I've only finished book 1 but I love this! It's so much fun, such clever level design. And it's one of those games that's just begging to 100% it. So far there was really only one bs secret where you go "there is no way I would've found this without a guide" type bs. I loved the Captain Toad levels in Mario 3D world so I knew this would be good.

It's alright. Had fun playing on and off with my wife.

Played on the Switch version; found all Power Stars, Gems, Pixel Toads, beat the Challenge Time on every stage, basically did everything possible. I also did the same on the DLC content, so there is nothing left for me to achieve on Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. It's an excellent game, but I will wait for a sequel before replaying.

Really fun game definitely recommend, but not a must play game. It’s a game, it’s fun, that’s about it

A fun puzzle game that takes the Captain Toad levels from Super Mario 3D World and expands it to turn into it's own solo title!

a simple yet immensely pleasing action/puzzle game. almost wish i owned labo so i could get the full vr captain toad experience

It was a fun puzzler and I liked the bonus challenges except for when it involved stealth or perfect timing. I prefer the puzzle-based or search-based challenges much better. I got all 3 gems on every level in Episodes 1-3 and in the DLC. I also got all 3 gems in the Special episode up until you needed to 100% episodes 1-3 as that's where I called it a day. Also got every Pixel Toad in the game.

This game is so underrated and I think more people should play it. The puzzles are fun and the little dioramas have so much charm

Esse jogo não tinha nenhum motivo pra ser tão bom assim, mas ainda bem q ele é

Adorably cute puzzle-ish platformer game. I never played the Wii U version; I played this solo on the Switch system. There were a few levels that were difficult; you had to dodge enemies while using the touch screen on the Switch to interact with your environment. It felt like you need three hands at times. I'm not sure if those levels are easier to do with the controllers. The rest of the levels felt more balanced.

But special kudos to the level designers. I loved the very stylized isometric levels that showed underground, water, and the occasional building cut in half. Incredibly creative and fun. The characters and enemies were adorable. It was hard to be too upset at them if you were killed.

The gold levels were fun to play. Basically a race to get as many coins as possible while earning you lives. There was so much more I could collect.

My game time included the base game, some of the bonus levels, and the Special Episode DLC. I wasn't super impressed with the DLC since it was recycled base game levels with different mechanics. There were only two (?) levels that were new out of 18. The boss was recycled too. But I was surprised by the bonus levels. If you're a collector or want more of a challenge, I would recommended those after the main game.

A real gem (pun intended) of a game. Pure Nintendo charm through and through.. some irritating repetition at times and a few tedious levels, but otherwise I had a fun time 100%-ing Episodes 1, 2, and 3.

A charming little puzzle game I just couldn't get into. The game feels slow (which I think is the point), but because of this the game loses player engagement. It doesn't feel like a meandering journey, it feels like a slow as I wish Captain Toad could just move that much faster. However, the game has so much charm and detail in every corner of the levels.

Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is a game that surprises me. It took a gameplay segment from 3D World that I wasn't a big fan of and made them good. Now I wouldn't say they were awful in 3D World but there weren't many and they were very basic and easy. It kind of felt like they did it intentionally since you couldn't do them in co-op (On Wii U) so they probably just made them easy so the other 3 didn't get bored of you just being there for a bit.

For the actual game this page is for like I said it takes what it had and made it rather interesting. I like how a lot of it uses elements from 3D World's normal Mario levels and makes it it's own level. Stuff like having a level with the double cherry or having those beat blocks in a level. The game even added this new powerup that is basically a pickaxe version of the hammer from Donkey Kong. I also like the new gameplay of picking up stuff ala Super Mario USA.

Toadette was also added for this adventure though she plays the exact same but it's nice to see her. I also got to compliment the game for even adding new gameplay ideas like trying to make a runaway from this new dragon like enemy or riding a minecart and shoot turnips at enemies or obstacles. There's a lot here to excite a player. There's also not many levels that are too annoying though there's not really any level that will make you think too hard which could also be a good thing but it's up to you.

