The Brian Griffin of video games; a game that WANTS you to believe it's clever and deep, but is really as shallow as it is pretentious

Every mission starts with some asshole dressed as the year 2002 rambling two paragraphs of shit like "to do a fakie pressure flip just place your front foot perpendicular to your back foot mid pop while doing a switch 360 laserflip into nose manual 5-0 darkside". But then you look at the controls menu and it's just two analogue stick flicks, the mission's over in 30 seconds. JUST GIVE ME THE BUTTON PROMPTS WHAT WAS THAT OTHER SHIT, I'LL PUT FAKIE PRESSURE ON YOUR THROAT

THAT IS IF THE GAME REGISTERS YOU COMPLETING THE MISSION. Half of my time with this game was spent doing an objective ten times, wondering why it's not registering, watching a YouTube video of them doing the exact same thing I did, then reading a comment saying "ah yeah, you just have to ollie slightly earlier than the in-game parameters tell you to, I got it to work on my 50th attempt".

"The game is hard because of the controls". EVERY review mentions this. The game itself says this, PROUDLY stating so in the controls menu. But that's the issue. The level design, mission design, all of the DESIGN is easy. The ONLY difficulty comes from fighting the controls. And when a game is ONLY difficult because of the controls, the game isn't challenging, it's unintuitive. Barely anyone has played this game because no one can find it, because it's completely disappeared up its own ass

AND WHAT THE FUCK IS THE CHARACTER CUSTOMISATION. DO I WANT A BLACK T-SHIRT WITH SOME SHITTY SHOE BRAND LOGO... OR A BLACK T-SHIRT WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SHITTY SHOE BRAND LOGO. I JUST WANT AN ORANGE JACKET THIS IS SHIT. HOW YOU GONNA HAVE "EXPRESS YOURSELF" AS ONE OF THE GAME'S TAGLINES THEN GIVE ME AS MANY CLOTHES OPTIONS AS MY HIGH SCHOOL DRESS CODE.

YOU CAN'T EVEN CHANGE HAIR COLOUR. DO I WANT DECENT HAIR BUT IT'S BLOND, OR MY ACTUAL BRUNETTE COLOUR BUT WITH A BUZZCUT DONE BY A BLIND GUY MID SEIZURE. DEAR SLIM, I WROTE YOU BECAUSE I'M FUCKING BLOND NOW.

im sure i could have fun with this if i could be fucked to put time into making it feel natural! i need button mashing skating, unfortunately.

Really wanted to like this but the control scheme is more complicated than it needs to be and the vibe of the game just felt very lifeless.

Close to being like Skate 3 but not

the game looks unfinished (extremely colorless and genuinely so ugly it hurts) and has one of the worst possible controls considering the fluidity premise

I just can't with these controllers man not for me

On the sim to arcade scale, this is the most sim skateboarding game I think has ever been made. Not for me, if that sounds like its for you... I mean go nuts with it lol.

Decent skate sim, lotta ways to make the game more realistic/difficult but at that point just skate irl lol

LE MEILLEUR JEU DE SKATEBOARD AHOUUUUU

Session: Skate Sim
Session: Skate Sim is an amazing skateboarding simulator. It's very easy to get lost in the world and just play for hours. It's easy to play, graphically stunning and an amazing skating journey awaits with this game!

Pros:
✅ Amazing story
✅ A variety of difficulties
✅ Simple Controls
✅ Fun gameplay
✅ Moddable
✅ Amazing Replay mode

Cons:
⛔️ There are some bugs and glitches but they don't happen a lot.

Gameplay:
The gameplay involves a lot of different elements. Skating, Walking and Replay Mode are three of the major elements in there.

Skating:
The skating is quite easy to pick up and has many ways to customise how easy it is or how realistic it is. Sometimes you may encounter a bug or two but the majority of the time you will be completely fine. There is a whole load of tricks you can do in this game and so many different ways to do them fakie, switch, nollie etc. Theres an advanced options section where you can control gravity, push speed, low pop hight, high pop hight, max speed, flip speed, scoop speed and much more.

Off board:
There's not too much to do in off board mode, you can walk run jump and use the object mode. You can get on and off your skateboard by pressing Y on xbox or triangle on playstation. You can use object mode by pressing LB (left button) but you have to be off your board to do so. There's more about object mode below.

Object Mode:
You can use object mode by pressing LB (left button) but you have to be off your board to do so. There's tons of Objects you can buy at the skate shops (more info on skate shops below). You can place rotate and edit Misc items, Ramps and rails. There's tons of cool spots you can make with just the object mode and I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

Skate shops:
There is 3 skate shops in session 1 in each city. You can buy many decks, board rails, riser pads, trucks, wheels, ramps, rails and clothing items. There's many actual skate brands like santa cruz, welcome etc.

