I was so mad when this came out. I waited months; my favorite big idiot Wario was finally getting his own game on the big boy Gamecube. Warioland 3 and 4 were so damn good, this was bound to be right up there!

I was so wrong. The perspective on this game is constantly fighting with you, and it's one of the most unreliable platformers of all time. It just doesn't have the quick and accurate movement options that any good platformer has.

This game tears ass, piledrive eldritch horrors into dust.

An eclectic GameCube gem, this one, and honestly one of Treasure's better games. The bosses are all, like, sleep paralysis demons—conventional Mario would never dare tread. I can still hear Wario screaming, "NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH" at me from having the game on pause.

Probably one of the most underrated games on the Gamecube

When I was little, I remember loving this game and wanted to come back to it again, but we lost it.
Cut to a few years later, while I was playing on the gamecube, my dad approaches me and tells me to go downstairs, drink a lot of tea, use the bathroom and come back.
When I booted it up, that spinning coin in the loading screen looked oddly familiar, then was blown away when it zoomed in to the man himself, in his glorious castle, and hearing the triumphant music and those great words:
"WELCOME, TO WARIO WORLD!!!"
Then, the entire day blew by like that.

Played through this multiple times as a kid, but I think the best part of this game is soundtrack and design. The gameplay itself is kind of interesting but gets repetetive. All around not too long, so worth playing through still.

I find that the idea behind Wario World is a good one, but the execution of the game itself was pretty poor, and could be improved in a lot of ways.

The secret stages are a cool idea, they're basically puzzle rooms where you have to use Wario's moveset to get to the goal and obtain the Red Diamonds, which are basically the equivalent of the Power Stars of Mario's games, the main problem they have is that there's a lot of them, and a lot of the time they just feel the same, but a bit harder.

The bosses themselves are actually one of the strongest points in the game, there's one per each stage, and an additional final boss, so for the game's length, it is packed with Boss Fights, the bosses themselves are also charming, with visuals similar to the ones of a comic book.

But sadly, this is everything I found worth praising about the game, the level design feels really repetitive, being mainly a item hunt most of the time, with a lot of combat sections, that are mainly mashing the attack button over and over again with no actual strategy, I think that the game would have improved a lot if some challenged from the Red Diamonds would have been part of the levels intead.

Then there's the fact that it's hard for Wario to lose all his health bar, but it's really easy to fall onto an endless pit, which doesn't translate to a Game Over, but brings you to a weird room where you have to find the exit, which is generated randomly. Those segments main purpose is to make you lose money, but money on this game is basically worthless apart from buying some recovery items, so in reality, those sections are only a time sink.

Overall, I think the game itself had the potential to be good, but there's a lot of weird decisions in its core design that only harm it.

Super fun Gamecube platformer where Wario tries to defeat an evil gem. Drags a bit by the end but it has fantastic 2000s WarioWare-era attitude and fun beat-em-up/platformer hybrid design. A lot of little things you wish were a little better, but a really nice way to spend 4 hours or so.

It's really cool to see the Wario platformers get a 3d entry. On the same console that launched with Luigi's mansion even. Big fan of the more fleshed out extended Mario universe Nintendo went for in this era. Wario games have always been a more unhinged version of Mario, and that really shines in this game especially in the boss fights.

It's very short but I think that's in its favor. Does not get the opportunity to overstay its welcome, and it maintains its pretty clean pacing for a majority of the game. I wish money did more than act as a revival in the rare case you die. But otherwise the collectation elements are a lot of fun, ranging from mandatory progression items, optional stuff that just unlocks Wario ware crossover levels for the gba link cable, optional stuff that effects the ending, health upgrades, etc. Love the challenge rooms and their light puzzle solving and especially the platforming rooms. You never quite know what to expect and almost all of them are good. Except that one where you just slowly pick up and throw like 20 Wario head statues. They break up the gameplay really nicely and just like the game itself, are generally pretty fast and feel good to play.

Great music, graphics hold up very well, most of the bosses are really fun and bare minimum just absolutely wild. Good personality, sound effects, level themes, etc. Very solid aside from a few small moments that feel like padding and the final boss being a bit of a dud. Also I really like the hub world, something about it feels so alive.

Nothing to blow your mind or anything but a very cool little oddity that I wish Nintendo would do more of these days. Don't really have anything bad to say about it.

Way too good to just be part of a spin-off series. Just long enough to not overstay its welcome, but it can get repetitive.

This games really weird, but that doesnt stop it from being really good, I sorta played the game in bursts for a while, considering I have lots of other games I would wanna play, I actually dont remember the day I started it so I just picked a random day with the faint memory of where i was when i started it, anyways this game goes hard and im glad i played it, the ideas and mechanics are all really good, theres only a couple spots where I ad no idea what i was doing which would be the mirror mini bosses and I faintly remember issues with a snow miniboss as well, some of the platforming challenges kinda sucked later on but i blame that on my controller, anyways this games underated and really good, play it

Wario World is great!! It nails the transition of Wario Land’s gameplay style into 3D with an expanded beat ‘em up moveset that feels crunchy and powerful. Using enemies as tools to bang and throw against the environment feels so “Wario” and never gets old. While the game is very short, its only true downside, each level and theme is so varied that they all set themselves apart with their own gimmicks so well. This is legit a great game, I would highly recommend to anyone who likes 3D platformers with a focus on finding secrets.

For a personal anecdote, I first played this game in high school when a close friend challenged me to beat this 100% without a guide. Her and I swapped games to borrow over the winter break. She loaned me Luigi’s Mansion, this game, and Viewtiful Joe. That was the last time I did a full play through of this game but I would love to return to this one some day. (I did successfully complete 100% all three games without any guides as challenged btw, I was so proud.)

