This game is so interestingly bad because there's some things I don't mind about it, like how it's a mobile game with only one currency for everything, the story was mostly interesting, and progression is remarkably simple. Still not saved from the fact that you have to leave your phone on for 50+ hours total having auto-battle run once you get a half decent deck built and buy a hundred or so charms. While I do think the story is very interesting, it does also feel very undercooked for most the cast, a lot of them not feeling like they have much to do, and very backloaded, a whole lot of nothing until the last third. On one hand I somewhat respect having the game playable in this offline state instead of making it a cutscene compilation, I'm always going to prefer playing things for myself to have a full opinion. At the same time nothing is really lost just by looking up some cutscenes if you just can't put in the time to leave your phone on for that long.

boring as fuck once again go watch a youtube video or summ

My distaste for mobile gacha games eclipses an otherwise decent- and important- story in the Kingdom Hearts saga.

I hate lazy mobile gatcha pay 2 win games and what's offensive is that this game probably has the most important lore in the whole series

For an entire saga that lasted for nearly 20 years, Master Xehanort and his many incarnations were the primary antagonists of the so-called Xehanort saga which consisted of every game in the series at that time up to Kingdom Hearts 3 with the exception of Union X & chi. One year after the finale of the Xehanort saga, Square Enix announces Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road. The game where will finally get to know more about the man, the myth, the legend Xehanort himself and how he came to be a villain. It sounds great but there is one major problem........its a mobile game.

I won't lie, despite thinking Union X was just average I did get some enjoyment out of it due to its story, PVP, and pulling for all the cool medals they added. While Dark Road has a decent story like Union X, it lacks a PVP mode and just feels more boring to play in general. One good thing Square Enix did with this game after they shut Union X down was remove the gacha mechanics and allow you to buy the cards without real money. It satisfies the collector's itch and it is good for picking the cards you need without having to gamble in-game currency or real money.

The gameplay is pretty simple. You form a deck of cards that consists of three types which include power, speed, and magic. In order to attack, heal, or do really anything, you swipe your screen and try to match three cards of the same type to make your attacks or other moves slightly stronger. When you run out of cards you reload by tapping your screen as much as you can. This is pretty much all you'll be doing for the 20+ hours it takes to complete the game. There is an auto button where the game can play itself automatically. It does help in making the grind necessary to get a good deck and beat the game slightly more bearable, but ultimately I was bored for pretty much the whole experience.

It was nice to know more about Xehanort's past and get more Kingdom Hearts lore, but I wish they released this on consoles & PC. Hopefully, Kingdom Hearts Dark Road will get a Re:Dark Road or a movie like chi did in the future, but for now this is the only version we have. Xehanort deserved better than this.

Auto-battle nonsense game which, like all of these, draws out a fairly unnecessary story over an excruciating amount of time. You can tell exactly when the decision came down to stop supporting KH:UX because suddenly the pace accelerates to a somewhat acceptable level.

Even as a KH fan trying to keep track of all this shit, seriously, you just do not need this. It's more of a Coded than a Union Cross. Even if these characters show up later, they will be strangers to Sora and you will be introduced to them. You can just read about them on a wiki if you're that curious.

Dark Road was a nice change of pace in the Kingdom Hearts series, as we go back into the past 75 years before the events of KH1 even happened, to see the roots of Xehanort and how he went down the path to darkness.

Gameplay wise, they kinda reminded me of the battle minigame - Flick Rush from DDD, but minus the values and being genuine battles in card form. It got fun for like the first 5 minutes before going through this numerous times and stopped to go on YouTube and look at the story.

Cutscene wise, this story was good but it wasn't as great as Union X in my eyes. I liked the relationship between Xehanort and Eraqus back when they were both classmates and friends, however the side characters this time around felt like they didn't need to be important. Urd was my favourite as she was super cute. Not much to say with this one, other than that finale was awesome and that I still don't sympathise with Xehanort.

Storywise, A good story about Xehanort and the path that lead him to darkness. Doesn't entirely sympathize him, but gives him depth.

GAMEPLAY WISE, horrible fucking idle game that makes you leave your phone on overnight to have a chance against the 100+ missions. i cant imagine how bad this was when it was online and you had to PAY and roll with MONEY. awful game

fuck you.

I'd give it 2 starts because the gameplay is meh but the story is so good I'll give it 2 and a half xd

The 13th game in this 20 years old franchise.

Kingdom hearts dark road takes us in the past following the steps of one of its main antagonist. I had good expectations and I’m glad that the game delivered on the story at least. It being a mobile game doesn’t live much to say about. Very repetitive, limited and can feel grindy at some times. The auto feature is a good way to avoid too much boredom. You literally let the game play for you.

With all that being said, I think the story was worth the trouble. Some of the best writing we’ve seen in this franchise. Giving us a better understanding of how Xehanort (and Eraqus) grew up to be who they become.

I strongly recommend to at the very least watch a cutscenes compilation if you are not willing to put the time in it.

