Deadbolt is a game with a unique hook and a great sense of style. Although the combat puzzles are pretty straightforward, I was still pretty satisfied after completing each level. The variety of weapon and enemy types kept me playing the game through the end.

My experience with the game was most likely unique due to the fact that I saved up money to buy the scythe as a starting weapon as early as possible. Although I felt this was not the intended way to play the game, I appreciate the fact that the game remained sufficiently challenging, clearly indicating competency of balance.

I would recommend this game to those who enjoy 2D platformers with AI-centric puzzles, or those who like undead characters (the character and environment design is pretty incredible).

A 2D action/stealth game similar in style to Gunpoint but allows you to take a more action orientated approach. Shoot, use melee, or sneak your way through killing all enemies or reach the objective in each stage. Good atmosphere and music, a variety of enemy and weapon types, a hard mode that changes up the stages quite a bit, and community made workshop levels giving you even more options when the main game is done.

so so so very fond of this game. incredibly fun, stunning soundtrack, i keep wanting to play more. i just wish it were longer!

The Horsemen achievements are silly

I found this game randomly just browsing on steam one day. Very glad I did this is a awesome stealth game, with a great soundtrack.

Most disappointing indie game I've played. It had everything for me to love it, yet it was the opposite. A shame.

Outstanding OST, decent game

This game is absolute hell to speedrun/perfect (aka getting 50% of achievements) but overall it's absolutely solid

Game feels really good but I was expecting a lot more tactical depth a la Gunpoint and instead got a pretty straightforward shooting game with stealth elements

One of the indie greats, Deadbolt is a masterclass in melding gameplay and tone.

Bringing over some obvious influences from Hotline Miami, Deadbolt is a sidescroller that has you traversing each level and trying to kill everyone in it. Also like Hotline Miami, you die in one hit, so you need to be careful about where and how you kill enemies to avoid bringing the whole level's worth of them down on your head.

The comparisons to HM end here, though. Where Hotline Miami 2 was a disappointing sequel that took only the worst lessons from its predecessor, Deadbolt refines and innovates on the formula in a way that creates a strikingly unique experience. A wide range of enemies, weapons, and unique level layouts and mechanics keep the game from getting stale, and an intriguing plot keeps you invested in the story of the world you're killing your way through.

The game goes on sale for a few bucks all the time, and is well worth picking up even at full price (Ten bucks at time of writing). Deadbolt may be slept on compared to Hopoo's other games, but is absolutely a gem.

vaisefuder jogo dificil do krl

that soundtrack... makes me wanna boogie!

An stealth 2D game with an amazing soundtrack.
It's relatively short and will probably take 8-12 hours to complete. Going for all Achievements will take a lot of time tho. Requiring to finish the game in under 1 hour and without one death on a single Save. But still a really nice experience overall.

great soundtrack, beautiful pixel artstyle, serviceable story, and badass gameplay.

though i wish that the devs supported community created content more.....it could have made the game's lifespan waay longer

I liked it but I don't remember the story at all probably my fault though cause I played every level and then stopped at the final level and didn't play it for multiple years. Good soundtrack and art though. It plays fine, simple shooter with a small variety of weapons. Not very fast paced, feels more tactical than it might look. Would have benefitted from more mechanics, or at least something cool with your reaper powers that you can do besides turn into a ghost and enter vents. Yeah that's all you can do with your reaper powers. I also don't particularly like cover shooters which this can play like at times.

Pocas cosas menos badasses que ser la personificación de la muerte y te maten de un soplido

The game with the greatest OST ever made

Man, this game. It's the very definition of an underappreciated gem. Everything blends in together to form an experience that, while very clearly inspired by Hotline Miami, completely stands on its own two feet.

The soundtrack by Chris Christodoulou is probably his best work on a game so far, which says a lot since he is such a phenomenal composer. Tracks like Now I Am Become Death can be beautifully relaxing while others like Hemolysis REALLY pump you up. It's perfect for the game's atmosphere; this gritty, bizarre place filled with drugged zombies and heartbroken vampires, who all want the same thing; to feel alive again.

The gameplay is pretty spot on too. It is similar to Hotline Miami in the way that you're supposed to go through many rooms filled with enemies, and you die in one hit. However, it does many other different things from it too. The most obvious would be the sidescroller perspective instead of top down, but there are a lot of intricate mechanics like headshots, loadouts, and vents that really give you the freedom to tackle missions in your own way. You could choose to not use vents, play more aggressively, or you could stay in the shadows, catching undeads by surprise through the use of the vents. You could start with a silenced pistol, or a SMG. Due to this, the game is very replayable, with you experimenting with many possible routes. That, on top of the addition of custom levels and a hard mode, make it so that you can sink in a good amount of hours into this game, even despite its short length.

The story is a little more on the background, but it is fascinating nonetheless. The highlight of it all is easily Ibzan and his relationship with The God of Life, the flames. Long story short, Ibzan was a former reaper, just like the protagonist of this game, who wasn't treated very well by the flames. This eventually led to Ibzan taking his own life, turning the former reaper into an undead skeleton. Being a skeleton, Ibzan wakes up with an overwhelming cold, and when he realized the flames that gave him warmth abandoned him, feels an intense amount of regret, and starts planning to travel to the flames' realm using a portal made of flesh, gathering many undead gangs to do so, with the promise of making them feel alive and warm. The flames, while completely abandoning Ibzan in disgust, tries to learn from the past reaper, giving our protagonist things Ibzan did not have during his time as the reaper, like companionship and entertainment in his home. In the end, the reaper has to kill Ibzan, with the flames giving him a well deserved rest. So uh, yeah pretty dope story.

Some VERY small complaints I have with the game is that it can be a little unstable at times, especially with custom maps. Some bugs here and there too, but it's not too bad. Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone, it has a special place in my heart.

I recommend it despite mixed feelings. This game is for the people out there who want to meticulously plan out levels and execute them for a perfect score. This game is for the people who want an action game where break neck decisions could mean life or death. What feels like arbitrary reasoning to get 5-stars for missions dampens the former and dying in one hit dampens the latter.

The fun of Deadbolt comes from formulating a plan & seeing just how well you can stick to it. Deciding what enemies to take out first, what items to grab, figuring out what areas you can use to your advantage & when to reveal yourself to enemies

And what makes this game a true triumph in the stealth game genre is its best levels are the boss fights, because Deadbolt understands that stealth bosses are at their best when they're a well guarded target the player needs to figure out how to take out. All and all, Deadbolt is fantastic

what if.... kongregate flash game..... but..... $10......

seriously though... lazy symmetrical level designs, bad ai, stiff imprecise controls, inconsistent difficulty (last level is a total headache but most of the levels beforehand are either annoyingly frustrating or stupid easy), honestly if i had anything positive to say about it, its that the soundtrack is great. stylish. pretty good. not a good game though

For a stealth game, it's stealth mechanics are left to be desired, but was fun when the stealth did work.

Certainly serviceable as a puzzle game with twitch challenges thrown in to keep the seat from getting to inlaid underneath you, it fails in its repetition in ways that the obvious influences didn't (Hotline Miami, Gunpoint) and in ways that were not issues in the dev's other works. I'm glad that the studio was able to take a break away from Risk of Rain in between the first and second instalment in that series, so the itches in the software feel more like picking a real stalactite of a scab off than a mosquito bite, but they returned to what they knew with such aplomb that makes it feel as though the deviation was really a dead end for their appetites.
