A game that does a lot within the limitations of the GBA.
Crash Bandicoot The Huge Adventure does a great job taking what we know about the bandicoot and shrinking it down into a game that still feels like a Crash game!
All the stuff you’d expect is here just now it’s a 2D adventure! Levels are pretty quick and fun.
With that said for me this is one of those games that I finished but really have no drive to 100%, even though I know there’s a cool reward for doing so. This is mainly due to the time trials just being a little to aggravating for me. (Also I never got the yellow gem cause of how hard it is to get to).
If you enjoy Crash you’ll enjoy this game for me personally though I’ve always been more of a Spyro guy.

Very good adaptation - on par with the PS1 games. Crash has always been a 2D platformer at heart, so the only difference is that now you go right instead of forward. It looks beautiful for a GBA game and has some impressive pseudo-3D moments. Its boss fights aren't the most inspired, but that's ok for a Crash game.
Well... this is Crash Bandicoot.. but on the Game Boy Advance.
I do think Crash's mechanics were translated fairly well to 2D but some things were kind of off like the jumping and even the spins at times were a little delayed(?) Music was typical Crash music and level design is what you'd expect. The story was really dumb though LOL like it's barely a story. Bosses were really annoying and not impactful. The final boss with Cortex was hardly a fight at all, I wouldn't have even minded a second phase. Don't like how, for I guess the true ending you need to get all the gems and relics in each level and basically play the whole game over again. Glad I played this though because I love Crash and I love the GBA so playing this was a no brainer. The difficulty gets really really unfair though, but that's Crash for you.

Barring a few control inconsistencies with other games that may or may not have been intentional (such as only being able to spin through 1 column of boxes at a time, not being able to slide jump off ledges, some collision oddities as the result of everything being pre-rendered at a weird angle), this game is pretty good. I think by putting Crash solely in 2D, you miss a lot of what makes his games special as a 3D platformer, but it's not that big of a deal either. It's the first true handheld Crash game, and it's good enough for what it is.
The pre-rendered graphics look REALLY nice (all the bosses pre-Cortex and the big yeti that runs at you in the ice levels especially stood out), the music is all lovingly recreated from older games (though the bosses curiously had their themes all swapped with each other... there's a patch you can grab from ROMhacking.net to fix this), and aside from getting plat relics, the game itself usually isn't too hard.

In a nutshell, what happens when you combine Crash 2 and 3 and make it a portable game for the GBA. Not as good as the games it emulates but probably close to as good as it could have been given the platform.
Given the even shorter lenght than the games it's based on (4x5 main levels instead of 5x5) it works as a quick pallette cleanser and interesting quick visit for a Crash fan that didn't own a GBA back in the day. Also fun to see the origins of Vicarious Visions working on the series before they made the remaster trilogy over a decade later. Weirdly enough Nintendo didn't make a single original Mario platformer for the console, instead relying on ports, while Crash of all things got multiple original games.
A game I was glad to complete, but won't have a reason to return to in the future.
The Good:
- Good ol' Crash gameplay in portable form. I would have loved this as a kid on car rides and such.
- Definitely does not overstay it's welcome. By the time you feel like you have seen enough you are basically done.
- Collecting all the gems and relics actually rewards you with a bonus level, which is nice. The original games only changed the ending.
The Bad:
- Basically nothing original. Every level style, character ect. is from the older games. The most original new assets could be summed up with a few enemies and like one song.
- Considering there are less levels than most Crash games, it boggles the mind how many of them are gimmick levels. There was no need for multiple flying levels. Also could have cut down the underwater levels by one.
- Controls are not quite as tight as the console counterparts. Mainly affecting the slide-jump not always working as you'd hope.
- The narrative is absolute nothingburger, even by the series standards
- Being GBA, the audio quality is the biggest issue in the presentation front. It lacks the chiptune charm something like a GBC game would have. Instead it chooses to adapt the music from older Crash games, with mixed results.

A decent enough Crash Bandicoot adventure. There isn't much special about this as most of it is pulled from Crash 2 and 3 just in 2D. My only complaint is with the Space Harrier-esque sky levels, the later ones relied far too much on enem7and projectile spam, to the point where I doubt I will try getting all the gems.
This was one of the first games I ever played, after 20 years I finally got around to beating it.. Crash XS was the first attempt to bring Crash to the handheld, and while not perfect, it’s a fun game that does its job well.
Cortex decides to shrink the whole planet, this doesn’t really change anything because everything was shrunk, but Crash must collect 20 crystals and restore the planet.
The structure is the exact same from the original trilogy, there’s gems to collect for breaking boxes in levels and colour gems allowing you to find new routes in older stages.
There is quite a bit of backtracking to get 100% here, but the game is pretty short so I didn’t mind too much.
The game doesn’t really do anything new, except a new take on jet pack levels, it’s a safe game with a bit of swimming, bit of flying, but mostly 2D Crash gameplay.
The control is good but not perfect, it’s a little unresponsive, but this only really matters during the returning time trials.
XS doesn’t do much beyond that, there’s only a few stage themes, but generally level design brought satisfying platforming the series is known for. It’s aged graphically, though it does look better on original hardware. The music is mostly just Remixed Crash 2 music, but it works.
Crash XS is a fine game, but when the original games are so easily available, I feel it has less significance - still glad to finally beat it - 7/10

I'd be lying if I said this wasn't enjoyable, but all it is is just Crash Bandicoot but as a GBA-suitable platformer. There's nothing really that compelling to it beyond the basic premise and even then it's just a generic platformer. I absolutely adore old graphics so I didn't mind the dated visuals here but all I'm saying is the 1996 ones actually look infinitely better
What surprised me the most were the levels in which crash escapes from something. I think is a visual achievment to create this 3D effect in a GBA game. It looks pretty good. The other levels are what you would excpect from a 2D platformer. Controlling crash feels decent and the level design is good, altough many of the levels are just copies of already existing levels from the original Trilogy. There's not much more i can say, it's a short and inoffensive game.
Exactly what you expect when you think of Crash Bandicoot on the GBA, unfortunately the controls are often unresponsive making tight platforming sections a nightmare. There are also a lot of blind jumps throughout the game which are frustrating.
They also reuse a lot of level types so it gets boring very quickly.
I would recommend a quick playthrough but not completing 100%.