Graphismes : 3/5 On est sur un jeu totalement un 2D et donc assez loin de ce dont on a l'habitude avec la sérié kh. Cependant les décors sont variés, et les chara design étayés, ce qui est donc déjà très bien;

Another mobile KH game with amazing lore & characters, but it's still a victim of being a game trapped on a phone & not being all that interesting to actually play. Still, I appreciate it for fleshing out Xehanort & not being a gacha so I'll give it that. I at least hope that Square gives us a HD movie in a future collection or a console remake before the next arc ends

you guys know xehanort was young once? crazy. ill be sure to edit this review when the last episode reveals that he had a pet cat or something stupid like that

This game is present purely for story but unlike UX you can just turn on auto and do other things so that's a major improvement already.

Great story delving into the people Xehanort and Eraqus were before the events of the series. The rest of the classroom and the cast being a delight to see
Fun gameplay tbh just an extreme amount of grinding is needed so its best to just buy a ton of revival items and have the game do it for you
Also just buy the best cards

I actually managed to finish this once, unlike X/Unchained/Union Cross. Story is ok. The game has play by itself (auto mode left during the whole night for grind/farming, yes) if you want real progresses, so you can already imagine what kind of garbage is.

This shit is not worth the tedium of grinding, it's worse than an NES JRPG. Just watch the cutscenes online, the gameplay adds nothing to the experience.

the story was really good but I just watched the cutscenes because I can't deal with the gameplay

TA DEMORANDO MAS ALGUM DIA EU ACABO

Put this in a room with dream drop distance and let them fight to the death over which ones the gayest kh game

since I basically played every single kingdom hearts game out there I wanted to check dark road out since a friend told me its good

disclaimer: I haven't played the game itself I watched the cutscene compilation because I have absolutely no desire or will to play a gacha (?) free to play (?) game (?) on my phone (?) just for some xehanort context so this will be entirely about the story

as a game this plays exactly like union x since its probably just the same engine and that's it the character sprites are super cute did you see eraqus eraqus please im free on saturday if you wanna hang our or train in keyblade art or just fuck

as for the story this is basically the young life of xehanort and eraqus training as keyblade wielders in scala ad caelum (one of the best original kingdom hearts worlds if I can say that in this meeting like every time I think about scala ad caelum in kingdom hearts 3 I need to change my underwear) with some super random and spin offish new characters that should actually add to the lore somehow but are just some excuses for character development but that's not what I care about im here for the xehanort x eraqus stuff I'm here for the naughty BL seme uke interactions and unbeknownst to me I got nothing regarding that

as I was saying there's lot of side characters which should actually be the main cast but fall somehow flat in comparison to the kissy kissy duo maybe they're developed further during gameplay but in the cutscenes they're not that deep what I will say tho is that vor is super cute and I love her and that baldr is kinda hot how does he do that to be honest

I wanted to base myself on the wiki page to talk about this but its extensively long and I have no recollection of this game whatsoever so all you need to know is that xehanort and friends travel through different worlds to discover where the missing upper-class men went and then slowly and steadily for reasons I cant disclose without a spoiler marker xehanort will begin to give himself to darkness and thats basically the main gist of the story

there's some nice callbacks and foreshadowing here and there for past and future events and the final revelation was actually big for me at least so kudos to them

realistically this all happens after union x and has some loose threads connecting the 2 games but the truth is that I didnt understand any part of the story beats in this game the real truth is then that the only thing I understood from all these events is that xehanort became evil because of XXXXXX and thats probably the main thing theyre gonna explore in the next titles (or maybe completely forget its up to them)

I watched the cutscenes for a period of time of months because I would put the video and fall asleep after like 20 minutes of story so there's that I would say union x is indefinitely better than this but I will give this the same rating because I did enjoy both of them without playing the fucking game so that saved this game for a awful rating

maybe I am finally done with kingdom hearts I should finish 358/2 days but im taking my damn time to finish that one soooooo let's say I'm done with kingdom hearts for now kisses

the cover art is very cool by the way like xehanort on the throne big dick is back in town oh also yeah young xehanort and young eraqus are super hot did I already say that I think its pretty obvious

Watch a cutscene compilation. I promise you are missing NOTHING by not playing this yourself

Great story, specially for KH fans, but the grinding of the game is waaay too steep, even though it's an offline game and has no micro-transactions as of now. Still, there's auto battle so you wont' be losing a great time yourself through the grinding, so it's just a few battles with stories, and some extra steps.

incrível, fez o xehanort deixar de ser apenas um vilão e virar um personagem muito bom, além amarrar algumas pontas soltas da história e responder algumas perguntas.

This review contains spoilers

mid mobile game at the start with pure kinography for an ending. gameplay is shit but got DAMN if the story near the end didnt have me screaming every 5 minutes. the baldr twist was so fucking cool. nomura continues to deliver peak fiction.

rating: 11 dead kids / 10

xehaqus are literally kissing

Mobile trash that requires I load up Union X to get currency, but I don't have to actively play this one which makes it slightly better.
