Gonna be real I think I play this game the wrong way. I hop in a private convoy with one of my friends and we treat it like fucking mario kart just absolutely bombing it down the road to see who can finish the job first. It's the perfect rage game when some asshole starts trying to change lanes because little does he know you're going 105 right behind him and you swerve and tip your truck and lose like 15 minutes of progress getting towed to a service station. I have no idea if I can recommend it to the target audience or not since to me it's the exact opposite as a "calm and relaxing game" lmao
base game: much like its predecessor, ats requires some heavy dlc dedication for one to spend more hours on it. one thing it definitely doesn't do nearly as well as ets2 is realism; you may even say it's like if you got a dozen polish nerds to make a game out of google street view pictures, because IT LITERALLY IS. you'll like it if you're a fan of the games like me but it definitely won't convince any of the skeptics.
i enjoy just turning this game on and doing a job while somethings on in the background, but i think without having dlc and considering how much dlc there is it just feels like im missing out on a big part of the game. of the 3 states available in the base game i feel like after about 30 hours in im getting tired of driving by all of the same places i already recognize. i feel like ive been making 45k-60k per long job since level 10 and it hasnt changed at level 20. ive also already hired like 3 employees and i feel like theres not much left to work towards in the game except for driving around and doing jobs when im bored. i was having fun working towards growing my evil truck empire but now i feel like ive grown it as much as i can. there is still some fun to be had though when youre driving like a maniac speeding everywhere weaving between cars with traffic violations turned off
multiplayer is funny too i like putting on a fake southern accent and fucking with people who take the game too seriously. if you have friends with the game doing jobs with them can be fun too

American Truck Simulator does exactly what it advertises. With a graphically pretty recreation of America's highway routes, and a wide selection of semi trucks and trailers, American Truck Simulator brings a realistic simulator experience to anyone who may want to step into the life of a semi trucker. If you have friends who share your odd interest, the game does have multiplayer support for convoys. As an SCS Software game, like Euro Truck Simulator 2, 90% of the game will be locked behind paid DLC. Thankfully, the DLC is on sale more times than not, but they're definitely additions you'll want if the game interests you.
