diane makepeace i wish i could've seen more of you

Most fun misrepresentation of DID I've every played

Fuuuuuuuuck yeah 🤘🤘🤘

I dunno, it's got a bit of personality in it to make for a charming experience but the biggest problem is that it has nothing to do with Layton and just has the name on it to push sales, it's especially jarring when it plays more like a bootleg Ace Attorney. There's worse purchases on the app store but you're not missing out on much.

More than half of the cases were uninteresting/boring to me, I have to admit that it's always better than whatever Katrielle was about but I feel like we're missing a good chunk of the game, it ended with a big cliffhanger that... never resulted in anything. Probably because the game was a flop, like Katrielle again.

I just wish Level 5 tried to flesh out its already existing characters instead of giving a hundred childrens to Hershel (and he seems to not even care about them, which is very OOC for me.), like, Flora is here !! And she perhaps needs a game to flesh out her character a bit more !

Oh and I guess Diane Makepeace is really pretty. Most of the other characters are very well designed too, the soundtrack is also amazing and the 2d visuals are great.

REALLY loved this charming little mystery game, very clearly more AA inspired than Layton inspired but it's so nice. very cozy murder mystery with great writing and characters. not a big fan of the split personality trope, and not sure how tastefully handled it is (but wouldn't be surprised if it's agreed that it's not), but otherwise, I simply adored this a lot

Sequel When?

Just before the release of the final Layton game, The Azran Legacy, Level-5 tried their hand at entering the mobile market. Instead of bringing the main series over, however, something they would only do several years later a spin-off was created in the form of Layton Brothers: Mystery Room.

Well, more or less. Mystery Room wasn't conceived as a Layton game, it was instead meant to be an entirely separate investigation series. Level-5 went quiet about this game after its announcement, and then it resurfaced after over a year, rebranded as Layton Brothers: Mystery Room. And you can kind of feel how the Layton brand was shoehorned into this: the only relation it has to the Layton series is that one of the protagonists, Alfendi Layton, is supposed to be Hershel's son, but other than that, it features mechanics and stories entirely separate from those in the good professor's games.

As the game begins, Lucy Baker joins Scotland Yard as a detective. Her job is to assist renowned investigator Alfendi Layton in solving murder cases that get sent to the ward. In time, Lucy begins to realize that there is more to her colleague than meets the eye. The story is split into an intro plus nine cases, some of which are interlinked and form a larger plot. In each case, data about the murder is brought to Lucy and Alfendi along with profiles of its suspects, and the two set out to investigate and try to pin one of the suspects.

The game plays closer to something like Ace Attorney than Layton. Every case begins with the circumstances of the crime being made known, followed by Lucy and Alfendi inspecting the crime scene for every piece of evidence they can find. There's mostly only one room to investigate in the entire case, though, you don't get to move between various locations like Phoenix does, which makes it a more casual experience than AA, for good and for bad. It's fitting for a mobile game, where you go and play a game when you have time to kill, but it's also not as memorable as other similar titles.

The case is laid out as a series of questions that need to be answered by the player either through evidence and/or statements from the people present at the time of the crime. Once each of these questions has been answered and the suspect has been narrowed down, the detectives call over the person whodunnit to finally get their confession.

Overall, Mystery Room is far from an unmissable part of the Layton series, but it’s an enjoyable detective romp, and I figure the only major problem is that it goes out with a whimper. The last couple of cases are meant to be the highest point of the story, but they are by far the worst of the bunch. The central issue is that they revolve around events that happened so far in Alfendi's past that it feels like you're grasping at straws for two entire cases. The writers really wrote themselves into a corner with this ending.

Pretty cool Ace-attorney-em-up. Alfendi is a much more exciting successor to Layton than Kat.

