I didn’t think I’d ever play Fallout 76 as I heard it had an abysmal launch.
It’s literally just Fallout 4 + Multiplayer Online.
This means the graphics are nice - for an early 2010s game. Oddly, this means the game almost feels nostalgic at this point.
But I think it’s excellent, so far it has all my favourite parts of Fallout 4, I like to just explore the world slowly. And I’m planning on playing it co-op which I think will enhance the experience quite a bit. The always-online / MMO aspect, I think, works in favour of Fallout’s setting - it makes the stakes feel a little higher in that you can’t game the system in the same ways you can in a single player game. Similarly, the tweaked survival system has put more emphasis on food, hydration and other chems beside Stimpacks.
The dialogue system from New Vegas makes a return, and that alone is making progressing through the campaign more enjoyable than Fallout 4 for me.
I’m playing as a revolver-toting gunslinger, but I receive about 6 bullets for every enemy I kill with 1 or 2, meaning I’ve amassed 800 revolver bullets in just a few hours, so that could’ve been reworked a little - I don’t have any reason to try other weapons. Nonetheless, it runs very well on PS5 and the shooting is the best it’s been in a Fallout title.
The C.A.M.P system also looks like a good appropriation from Fallout 4’s building system.
I’m enjoying this a good amount.

Great DLC! I think Android 17 and 18 were actually the best boss fight in the whole game. One would keep their distance and put you off-balance with ki beams, the other would rush and hit you with combos. They felt coordinated and actually provided a challenge.
Gohan’s last ditch Kamehameha gave me goosebumps and reminded me of Bardock.
I think the story was told faithfully, and going through Trunks’ own Buu Saga was a short bonus - was great to see him turn Super Saiyan 2.
I muted the BGM and played a Faulconer DBZ playlist on shuffle, which fit much better for me.
It wasn’t overly long but I hear the other DLCs are much shorter, which is a bummer. But I had a good few hours with this and find it to be just as good in quality as the best game. Too bad the option for Goku Black was there but they didn’t take it.

I think the concept is cool, and fits nicely with DBZ. There’s some nice touches sprinkled throughout, I love how Cell starts as his larval stage for example.
But I think the survivors should’ve just been more original DB characters like Launch, Chiaotzu, Roshi, Chi Chi.
I also think randomly powering up into a doppelgänger of a Z fighter doesn’t really feel in line with the assymetrical concept.
It also reuses the same models and textures from Xenoverse 2, that look particularly bad from the close-up perspective of the survivor.
Oh, and the micro transaction system is horrendous.
I appreciate the attempt of exploring a new genre for a DBZ game, but I don’t think it’s worth playing. Makes me want to play a good asymmetrical game.
