(This review is for Blaze Black 2 Redux)

Again, this is the fourth Pokémon game I've reviewed in the last ~45 days, and the third difficulty hack - this is basically just Pokémon with my two least favorite aspects, low difficulty and team restriction, removed.

10/10
Game #24 of 2024, April 17th

couldnt do postgame since my shit corrupted but other than that very fun :)

note: i did a challenge mode soul link for my playthrough.
the revisions done to gameplay systems are very refreshing, enabling some crazy strategies. while most of the trainer fights are easy, some encounters feel like legitimate boss fights, forcing me to continuously swap out my team and adapt/experiment with new pokemon.

So like, I get it, I don't actually think it's WRONG that it's like this, but it's so funny that all of these are listed separately on here with completely different sets of reviews:
- Pokemon Black Version 2
- Pokemon White Version 2
- Pokemon Blaze Black 2
- Pokemon Volt White 2
- Pokemon Blaze Black 2 Redux
- Pokemon Volt White 2 Redux
- Every other romhack for every other pokemon game, each of which already has two barely-different official versions which are also already listed separately from each other

Video games are fun and interesting. Anyway, I am playing this.

- Rapolza, a Ninetales
- Cebolão, o Venusaur
- Minhoco, o Dragonite
- Fosmiga, a Flygon
- Sapão, o Swampert

E mais os estimados Porco (Emboar) e Samambaia (Bellsprout) que ficaram no banco de reservas.

Foi meu primeiro jogo no Deck! Já estou apaixonado.

Always a good time playing a Drayano hack, I went through on normal difficulty and had a really good time. I really like how Pokemon are rebalanced so the typically terrible ones can fulfill at least some role, I even had a Ledian for a couple gyms. The ease of EV training is also a great boon, for more difficult hacks many people are almost always going to choose to grind those out, so making it very accessible seems like the right choice to me.

Maybe it was just a function of how my team was built, but for me the weather trainers in Victory Road took a lot more strategy to beat than the Elite 4 which felt a little wonky to me.
My final team was: Samurott, Porygon-Z, Jumpluff, Aggron, Flygon, and Rapidash

his original blaze black 2 was attack of the clones, and this is the better star wars movie. I have not watched star wars.

Great romhack, makes Blaze Black 2 look like Black 2.

I loved this game. I think Blaze Black 2 Redux really adds some great quality of life changes and I love the minor story changes.

This hack makes every pokemon up to gen 5 catchable which is pretty cool for team diversity. It also has some quality of life changes by spreading competitive items throughout the map and having an EV training NPC.
Now the problem I have with this game is that it gives way too many Pokémon to the common route trainers. Pokemon black and white 2 have the most trainers out of any mainline pokémon game, so giving every trainer 3+ pokémon makes it a fucking drag to progress. Another issue is that there are too many triple and double battles. Some may think it adds challenge to the game, keeps you on your toes and makes you use different strategies. But that's not the case, it's still fucking easy to beat these double or triple battles, I just don't wanna do them though because I find them less interesting.
I liked this game but it made me realise the amount of flaws there are in a pokémon game, flaws that don't just affect this game but just about all of them.

The gen 5 pokemon games are some of my favorites from a pure gameplay perspective but this blows the originals out of the fucking water.
Shoutouts to my homies Yogs the Serperior, Sanji the Blaziken, Marowak, Metagross, Staraptor, and Ampharos

Peak mainline Pokemon. Difficulty hacks by Drayano are definitely the best way to play pokemon, and tuning up a Drayano hack to make it even better is a great next step. This is the best mainline pokemon title enhanced by fans, absolutely great time.

(please disregard how long the playthrough took i just kinda suck at focusing on stuff sometimes. also i played volt white 2 redux but that's not on backloggd)

Yeah, it's a very good ROM hack of one of my favorite games. It's a very different experience from the base game; even on Normal Mode (that's how I played it), you need to plan for several fights throughout the game so you don't get your ass kicked. Thankfully, there are many ways to go about this thanks to the sheer variety of Pokemon available (You'll be able to get most of the 649 Gen 1-5 Pokemon before the E4). Also, many of those Pokemon have some pretty interesting changes/buffs, such as Flygon becoming a Bug/Dragon-type pseudo-legend and Fan Rotom getting the ability Speed Boost instead of the redundant Levitate. I highly recommend this to any Pokemon fan looking for a fun challenge.

Also, although I used several different Pokemon throughout the playthrough, I'm going to list my hall of fame team here (I'll probably do this for any other Pokemon games I log too):
- The Rot (Shiny Samurott, lv. 77): Surf, Shell Smash, Close Combat, Ice Beam
- The Drill (Excadrill, lv. 77): Rock Climb, Earthquake, Brick Break, Smart Strike
- The Goth (Gothitelle, lv. 77): Calm Mind, Dark Pulse, Psychic, Thunderbolt
- The Tom (Shiny Fan Rotom, lv. 77): Nasty Plot, Thunderbolt, Air Slash, Stored Power
- The Gon (Porygon2, lv. 77): Tri Attack, Nasty Plot, Recover, Ice Beam
- The Tan (Darmanitan, lv. 77): Lunge, Strength, Flame Wheel, Flare Blitz