Only finished the free chapters.

i cant lie, i am in love with this game. i don’t think i’ve ever been so in love with a goddamn mobile game, or hell very few games in general. the last case still fucks me up to this day and i’ve played this goddamn game like six times. the music slaps, the stupid pun names slap, alfendi is such an interesting character, it’s just So Good. is it as good as the rest of the professor layton series? well no. but it still gets five stars for being the actual best mobile game i’ve ever played by Far.

about as good as you can expect an ios spinoff they go out of their way not to acknowledge anymore to be

Actually refreshing for a mobile game when it came out in 2012. Music is really what is amazing about this game

This game was such a fresh addition to the Layton series with some really interesting elements of gameplay from games like Ace Attorney or even Danganronpa. Lucy and Alfendi are such great characters and work really well off of each other, and I hope that they do something with them again soon. I’ll always remember how tense I felt during that last chapter. Chills!

i wasn't expecting it to be very good since it's just a mobile game, but it was surprisingly fun! the main characters were great and i love them <3 also the music is really good!!! why is the music so good!!!

it's a little easy at times, especially since there's no punishment for getting things wrong, but i don't think i entirely mind that. it makes this game feel more chill to me because i hate getting things wrong in games so bad.

alfendi layton if you see this i love you

i am the best detective geinius and alfendi gives me all thumbs ups always because i never get any suspect guesses wrong ishould be the only detective at the scotland yard

okay yeah no this one is just a heavy bias i love these idiots

they didn't say it ingame but i was the woman layton slept with to make alfendi just trust me

Was pretty solid for its time. I recommend playing the main Layton games, though. The charm in this game is infinitesimal compared to even Curious Village

Pretty good Layton game with great characters and an outstanding finale. The dialogue is also as fun as Lucy is cute and Alfendi keeping everyone on their toes. The hidden one of the Layton canon, but what you'll find here is pretty compelling!

Layton Brothers is the first in what I like to call the sequel series to the main Professor Layton series proper. And does this child live up to the legacy of its father series? In my opinion, yes, but I can see why some would disagree. A big part of my enjoyment of the original Layton series for me was the story, characters, and music, not so much the puzzles. The puzzles were certainly fun and memorable, but my main take away from the series wasn't really the gameplay, so that's why I was glad to start this game which has a refreshing take on the world of Layton, with the same exaggerated art style, larger than life characters, and great music (although the music has shifted from the Musette style we have become accustom to for more uptempo jazz.) Even characters that only appear for a single chapter in this game are very memorable thanks to their designs and well defined personalities. But I digress; the gameplay instead of being strictly puzzle focused, is instead a crime scene investigation style of game where you gather clues to help persecute a criminal out of a lineup of suspects. So there is still puzzle solving to some regard in this game, but just a very different style. I feel like this genre change is, or rather I should say was a great direction to take the series into. The story this time around is much darker than what we are used to with the Layton series as you play as Alfendi Layton, and assistant Lucy Baker who both work in the "Mystery Room" department of the Scotland Yard. The titular Mystery Room is where special cases that normal detectives couldn't figure out get taken, so it is brought to Layton who has has a split personality, where one half is timid and kind hearted, while the other is sinister, and has the mind of a killer. With this pairing of personalities Layton is able to understand the minds of the killers he confronts while being able to persecute them for their crimes. This game deals with a lot of blood, and gore, with some very twisted characters you encounter which is a series first for games that are typically more whimsical and light hearted. Unfortunately however after this game was completed it seem like there was no real attempt to keep the story of Alfendi Layton, and Lucy Baker going, despite the game leaving the door open for sequels. No, instead we got the contentious "Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy" and the subsequent anime that accompanied it staring Professor Layton's daughter, and Alfendi's Sister, Katrielle. Fortunately it seems like level5 hasn't forgotten the characters as they appear for a very brief cameo in the final episode of the anime. Overall this game is an excellent experience, and great addition to the world of Layton and it's actually a crime this game is locked behind mobile, as I feel this game would do really well if it was ported to something like the switch. The game's mix of zany characters with the lite Phoenix Wright style gameplay ought to find it's audience on a platform as wide as the switch. But alas, with the closing of Level5's studios in America, I feel like this dream is more dead than some of the cadavers you investigate in this game, which is very truly sad. I highly recommend checking this game out while you can, before it becomes phased out of later iOS or android updates like many mobile games before it have.

Laytono Brothers is a decent game. Yes it may be weak compared to other installments, but its still fine.

My main issue with the game is how repetitive it is. Same storyline, same boring investigation outline, and wow what a surprising twist!! this game had a lot of potential with its idea, its just not executed well. But if im being honest, the last 3 cases more than made up for all the flaws.

Overall, id only recommend this if youre really into the layton series. other than that, just skip it. 3.5/5, 7.5/10

A delightful very charming experience, not much of a challenge but a nice introduction to the detective genre for a younger audience. Can still be enjoyed by people of all ages due to its amazing presentation and cast of characters