Music and Sound
The music playlist is amazing. Board Sounds, rail sounds and all the different surfaces have different sounds. You can tell the developers care about the sound in the game because it is just amazing.

The game does have a few bugs and glitches but so does every game. The main bugs are some story mode missions need you to switch stance to goofy or regular. Sometimes you'll need to go to your marker twice as the first time your player is bugged and cant move. But really these are small inconveniences that wont really affect the whole gameplay.

Conclusion:
Session: Skate Sim is a overall good game with a nice community and I think you should just give it a go. If you end up not liking it (I'm 99% sure you will), Give it a review on steam and say why you don't like it. But what I can say is I've enjoyed it and I think you will too! Unless your not into skateboarding simulators? Which is weird because your reading this review on a skating game.

A very unique control scheme for controlling a skateboard attached to what can only be described as a shell of a video game.

It is a decent simulator, but a very shitty video game. The UI, the sound design and the soundtrack are absolute shit lol.

Don't get me started with character customisation lmao.

It's an okay replacement for EA Skate on newer consoles. I'm having fun with it free roaming and the "missions" are fun as well. I just think people that have no knowledge of skateboarding or any experience with the EA Skate franchise will have a very hard time getting into this game.

Pro Tip: Make yourself a playlist on AM or Spotify for this game and play this instead of the soundtrack. It makes the experience 100% better.

honestly pretty sick. the gameplay is satisfying, and im not the type to get frustrated by a game like this so that's not a problem. one critique would have to be the inflexible camera adjustment, i want it to go way higher so i can see over my skater and see what's in front of me. but i'll have to just settle for putting the camera to the side.

1.0 released but it still feels like early access game.

These controls just ain't it.

Not skate 3. Turning weird. Promising if can get over learning curve with controls

Bah c'est bien, ça détend et c'est tout ce que je demande. Enfin je demanderai quand même un nouveau jeu Skate.

In terms of skating games with more realistic controls, this one has to be my favorite. One of my top games to play when I just want to relax and enjoy the flow. Time logged is how long it took me to beat all the missions and a good portion of challenges along with a ton of free skate time.

fantastic game to scratch a skate-type itch, but gets marred by it's own jank a bit too often. the control scheme is hard to get around for the first few hours but ends up being extremely rewarding for doing even the most basic lines, with unfortunately some issues with it's physics

the inclusion of missions is great as well but the need to do specific tricks in each makes it far less creative than other skating games and the trick guide can sometimes not read well as to how exactly you're supposed to do a trick

overall still very fun but mainly for those who want to stick with it

I love to just boot up this game and skate for just a few minutes or hours while listening to music.

The game almost seems impossible to play when you first start but the more time you get with, the easier it gets. There’s a big learning curve but it’s rewarding once you master it. There are still plenty of problems which include glitched quests, tricks not registering correctly, and so on.

There’s definitely more content than before but the quests result In a lot of “go find this person, do a manual and flip out, great here’s $200”. I still enjoyed my experience with the game but I know there are going to be some people who are going to play for an hour and give up.

Session is one step forward and two steps back. It's probably the most realistic skateboarding game available and if you're looking for that, it's great. Challenging, but satisfying once you start to get the hang of it all. Plenty of great spots to hit up and options to adjust for your preferred skating experience. That being said though, this game is still a work in progress despite hitting 1.0. A lot of core features are still marked as experimental or just gone (RIP Grabs) and a lot of the overall presentation feels extremely early. It can be so much more, but with such a small team, somethings have to wait. I have faith though.

I bought this game in early access and outright, I don't recommend it. There's 0 excuse for bugs coming back that were fixed in the EA, there's no excuse for how buggy and unfinished it is at launch. A bit upsetting considering I was so excited.

The most realistic skateboarding game to date. Like its name suggests, Session is part simulator, part game. Unlike other skating games, some basic technical knowledge of skating (or at least a willingness to learn) is preferred here if you want to progress through all the missions.

The controls and difficulty are likely to turn off many players. Turning is done with the triggers, not a joystick. Those who have the patience for it will be rewarded over time, as the game feels great once you get the hang of it. There are also a lot of settings that can be tweaked to make it easier if preferred.

Along with controls, the revelation in Session is the cities. No skating game has ever had maps that look and feel this realistic. The day/night cycle and cloud coverage also add a lot to the atmosphere.

Despite looking like a triple-A game, Session was made by a small team, and it shows at times. There is some jank and bugginess, as well as experimental features that the team is still working on. I imagine some of this stuff will be cleaned up eventually, but it's hard to say how much the game will improve going forward. It's also worth noting vert skating is absent from the game.

For skateboarders or people who have more than a passing interest in skateboarding, there is a lot to like here, and I'm excited to see what updates the game brings in the future.

very fun despite still being in early access.

BUT
i'm begging you crea-ture Studios please hire me i will make and add clothes to the game that don't suck, the game is great but the character customisation aspect is terrible
