Remember Jackal? Man, that game brought me right back to being a kid huddled around the NES. Crazy 8-bit soundtrack, blasting jeeps, rescuing POWs – it's pure old-school arcade chaos. A bit rough around the edges now, but still a blast if you're feeling nostalgic.

juego de aventura que me trae muchos recuerdos de la juventu.

This is the easiest scrolling retro shooter I have ever played, as evidenced by the fact that I actually beat it instead of lighting the game on fire during the first boss.

It's alright. It's definitely "good" for the time but - believe it or not - the NES top down shooter with 6 levels and full game overs in which you can do a full run in 30 minutes is slightly less exciting today.

Here?

This game is one of those hidden gems that I never heard of it until I was an adult. I had no friends that owned this game when I was kid and playing it today was really a blast.

First off, you are a soldier that is riding a jeep on enemy territory. Your job is to save your comrades in Vietnam. While the premise is really simple, the game is where all the enjoyment is.

Graphically, the game is good enough. You know what are the things on your screen, but they don't push it too hard. The bosses designs however are really well made. The game is still able to make you feel that you are in a warzone.

The Music is also really good. The songs are catchy and will be stuck in your head for a while after playing it.

The gameplay is also pretty simple : you can shoot bullet to the north or throw grenades in front of the jeep. You need to traverse the level, defeating enemies and survive. Your jeep is kind of weak and a simple hit will destroy your truck. This game has a lots of projectiles coming your way, so you need to dodge a lot of it.

During the levels, you can blow up some houses or depots. When doing so, you will free your comrades that were captured by the enemies. Your car can load as much people in it. It feels like the clowns car at the circus that they can enter infinite number of people. Some of them are flashing. If you let one of the flashy man enter your vehicle, your grenades will be upgrades to missile. After that, helping other flashy soldiers will widen the AoE of your missiles, making them stronger. You can drop all the recued soldier to an helicopter in the middle of the stage. Doing so will grant you a lots of pooints. It can even grants you more lives. You can also find some hidden items that can do multiple things depending of the color.

The bosses are really challenging and makes it really fun to go against. My only complaint is that one of the bosses is unrealistic when most of the game is in a realistic setting. The second boss is against 4 Medusa Head Status that throws missiles from their mouth.

The best part of this game is that you can play it in coop with another player. This makes the game so much fun. It's also not that long of a game to beat. However, when you are Game Over, you need to start from the beginning.

I would strongly recommend this game to any player that like light bullet hell and wants a short but fun experience.

Game # 43 of my challenge.

Jackal is one of those games I see from time to time. A lot of people seem to have fond memories of this game so I thought about giving it a go and yeah it's a nice top down game.

You drive a vehicle going through 6 areas fighting the enemy that are on foot or driving tanks. There's even other hazards like mines put in to stop you. You'll also have to save people in your army and get them to a chopper. You'll know if you did good depending on the end picture at the end of each stage though don't worry it won't affect the ending or anything.

The stages aren't the most interesting in the world but if there is one issue I have with the design of this game is it has the same problem Konami Wai Wai World had where you have to be too close to the screen to let it scroll leading to cheap hits. Otherwise it's some good fun with not really much issues.

The bosses are a decent challenge even if the final boss lasts a bit too long for my liking. The game will reset back to stage 1 once you win the game. It won't be too hard beating the game especially with practice and it can be beaten pretty quickly which is nice, I like games like that like Kirby's Dream Land.

The game graphically looks nice and the sound is your typical Konami goodness but for some reason I can't really hum much of the music, guess it didn't really stick with me.

This game is pretty cheap to get still and it's not going to blow you away but it's a good time. The game is also on the FDS in Japan as it lacked a normal Famicom cartridge release. It's not even close to being one of Konami's best but sometimes just having some short fun can be all you want. You can even do it with a friend if you so please. Fun for one and fun for two, man I miss when Konami did cool games.

Being the first and only person to log Jackal for the NES means I have complete control over its average rating. I can set the tone, make Jackal out to be a 5/5 classic, or a .5/5 travesty that would make Fester's Quest blush. I have all the power. Me.

It is in fact a little bit strange that nobody else has logged a rating for this game considering how short it is. Like, if you have 20 minutes to play a game you have enough time to play Jackal start to finish. It's not even particularly hard, as evidenced by Giant Bomb's This is the Run episode, where two certifiable chucklefucks were able to beat the game in only a couple of attempts.

However, Jackal makes up for its lack of quantity with plenty of quality. Players control a jeep and are tasked with rescuing POWs and transporting them to a helicopter. Of course this is an overhead run-and-gun, so you cause plenty of mayhem along the way. War is hell, and also a lot of fun. I think that's the moral of the story here.

Though I am tempted to abuse this opportunity and paint Jackal in an underserving light, I am too committed to telling my truth to stray from the path. This gets uhhh, a 4 out of 5. No, wait, 2 out of 5. Ehhhhhh, 3 out of 5. yeah that sounds about right. whatever

Absolutely in love with Jackal. It feels so good to rush your little tank through the environments turning, somewhat, on a dime just blowing everything up. Unfortunately, I'm just not very good at it! I'll continue to keep picking away it here and there and maybe one day everyone will get rescued on the helicopter, but today is just not that day.

5 star because of nostalgia

Played this with my grandparents as a child... bitter sweet memories now. Probably not as good as my ranking, but you know.

game has no jackals in it

I really good Konami game, not sure why people on the website dont like it??? Good music, controlls and graphics. 2 player co-op and fun overhead view gunning action. This game is nothing but a good time. Not too challenging but enough to make you want to keep playing. You have to have this in your collection.
