.

nice start to the alpha series but why play this when you can play alpha 2

This is really fun! It just needs some fine-tuning to be fully fleshed out. It is nice how this fleshes out Ryu too! Here is when I really fell in love with him and his character. I am glad how this became the established tone of the Alpha series.

Street fighter com algumas mecânicas que mudaram tudo pra melhor. Bom demais

buen juego de peleas e inicio de la saga alpha

The first original Street Fighter game after the countless updates to SFII

For what it is, it's a neat new take on the series. The anime aesthetic is pretty unique and gives the game it's own charm, and the new counter system adds some depth to the gameplay. However, the game sadly feels a little unfinished.

The roster feels a little puny compared to SFII's roster, and the Arcade mode isn't quite as impressive as the one featured in II (No exclusive boss characters), though the addition of a unique route for every character is certainly a neat touch.

This is also the first game to ever feature Dan Hibiki, so it's a 10/10

It's sorta like street fighter 2 but with a new counter system and a more pleasing aesthetic graphically. Feels a little bare bones gameplay wise compared to today. Personally I think you can honestly skip this one and play the far superior sequels of this series

Learning how to do the Raging Demon felt like unlocking a secret of the universe and it's probably why I'm still so tied up with fighting games and Street Fighter specifically. I have no idea if this game is any good, but I sure did play the living shit out of it.

Played this plenty of times at this retro arcade in my home town.

My favorite Street Fighter game. Well, toss up between this and SFA2.
I was glad to see the change up in sprite style. More in line with the Darkstalkers’ style.
And giving the characters more than one super.
Also introduced the world to the greatest martial artist in the known universe: Dan Hibiki!
It’s not very well balanced (Akuma will destroy everyone lol), but there’s some fun to be had in that.
I like that the boss depends on who you choose. That was a nice addition to the genre that is still underutilized.
Bring it!

Almost felt like this could've been the best SF so far, but holy crap was Bison bullshit, rest of the game felt pretty balanced though. Also quite a few characters cut from the roster and also a pretty small one over all.

I played as Rose.

Muito divertido. Muita coisa nova em relação aos anteriores.

Curto, divertido e revolucionário

Aside from a secret Dan boss battle, I really don't see a reason to play the original Alpha over 2 or 3. For the most part it feels like an extremely bare bones game that is trying to build up the next part of the series rather than be some sort of define version for itself.

the GBC version is probably the best vintage 8-bit fighting game ever made? just leagues above anything else on the Game Boy, and likely stands up to anything on the NES or Master System.
