honestly, even though this is generally a good game Idk if I would've finished had I not already invested so much time into it I felt I had to. the missions are just too repetitive and the menus are terrible there's just a lot of friction for what could just be a more fun casual version of Monster Hunter, also for a "remake" of sorts this feels too much like a PSP game the game does get better at the "rage burst" part of the game aka the new content to this version which I did for the sake of getting the true ending but that's like saying the game gets good after 30 hours
the soundtrack is pretty good though

Amazing game, plus the purchase comes with an updated version of the first game for free!

I enjoyed the story a lot (Romeo's death was sad and unexpected, my boy didn't deserve this!); the game itself also gave me Dauntless/Monster Hunter vibes (gameplay-wise) - hunting down giant monsters and breaking their parts for materials to craft; the intro/ending anime cinematics are on point; the soundtrack is amazing (Yuno's voice too!); the craft part is nice, we can make weapons with element attacks to counter certain type of Aragami and make loadouts; the characters were fine, I liked some more than others, really loved Ciel, Gilbert, Alisa, Romeo, Kigurumi, and Licca; the character customization is quite good, with a vast variety of voice packs for our character; there's a lot of missions, content, character missions, and extra/special missions to do; when it comes to bugs the game ran flawless, no bugs at all, at least not in single-player.

To sum up, it's a game that the more I played, the more I fell in love with it.

I'm also looking forward to getting the third game!

GE2:RB is an excellent sequel to GE:R. Upon replaying it, I continue to adore this game as much as I used to but I felt some of the characters and story elements didn’t resonate with me as much as they did years ago. Despite this, it’s still a lovely game. I attribute some of the change to being older so different characters resonated with me differently being 24 now compared to 18. But I would still recommend this game to anyone. And I feel obligated to add that Ciel and Livie are the greatest.

JULIUUUSSS I'M SOOOO DRUNKKKKKK

It has the same problems as the other two in that its got SO much fucking padding but also I just finished and I laughed. I cried. I whooped. The found familyisms. Oh my god. I'm about to start crying again. The gameplay is nothing to write home about but if you love the power of friendship and anime tropes then use wemod to skip the gameplay and play the story.

my other favorite 3.5/5 game

The soundtrack!!!!

Oh, and Nana t*iddies.

This was probably the corniest game I've ever played. 4.5/5

whoever had patrick seitz voice a scottish character and not direct him to have a scottish accent: fuck you

I honestly went into the game expecting maybe minor changes at most from Resurrection while still following the general formula of the first game but I was more than surprised to come out with definitely one of my fave action games ever.

God Eater 2: Rage Burst is honestly one of the most perfect sequels ever with how much improvements it delivers in every aspect from the first game. The main story is a lot more dramatic, convincing, and thrilling this time around as well as the main cast who appear quite one-sided at first but develop into very interesting and lovable characters as you learn about their backgrounds and progress the story and they even made me genuinely like a character who I hated from the beginning. The side cast in the game is quite huge too with a couple of new characters and a lot of returning ones from the first game which gave me a huge sense of nostalgia despite starting the game only a week after finishing Resurrection. Despite the huge list of characters though, they do an excellent job of letting the player interact, learn about, and grow with each and every one of the side cast through Character Episodes which require a bit of grinding sometimes but are honestly some of the highlights of Rage Burst. Some of these include a womanizer who tries to convince you of the importance of women's legs, a very clumsy but eager bazooka-wielder, and even the branch's pet capybara who does nothing but sleep and eat all day and it's easy to get attached to everyone with how fleshed out they all are.

The overall combat system also gets a big improvement through the addition of several very interesting features. The addition of Blood Arts add a lot of depth and versatility to the once limited-feeling arsenal that make it feel very fresh and different from the first game in terms of melee combat. And on the other hand, we also got Blood Bullets which heavily encourages making use of all 4 diverse gun types and also incentivizes everyone to make their own bullets through the Bullet Editor, which admittedly I did not care for at all in Resurrection but soon found myself spending hours just messing around with creating a handful of funny and devastating bullets. And even after all these still comes one of the most fun power up systems I've ever seen in an action game, the Blood Rage mechanic. I honestly don't wanna get into detail about it since the excitement of activating Blood Rage in a battle is one of the most addicting stuff that will never stop feeling like the best thing ever even after your hundredth use and every player just has to experience it for themselves.

