A pretty divisive SF game, but for good reason.
To start with the good the sprite work for this game is pretty damn good and gameplay wise I do like it, but in terms of the roster it suffers quite a bit.
Judging from the title it sounds like they were maybe thinking of going down the succession route which coming off one of the most most iconic fighting games of all time is in my opinion a bad move, which even then they didn't fill commit to and some characters feel like older characters redone.
I played as Elena.

this is going to get me my fighting game license revoked but I don't really vibe with SF3 all too much. While I respect the decision to make a full roster refresh, the new characters don't really vibe with me the same way that like the sf alpha gang did. I will say the fighting engine is CLEAN though. The final boss fight also sucks ass because the mfer can revive himself if he has meter and dies which is ass. Maybe the later revisions of SF3 are better but I wasn't really feelin it with this.
This is a true story: I was 9 when this came out, and was at one of the first arcades down here that got it. I finally got up to the cabinet and was about to play as Ryu when someone a coin on the cabinet. I did not know that meant they had the next game. I hear behind me, an adult man of african-amercian descent yell "YO MAN, DID YOU JUST TAKE MY NICKEL?" I panicked and said sorry and that they could play and ran out of the arcade and on my way home thought to myself "Oh, is this how people become racist?"
the aesthetics for this one in menus have a sweet spot in my heart, and I think i like literally every iteration of SF3 a lot compared to the previous numbered header entries
not that I think theyre not worth playing but I think every SF3 [insert subtitle here] is way more consistent than it's contemporaries
Dudley so fanny

no real reason to re-visit this game these days aside from the exclusive stage themes + slightly different background art from 2nd Impact.
i do have fond memories of being a kid and bouncing between this and X-Men vs. Street Fighter in arcades, but i can see why this game didn't do well. luckily Capcom was able to salvage the SFIII series with the future iterations.
