Security system TAKES CONTROL OF SQUIDWARD'S HOUSE and begins ATTACKING THE CITY, leaving the mayor to give Squidward community service for the damage he caused, EVEN THOUGH Spongebob and Patrick were in his house the WHOLE FUCKING TIME, and were responsible for EVERYTHING! GAAH! FUCK THIS EPISODE! This episode is when the Squidward torture porn started to become a regular staple in Spongebob's episodes and this one is one of the meanest, cruelest, and just plain unfair of them all. All Squidward wanted to do is enjoy one day to himself, but that can NEVER HAPPEN when he lives next to Spongebob and Patrick, can it?
Only recently discovered there was a remaster and I'm kind of excited to play it. It's the only Spongebob game I played so it's hard to compare it to others but an open world adventure in Bikini Bottom always seemed like the best way to go with something like this.
Not actually my second playthrough but whatever.
I don't care if this game might not objectively be a 5/5, it is to me DAMMIT!
3D platformers are probably my favorite genre, and SpongeBob was one of my favorite childhood shows and the first three seasons still rank among my favorite shows of all time, so if you put those together, you get one of my favorite games.
This is a game I am hugely nostalgic for, along with several other PS2 games that I still play today. So when I heard they were remaking it, I was excited and it's tied with Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga for my most anticipated game ever.
Since Rehydrated is coming out in a week, I decided to play through this game again to see how well Rehydrated compares, and to educate myself before playing it, so I booted up PCSX2 because my PS2 doesn't work so here we go.
The plot can be summed up like this: Plankton creates evil robots, SpongeBob and his friends have to stop them. That's it, that's all you get for plot, but I'm fine with that because something like SpongeBob doesn't need a deep plot or anything.
The gameplay is your typical 3D gameplay, you have the hub world to explore, you have your basic platformer moves: double jump, ground pound, etc. And you have to go around collecting things, which in this game's case is Patrick's dirty socks that you give to him to get golden spatulas, which are like Mario 64's power stars.
Not only do you get to play as SpongeBob, but you can also play as Patrick and Sandy, who have special moves of their own: Patrick can throw things and Sandy can glide with her lasso.
God, I'm sounding like an instruction manual.
The graphics are good, I mean they look like PS2 graphics because they are but they're still good.
Levels are all good, my favorite is probably SpongeBob's Dream or Sand Mountain. Some others I like are Goo Lagoon, Rock Bottom (mostly for the atmosphere), and Jellyfish Fields.
My least favorite level would be Kelp Forest but mostly because of how hard to see it is, but it looks like Rehydrated will fix that. Love the music in that level though. I really like a lot of this game's music.
Least that slide wasn't as painful this playthrough, nor was the rolling ball challenge in the Mermalair.
I don't really have that many issues with this game, sometimes the game can be a bit frustrating.
It's very obvious that Mr. Krabs and Mermaid Man are not voiced by Clancy Brown and Ernest Borgnine, which kinda sucks, as they could get Tim Conway but not Ernest Borgnine. And why wasn't Clancy Brown here either?
Dated? Yeah, but still a ton of fun. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom still remains one of my favorite games of all time after 9 years and I can not wait for Rehydrated.
This game was practically a piece of my childhood. I've played it almost all the time, I would even dig up my old PS2 just so I can play the game again. I don't have the console anymore, but I am excited for the remaster coming this month. Out of all the spongebob games to come out nowadays, this one has to be the best one ever made.
Its a shame that they never got the voice of Mermaid Man or Mr. Krabs in the game. I can understand Mermaid Man but was Clancy Brown not available at the time?
it has its moments of frustration for sure, but this is still one of my favorite games of all time. the controls are rock solid, almost every mission is enjoyable in some way, the music bops and it generally oozes cartoonish flair at every turn
Fun until it isn’t. I gotta say, as far as licensed games go, this is one of the best. The attention to detail in creating the look and feel of the show is incredible, and it manages to be a really fun platformer on top of that.
However, the final mission to this game is just too frustrating and annoying. I have no desire to continue trying to beat it if all it does is anger and annoy me. It sucks because I want to give this game a better score and officially beat it, but that final bit just leaves too bitter a taste for me to consider it.
I’m curious to see if the remake/remaster fixes a lot of the more frustrating bugs in this, but it’ll be a while before I play that. Overall I’m just sad because I feel like this game beat me when I should’ve beaten it.