Made by Treasure of all people, Wario World is a game about an evil black jewel that eats all your money and valuables and turns them into monsters. Wario being Wario, doesn't take this shit and platforms through 4 diverse levels throwing enemies around and smacking shit up. What it lacks in length it makes up for in fantastic models, a rich and diverse art style, and great music. Think of it like Wario Land 4 but in 3D and with more collectables.

Wario may be fine but he is swimming in Gold.

Appreciate the crazyness of the bosses designs. Boring and repetitive game

A very underlooked and pretty fun Wario 3D platformer!
Your classic Wario stuff, greediness and all. I'm really starting to think how funny it is throughout all these games with whole societies seeing Wario as this hero, when he's just a greedy son of a bitch who's just in it for the money. I love it!
This game was way more fun than I thought it would be. It only has 8 levels, but the levels are BIG with tons of things to collect in them. Each have 5 Spritelings which give you useful tips and different endings depending on how many you collect. There's also red crystals which allow you to fight bosses of levels (not WORLDS, there are like 13 bosses it's wonderful), gold statues which get you half a heart per level, and treasures! Apparently, all treasures in a level allows you to send some microgames from the original WarioWare and demo them on your GBA with the Link Cable, which is neat! Besides all the collectables, the game just feels good. Wario controls nice, there's no health or anything, and if you fall down a pit you get into a purgatory-like zone where you can lose some of your coins, which felt more annoying than anything but overall the game is pretty fun!
The music is pretty banging, all things considered. Especially the first few levels, which I can remember the music the most from, are wonderful. It was so good that Greenhorn Ruins' theme was remixed as Glittertown in Wario Land Shake It!
And thus concludes my Wario journey (so far). I'm very glad for it to end on a good note, as this game was much better than I expected! I hope this game gets some type of rerelease or sequel soon, I feel like if given the chance this game could go far for our favorite man, Wario.

Smoking cigars with your grampa as he shows you his collection of rare coins.

nothing game, despite the wario seal and treasure dev. played about half of it and it's playable but there's nothing actually engrossing about it

Wario World is a fantastic little game. Lots of collectibles that honestly can be found if you just search EVERYWHERE, and the bosses and especially Wario's animations are AMAZING! And of course, the lovely Charles Martinet does a great job expressing Wario's wacky voice.

Has some good levels but the lows are a slog

Nyeaah!! nyeahh! nyeah nyeah nyeaaahhh!!

One of the peak performances in terms of the Greedy powerhouse known as Wario! The game is reminiscent to others like Klonoa and others around that error of wacky platforming and classic style levels such as Haunted House, ice level, Egypt Level, and so on. The really fun gameplay loop of pile driving all the little goon enemies and completing all the puzzles to collect the treasures. One of the more recent memories I have of the good ol' days of Blockbuster and watching my brother play through this and beat it. (The game is more on the shorter side of things which isn't bad at all). I'd say it's about time we get another Wario game like this and hold off on the gimmick microgames for a little bit.

Wario World! What a trip. Treasure and Wario are two names I usually associate with 2D platformers, but this 3D platformer really shines, despite some complaints.

I'm finishing this one just having beaten Wario Land 4 a few months ago. This has given me a chance to appreciate Wario as a character. I honestly find his character more interesting than Mario, in that being Mario's negative counterimage, he carries more of a presence to him. I say this because I feel as if, personality wise, Mario is a faceless entity in some ways. He is the faceless hero, who responds exactly as you expect him to respond (he shows the most personality in the Mario and Luigi series, I'd argue).

Wario on the other hand, has selfish intentions from the start. He is greedy and will do anything for jewels, treasure, moolah. He is not as lightweight or gentle as Mario, in manner or physical approach. He is a weighty, muscly beast, who beats the living crap out of enemies that look like they're from the drawings of a disturbed child. Everything is expected yet totally unexpected in his world.

This oddly, is what makes Wario lovable and funny. His physical manner is what lends to sections of physical comedy, online with Buster Keaton, and we recognize the folly of his greedy quest from the beginning, invoking a kind of loving pity despite Wario's brazenness and strength.

I mention all this, because what really stood out to me about this game is how Treasure really took all these aspects of Wario's identity and successfully integrated it into a 3D space. Honestly, this game I think perfects the surreal aspects of the Wario Land series, and goes even beyond that. The enemy design is extremely clever, and sometimes random and a little uncanny, which fits the mood of the game perfectly. Although most of the enemy types are recycled throughout the stages, each one is reskinned to fit the theme of each level, with amazing creativity. I can't even explain some of the enemy designs, but wow, what crazy fever dream did they come out of? This doesn't exclude bosses, that ice stage boss...
Level themes also fit Wario perfectly, circuses, shady forests, halls of mirrors, ancient ruins. You feel like you are going through these kind of shady and surreal, trickster or mystical places.

It's not all glowing, however. Many times in the game, there is precision platforming, which does not work well at all with the Gamecube controllers extremely sensitive control sticks. Also, a lot of the game is just finding the right camera angle so you can do said precision platforming. It's exasperated near the end of the game, with the obstacle courses you go through.
The puzzles too, most of the time they were clever, but in the last sand stage, boy were they hell. We all know how fun block puzzles are (groans).

It is kind of a frustrating and difficult game, but it is made up for in spades by being just an odd and oddly endearing game, one that defines Wario's identity as a brazen goofball more than any other Wario game I know of. If you have a Gamecube or Gamecube-compatible Wii, give this one a shot if you can afford it. Otherwise, let's just pray that this gets some sort of modern port.
