Weird fighting game for sure, it's not a bad thing but you'll definitely be completely lost when trying it out.
It really feel rough around the edges with a huge lack of normal moves and combo, the movement feel great nonetheless with all the dashing around and I wish we got something like this in the Arcana Heart series.
I'll also add that if you decide somehow to really tryhard this game with a friend or some people, the game CAN work really nicely and it feels like watching a dance between two players, both throwing and dodging projectiles. You can definitely see that the devs had an precise idea when making this game.
The story mode is probably the worst I've ever played from any fighting game, it ditches its fighting games mechanics and just go back to its roots and you get an ennemy that has infinite super with lot of invulnerability frames and 90% of the stage is lava, all of them do chip damage and some are unblockable. I kind of understand the concept but it's just poorly done and it doesn't feel good at all.
Apart from that, as always from touhou the art and overall atmosphere from the game is great and so is the soundtrack.

Probably not a very good fighter in the grand scheme of things (so I'm told) but it's one I can actually kind of figure out, or otherwise get decently far even by just mashing, which is good imo because I'm bad at fighters but like finishing things. Much unlike the shmups this one seemed to have given me a good ending despite using one of my continues and being on easy mode, so that's nice too for sure. PLUS it's the cutest shit in the whole world GOD these sprites are so adorable i'm going to adopt this game's entire cast
Pretty much all a Touhou fighting game needs to be. Fun and expressive sprites, interesting character interactions and dialogue, and plenty of creative bullet related attacks. Suika is a really fun new addition too. That being said, the story mode bosses spell card phases just spam repetitive and occasionally unfair attacks which can be really annoying. Not all characters are created equal, either— for some reason Youmu is the only character who primarily relies on melee. Still a fun, cute fighting game for Touhou fans though. If you had a friend who also enjoyed Touhou that would play it with you I imagine it would be a lot more gratifying than playing against AI.
Fun game that's pretty easy to play for a beginner (as far as fighting games go). The way the spell card system is implemented in story mode is really cool, even if a few of the CPUs get a bit spammy with them.
Also Pandemonium is a really cool final attack. Destroying the UI and leaving the player not knowing how much health Suika has left as they slowly chip away at her health makes the last part of the fight really tense.

Even if this game wasnt a complete pain in the ass to set up it is still an extremely mediocre fighter that has nothing that makes touhou interesting or fun. Very few new characters or music. It might as well just be a fan game. There is no reason for this game's existence other than zun thinking that developing a game in a genre that gets little representation on pc would work a second time around. It didn't because in order to make a fun fighter you need more than basic programming and good music composition skills. All of the combos have diagnal inputs but they just don't fucking work, and the blocks are too generous. Honestly just stick to the shmups