For every action game, I'll say the combat is just as good as the enemies to unleash all these on and Rage Burst is home of some of the best Aragami in the franchise. They've added a lot of really well-designed and fun to fight Aragami as well as some of the most difficult ones ever and it really just shows the improvements in their game design as the series progressed. Some of the ones worth mentioning are the Marduk, Chrome Gawain, and especially the Mukuro Kyuubi which are definitely the fights to look out for as they really showcase how good the Aragamis in Rage Burst are. Paired with some really nice new maps and especially an absolutely godlike soundtrack, it's very easy to just find yourself stuck on the very fun and rewarding combat loop which, funnily enough for an MH clone, actually has almost negative grinding for materials. The upgrade tree for weapons is very small which initially weirded me out but upon realizing how they pretty much did away with the MH stigma of "endless material grinding for upgrades" I found it very fun with the zero hassle it gives and just really lets players focus on progressing the story first and foremost.

Overall, Rage Burst is honestly just nothing short of being the perfect follow up to the first game and really solidified this franchise into being one of my all-time favorites. Took me 69 hours to finish the whole thing because it's chunkier than the first game even with all 3 arcs combined. I'd say skipping directly to Rage Burst is fine or maybe watch the anime as a substitute for the first game if you want some more context (it's a god tier adapt too). Looking forward to coming back to this after 3 and doing the endgame.

It's not surprising that Monster Hunter ate this series lunch but I do desire what this game delivers, which is a hunting game with a narrative to be invested in and characters to care about. The loop just wasn't satisfying enough. I could never get a grasp on what I was working towards in my personal arsenal. The area design was also pretty crumby.

I want to like this game, but it's just too repetitive (back-to-back story missions where you fight the same monster) and I don't quite love any of the weapons.

The story and characters are fun, but the gameplay is a slog, especially after having played God Eater 3 and newer Monster Hunter games.

Honestly my favorite one in the series

! MonsterHunter-like !

great sequel for the perfect game with some flaw but its still the masterpiece!!!

I know it's a hunting game but this has way too more content than actual good context. A lot of these missions are throwaway missions w/ the same mobs, just a different location.

Although this is a review for God Eater 2, it applies equally to every installment in the series. (Come to think of it, each sequel seems to be literally the exact same game re-released with a new story, tweaked graphics, some new character creator options and possibly other fringe additions.) The premise is you use oversized cosplay props to tickle dinosaurs until they melt.

Actually that is hyperbole. After creating my character, most of my time in the game was spent in the lobby and viewing cutscenes. What little hack and slash there is is incredibly mediocre. The weapons have no weight. The enemies do not react to your blows. They actually had the audacity to include a gun form as a momentary power-up state rather than a permanent option. So your reward for your mediocre hack-slashing is to be able to play a mediocre third person shooter, but only for a few seconds. You have the option of 8+ different elemental bullets, that all do the same damage, seemingly for the sake of convolusion.

Aside from slashing you can pick up glowy bits on the ground. You can get these from defeated monsters too. These probably don't do anything. They're just items/loot in the abstract. It's apparently a thing RPGs do nowadays, possibly out of laziness or whatever.

Good game, the fighting combat is similar to another game called Code Vein. overall tho its great game to delve into if you like your fighting game. Some levels can be annoying but other than that its a fantastic game to play, either solo or with a friend.

This is a review for both God Eater Resurrection and God Eater 2: Rage Burst because they are very similar games and the Steam version comes with both.
It's Monster Hunter, but anime. Also it's faster than MH, you are usually accompanied by 3 NPCs and often you must fight several medium or large aragami at once. Most missions are quite easy regardless and you are unlikely to feel challenged unless you go out of your way to not upgrade your equipment or try one of the most difficult challenge missions.
On that note the games can be quite grindy if you really want a certain piece of equipment, I just listen to something in the background while I play in those cases.
It's not hard to go from God Eater Resurrection to God Eater 2 Rage Burst and vice versa thanks to the retroactive improvements brought to the former for the definitive release, but I'd still recommend playing them in order because the tutorial in the second game is kinda anemic, I believe the developers expect players to play Resurrection first.
I've seen some people praise the story but I found it kinda cheesy and cliché ridden, it's hard for me to not see Alisa as a a discount Asuka and Ciel as a poor man's Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Not to mention Romeo, Gilbert and Julius are Kota, Soma and Lindow 2.0 respectively, a lot of themes and character traits are repeated in God Eater 2 and I think the first one did it better. However I do like that we actually have a reason to go around exterminating cool monsters instead of just doing it for sport.
Overall I found both games to be a positive experience and I'm glad I played them. They are kind of pricey for their age if you only want God Eater Resurrection or God Eater 2 Rage Burst , but they are great value together nonetheless.
By the way I hate Hibari in the first game, Jesus Christ she never stops screaming. That's the last thing I need when a mission goes south to help me calm down and assess the situation.

A bad Monster Hunter rip-off with better mechanics than God Eater Resurrection.

Very, very clanky. Is still a good game though.

Almost very good.
