Incredibly visuals and sound design. The story is simple but becomes incredible through context of external media. The scares and puzzles are iconic for the medium and it makes sense how other games would go on to copy it.

Replay it basically every year. TobyGames 2012 classic.

A remake of one of RPG Makers most famous games. It is one of the most famous for good reason. This short (I beat it in 55 minutes) horror puzzle trial and error game is well crafted. It’s so short I would definitely say wait until you see a sale on it but I got it on sale for $8 and it is 100% worth that and an easy recommend for a short solid game.

That ending, especially as a father to a little girl, fucked me up.

Solid and tragic storyline which I didn't really fully capture until post game. I assumed I got the 'good ending' without knowing it pretty much ends the same way.

Extremely atmospheric, similar to what you would feel in Amnesia or Silent Hill but in a more inferior manner. Adding the hauntingly great sound design makes the game feel even more immersive.

Sure, this may seem a bit short in terms of game time but I thought it felt just nice. Pacing was good all around and the puzzles in each floor was varied and at least interesting bar maybe the last floor which was slightly more intuitive but still doable.

Wished there was more events/scares throughout as I thought it was lacking in some level specifically the 2nd and 3rd floor which were barren of it at certain points.

Overall, a good game, despite it's short runtime. Full of suspense and a great story within it all.

A remake of a 2012 RPG Maker VX horror classic, The Witch's House MV recreates the entire experience sprite-for-sprite in the newer RPG Maker MV engine.

This means it's a lovely game, because the original was a lovely game. It's become rightly venerated alongside similar works like Mad Father and Misao, due to its haunting atmosphere and effective, paranoia-inducing scares. It's probably best-known for how its two endings complement each other to deliver a shocking conclusion.

I'm especially fond of this game due to my memories of playing the free version in 2018, on a cold yet cozy night, all alone in the dark. I didn't play many video games during that period, so playing The Witch's House and enjoying it is something of a treasured memory. Playing this remake was a way to relive that.

However, the original was freeware, and you're not missing out on anything by choosing that over this - especially when the asking price is so steep. If you deeply wish to show the game's author your appreciation, go ahead and buy it. However, you're not missing out on anything by playing the free version - I'd even say it looks better with RPG Maker VX rather than MV graphics. In either case, The Witch's House is a great 90-minute thrill ride that will always have a place in my heart.

Even with the updated graphics, a lot of this felt by-the-book if you're familiar with RPG Maker horror games - sudden sound effect jump scares, chase sequences, puzzles that are just confusing enough that when you look up the answer online you feel stupid for not figuring it out yourself - but the true ending recontextualizes the whole experience. It uses all of those tropes to pull the rug out from under you at the very end, and it's worth the playthrough for that alone.

The story is alright. I thought that this game would be longer considering all the lets plays I saw of it having at least 7 videos on this game but I only took about 2 hours to pretty much beat this game and get some of the other endings. The puzzles were alright and the atmosphere was pretty good, there was only one puzzle that I had to look up the solution for but other than that it is an alright game.

Já tinha visto gameplay desse jogo há quase 10 anos, mas jogar ele foi uma experiencia completamente nova. Esse jogo é perfeito, sério, a história, gameplay, puzzles, tudo. Tudo é perfeito.

My friend has a clip of me getting spooked by a jumpscare in this game that i’ll never live down

very nostalgic, felt nice getting blatted with a rake over and over again

again

also the extra mode is really neat, the new surprises were very welcome

though ultimately it is just a "getting blatted with a rake" simulator with a very bitter ending (compliment), so i can't rate it much higher personally

Esse é um estilo de jogo que eu me divirto bastante jogando.Tem uns puzzles legais, partes tensas, música boa e um conceito legal.Valeu a pena.

A neat experience that doesn't overstay it's welcome, I recommend getting both endings as that feels like the intended experience, especially with how the second plays out. Trial and error is present but it's not annoying at all due to how close by save points are and the puzzles are very simple.

I love RPG Maker games. This one has a good horror atmosphere and surprising jumps cares. Beware however, because the game is really sad.

