Great animations and graphics, but the game just becomes a bit repetitive after a while. Expected more to be honest.

Had my eyes on this since the PS showcase. It draws some mechanics from various well-established franchises, such as Uncharted for its yellow painting-led one-button climbing and Horizon for its stamina-free dodge, which are delivered in a safe package.

Importantly, don't be fooled by its family-friendly art style or its dreamy score; this game is tough as nails, but in a fun way, rewarding both skill and quick thinking, at least in a normal difficulty playthrough. In the NG+ Master Difficulty playthrough, things take a turn for the worse, and the game can become quite frustrating, with the protagonist feeling significantly underpowered.

Alongside the rewarding combat, the sound design is also particularly commendable, but there also are some questionable design choices, such as the use of the game currency that is only used for minor cosmetic changes. By the end of the game, I found myself with over 3000 of these Crystal, unsure of what to do with them.

Hey, if I say that this game has nothing else except its cutesie aesthetic, how will you defend it ?
Atleast for me, there isnt any defense, it is bland and boring, a slightly modified soulslike combat system and a generic boring save the world as the chosen one story that I just did not connect with.
I do not see much value in this game , there are better cutesie games like ori. There are better soulslike games like...well .. dark souls. Still if it really gelled together I would be appreciating it. Nioh is just a faster souls game in japan, overthrown by sekiro for most people. Yet, I loved it.
This doesnt work well enough for me to be even close to that. Very forgettable, very generic. Not very fun. Cannot recommend it with a good conscience.

It's hard to believe how such a small indie developer simply releases this masterpiece as their first game, WTF....I'm still speechless. What big studios fail at, Kena manages with ease: a likeable protagonist whose fate really gets to you, a beautifully designed world, great level design and, on top of that, challenging, really well designed and (almost) not unfair boss fights. I am blown away. The storyline is quite simple, but the "little" stories of the ghosts you accompany really touched me, every single one of them. I didn't think the game would get so close to me, but I was absolutely gripped by it. Just how great the game looks and how lovingly but also masterfully crafted the animations and cutscenes are, is unbelievably amazing. It feels a bit like the films Avatar and Princess Mononoke have been made into a Souls-like game, a dream come true for me. If I ever have a daughter, I really want to play this with her :)

i gave it a try because it looked disney like and the combat was superb

dropped after 4 hours

unbelievably generic in nearly all fronts like if you asked an ai to make a unimaginative fantasy game with the bored tired aesthetics of a 2011 Pixar movie. music innocent

Oh. My. God. What an amazing game. It's just had me by surprised. Everything about this game just speaks masterpiece to me. The story is very engaging and written so well. The graphics are top notch. The artstyle of this game is one of my favorites. Voice acting is incredible. Gameplay is on another level. It is very fun. I love how challenging it can get. The boss fights are incredible. Platforming is very good. I love the different rot abilities and powers. And the soundtrack. My god is it peak.

Overall, an amazing game that Ember Lab bring to us. You should definitely check it out and play it.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a great game, but with many reservations.
The supporting structure, based on the exploration of open maps full of collectibles, is valid and works: it's not innovative, it has the same gameplay depth as a game from 10 years ago, but it works all the same. And above all it entertains. You won't find difficult puzzles or who knows what gems, but there is no shortage of crossroads and the level design is quite complex.
The other pillar of the title is the combat system, which takes inspiration from From Software's masterpieces, to be adapted with some new elements. The action system does the bare minimum: it makes the fights playable. However, I found it boring and very slow, as did the enemies: the simple grunts are far too stupid, while the bosses are often unnecessarily frustrating and tough. There is a big imbalance in difficulty from this point of view.

The balance of the gameplay loop given by exploration, collectibles, and combat is unfortunately negative. Apart from a few new abilities, the flow of the game remains identical until the end, already starting to get boring after a couple of hours. There is no evolution in exploration, there is no variation in combat, nothing at all. Of course, my taste as a completionist has still made me appreciate collecting, but perhaps this is not enough.

The game also aims to be story-driven, but the story itself is very banal, albeit with an interesting underlying idea. I have to say that it didn't interest me in the slightest, in fact I was often almost tempted to skip the cutscenes. It didn't convey anything to me from this point of view. Note of demerit for the terrible English dubbing.

The absolute strong point of Kena, the only thing that struck everyone who saw the first trailer, is obviously the graphic aspect: the game world is beautiful, although there is very little variety between the areas, and the game is always a beauty for the eyes. The character design only works for the protagonist, while unfortunately the other characters have the same charismatic depth as a common background character from a Disney film.
One last word for the music: great.

I can't say I'll remember the game fondly, but it certainly didn't give me any unpleasant hours.

Didn't know it was that kind of game going in. Harder than I thought but a good experience overall. I really wanted to get Platinum trophy but to play a game on Master difficulty? You gotta be kidding me.

Ember Lab

indie incrível, 10/10 a gameplay, gráficos, game design, world building, narrativa, história, desenvolvimento e etc, jogo sensacional!!

Completed the first area. I stopped because it was beginning to feel like a chore.

a beautiful and challenging experience, although the animation is basically disney: the video game and the story is, for lack of a better word, uninspired. the cartoony artwork and simplistic script feels like it's designed for children but the difficult boss fights feel like they're made for adults, so it's a little hard to gather what the target audience is and how harshly i should be judging all the elements together.

If you ever watched a pixar movie and wished it was more interactable, this game is for you.

A very fun and pretty action-adventure-souls lite. A very enjoyable play.

Jogo lindo demais, me emocionei com a história. A gameplay apesar de simples, eu curti. Nunca esperaria gostar tanto desse jogo.

Disjointed experience.

I got major "too many cooks in the kitchen" vibes throughout the various aspects of the game. And then all the pieces didn't match up. The themes, art, vibes, pace, gameplay, collecting, controls, individual stories, exploring, level design etc etc... Just all felt foreign to each other and even themselves. The vast majority of the individual bits are amazing on their own, I particularly liked the themes and universe, but they all didn't gel. But even the theme/universe were hurt by the story flow, which felt like it culminated with the hammer lady rather than the finale. And didn't match the art direction at all.

The lowest point for me was the combat controls. I'm getting a little long in the tooth so trigger and bumper heavy stuff still doesn't click with me great. But I found certain moves and transitions to be incredibly unresponsive at the worst times. The hammer move being the standout. This frustration was compounded by some battles with horrible respawn points. I am not ashamed to say I killed the difficulty on some battles as to not have to go through the bad respawn sequences again.

I would most definitely play a sequel that was smoothed and fleshed out with more care. But I feel like there was already too much outside and inside interference in vision here that the whole barrel might be spoiled. Something(s) went wrong. Tons of charm and love still made it to the end product though. There's something here and I don't regret playing it to the end. I just don't think it came together.