If there is one big complaint I have with the game, it's got to be this thing where you go up to this wheel and spin with the right stick to move a thing in the environment. I guess should say I think this is a Switch exclusive problem but I'm not positive about that but when you step on these the game puts this image of the wheel that covers most of the screen and it's really annoying. I think they did this if you were playing in handheld mode and could spin with the touch screen but it's still awful to look at. I'm also not a big fan of using gyro for stuff like those touch blocks, at least in 3D World's Switch port I didn't have to use it much but it wasn't the case here.

Also what's the point of lives here? Personally if I was making this game I would just remove them and have the challenge be if you die you lose the gems you collected on that run. 3D World's Switch port also did this but I hate how if you die you just keep the collectibles even if you reset the level manually it lets you keep them. I just feel like it's really not satisfying to get a collectible and then die and have no consequences outside of just spending about 20-60 seconds getting back to where I was.

There's more I could talk about here but I don't wanna drag this review out. As a game I played for free (Thanks to the Online Game Trials thing) it was a good time. There's a lot to like about it even if it's not the most enjoyable thing in the world. Not sure if it's worth $40 but it's a charming game and has a lot of good going for it. Also the Odyssey connection they do in the end was dumb, you don't even play these kind of levels in Odyssey. They like missed the whole point for why it was connected to 3D World in continuity. Oh well I'm not really that mad about it. Also the music is really good I can't believe this is really how the review is ending this is awkward now.

I have such a fondness for this game. One of the most charming and unique puzzle games I’ve played. It innovates through simplicity and minimal scale. It encourages exploration and rewards curiosity. Easy enough to pick up and put down in short play sessions, but gripping enough to keep me playing through longer ones.

While not a Switch original, it’s probably one of my favorite titles on the console.

It does nothing offensive in the slightest. This is probably one of the best games to recommend who is new to gaming. As for me, I wanna take a hit of cyanide before I boot up a game, and this game isn't spicy enough. It's just a bit too easy for my preference is what I am saying.

Cute and charming all the way through! This game is unique in many ways. I'm not a puzzle guy, but this game takes it to another level and just makes almost every puzzle GOOD! Even the easiest, short or hard ones, everything is so charismatic that the "AHA" moments, whether silly or challenging, are very satisfaying.

Soundtrack is nice, albeit repetitive, but it packs a few cozy and entertaining songs. Sound design goes without saying, since Nintendo always knocks it out of the park on this aspect. Graphics feel "comfortable" and safe, waving from deliciously built levels and some very simple moments, that warmed my heart.

Still, there are a few things to dislike here. The camera, although mostly 'ok', can become a pain. Controls can feel a little bit stiff, sometimes. Some levels are unnecessarily "big" and this Switch version, overall, might just outstay its welcome. "Boo" levels seem to always drop the ball and the "special" and "bonus" levels lack the variety and creativity from regular chapters. Also, the game is way better when played by couch co-op, since a few stages feel like they were exclusively built for it.

But the bad aspects of this game does not outweighs the good ones. This is a very accessible, well-crafted and beautifully designed product. It may not be perfect or super creative all the way through, but it's totally worth it.

Not a bad puzzle game in theory, with Nintendo's standard level of polish and I like the diorama look to everything. Unfortunately, the movement of both the character and the camera were painfully slow which really pushed me away from wanting to keep playing after just a few levels at a time and discouraged me from wanting to explore the levels to find the extra hidden items.

Decent short puzzle game. It's a good game to play for a short burst or two. None of the puzzles are particularly hard but some bonus challenges in certain levels can get somewhat difficult. Boss fights get reused a few times but the level designs are different enough to make each encounter feel unique.

Just a nice short little puzzle game, it was really light and just the change of pace I needed after some of the heavy games I've been playing recently. The level design is really fun for the most part, albeit some levels are a bit forgettable but they're fine for the most part, the gameplay is simplistic but fun and stimulating, the collectables are fun to get and the stage challenges are a good way to add replay value to each level and the game as a whole. Overall, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is just a pleasant short and sweet adventure and one that everyone could use a bit of every now and then.