Terror bem construído, história interessante com plot twist revoltante(no bom sentido) e puzzle de fazer pensar e pensar bastante.
Recomendadíssimo :)

That ending

The Witch's House is yet another good horror RPG Maker game that features everything you'd expect from this sub-genre: good, simplistic puzzles, immersive music, and the same characteristic mechanics and visuals that resemble almost every game made with this very same engine.

The thing everyone remembers about this one, though, is its ending, and I have to say: Yeah, it's good. It's not in the running for the best ending of all time or anything like that, but it's definitely going to stick with you long after the end credits roll, and that's a lot more of what I can say about a bunch of highly-praised games I've played in the past.

A very solid recommendation for fans of the genre.

Suprisingly scare inducing and atmospheric game.Would absolutely recommend if you are looking something really short but great

Spooktober 2023, Entry #2

The retro RPG Maker graphics, stylized art direction, the surreal yet playful aesthetic, the cerebral jumpscares: this made for a genuinely frightening experience. And that was all before the true ending.

I got the normal ending, had my fun, rated it a 3/5, and nearly sat this down without batting an eye, completely oblivious to what I was missing. The true ending recontextualizes the entire game so dramatically it had might as well not exist without it. It's a fantastic example of lateral storytelling and how to make a tragedy deeply personal. Fuck all that scary monsters, blood-and-gore, watching-people-die Michael Myers nonsense; J-horror really does hit different.

And it's wrapped up neatly in a 3-hour package. In a quagmire of 70-100 hour JRPG epics, I desperately need these single-sitting pick-me-ups, even as they drown me in their despair. I'll be thinking about this one for a while.

just so you know viola is absolutely fucking cute and i will protect her with my life idc

this is a remake of the original the witches house which is another of those incredibly famous classic horror rpgmaker that made letsplayers go fucking wild and make 30 parts of how many deaths they can get lmao and that actually gave me the idea that this game was gonna be pretty decently long but it took me like 2 hours or actually maybe less like what the fuck me when i purposefully spread misinformation

so main thing out of the way the new overhaul of the art direction is a nice addition i mean the original art style was charming i still prefer it actually but its pretty cool to play the game with a new coat of paint it isnt the most rtx on like the mad father remake (which actually has a pretty similar way of how the remake is treated just with a lot more budget lmao) and its pretty weird how its still in 4:3 but i digress

witch house takes place in a … sorceress mansion and this environment is the real protagonist of the game i mean theres viola but shes basically just there to be killed in every single way possible poisoned crushed skewered umh drown due to tadpoles (?) whatever so the real focus of the game is how the house feels alive everything moves and changes shape the magic of the witch can be felt in every single floor and hallway and its clearly fucking with you to make your traversing to the top floor absolute hell but thats fine because thats what the game is all about

thats right this game being an rpgmaker game its gonna have a lot of puzzles hahahahahah … i fucking hate puzzles dear lord but these ones were actually kind of straightforward and fast to do so its fine also most of the deaths will result in a quick respawn of the protagonist right before her death and it worked most of the time apart from 1 you will know anyway yeah whatever not the biggest fan of puzzles i dont care about this one

the atmosphere tho ??? unmatched most of the parts of the house have some really particular vibe like the bedrooms or the halls or the gardens or the cellars everything has a distinct aura and it will always get you in a really good mood or like shit your pants if youre a wimp and then get you killed probably

thats the gameplay ! die ! thank you

most of the art design is focused on making the house full of details here and there and when you actually get some portraits theyre kind of … there !

so yeah whatever most of the lore is actually infodumped at the end or read in some diaries or told by the black cat of wonders whos actually snappier than what i thought can i say that i love this bitch hes fun and entertaining

the true ending actually made me gasp because i absolutely forgot about the main twist and i lost all my hair my pores are clear and my mane is gone

still one good game to just play through once in a while its still not IB tho

kolejna gra z serii dobrze że iga kupiła a nie ja bo it's not worth 50 zlotys

I played it right after the original, obviously the graphics were better but ig the appeal of the old one prevailed

my favourite game of all time. i would kill someone to experience this one again

Abriu, jogou, zerou.

Recomendo.
