Solid platforming venture that does a much better job of diversifying its levels than its predecessor. The soundtrack is a major step up as well, providing new tracks to enjoy rather than relying on remix after remix. The Tucks' and their associated animal underlings are much more lively and charismatic enemies than the Tikis. Swimming in this game, however, is imprecise at times, in a very precision-demanding platformer. The bonus levels still suck.

Another nearly perfect video game that just cannot support the tremendous, crushing weight of the Wii U. A superior game for those who simply could not accept the slight imprecisities of the wiimote's shaking inputs. An equal game for me, someone in particular love with the first game's levels and the former ruthlessness of its rocket barrels.

Boring. Just play DKC2 again instead.

This game was made by the best monkeys Nintendo Miyamoto could round up. And goddamn is it a good monkey game.

Simple y llanamente, uno de los mejores plataformas 2D jamás hechos. Todo bien: Diseño de niveles, música, controles... El único puntito más flojo es que visualmente no tiene tanta personalidad como otros juegos.

One of the best platformers ever a true masterpiece

A gorgeous game, and that’s the problem. It dazzles with debris and clutters the screen until you confuse garnish with ground and die. It follows the Rayman school of just-in-time platforming with contortions so flashy and desperate to entertain that they exhaust rather than delight. And the elaborate boss sequences, they repeat until you simply go apeshit.

All this graphical fuss distracts from what is really just a safe, unfocused sequel. It’s Donkey Kong: World Tour (now with more Kongs), not the strange frozen tropics promised by its title.

This is ultimately a game with no good reason to exist.

The best 2d platformer ever made. The level design, music, and visuals are all genius.

Seashore War actually makes me cry

Best 2d platformer I've ever played. Every level always offers something new and controlling ape feels great.

Music is top-notch, DK has a great weight and jump, the mechanics are cool. It's unbalanced (Dixie OP) and 100%-ing it became not worth in one fell swoop. But it's good. Probably better played co-op.

These remakes have good gameplay, but the b0rked the atmosphere and mood that made the original Donkey Kong Country on SNES great. This cartoony kid's show goofballery is not it, my dudes.

In my mind this is indisputably the best non-metroidvania 2D platformer of the last 10-15 years.

One of the best Wii U titles. Fun, fast paced and flashy platforming!

Now this is what I'm talking about. Everything about this game is so gorgeous... the graphics, the style, the soundtrack, the themes, the camera... it is just a masterpiece. If anything, I'd like it to be a little longer, but that's okay, as it still has many collectibles. And the stopping to blow things and the motion controls... gone. David Wise makes it even better in the sound department. But I wish the enemies weren't so lifeless, where's K. Rool, Nintendo?!

One of if not the greatest platformers ever made. The level design is sublime and demands mastery for hardcore gamers but also forgives the casual with purchasable items to make levels easier. An incredible soundtrack helps bolster the frantic but methodical traversal through levels. My only complaint is that the boss fights are a little too long! But this is a must play on Wii U and Switch

better that dkcr for sure, but not by much

Best 2D game Nintendo has ever made probably

Fun and inventive level design, great visuals and a genuinely solid difficulty curve are all great together but the amazing soundtrack bumps an already solid platformer to another level

Seriously just perfect in every way. I've beaten this game like four or five times now and the art direction, music, level design and pitch perfect platforming blows me away every single playthrough.

Unlike other platformers where the levels you explore rarely feel organic outside of the realm of game design, the levels and worlds of Tropical Freeze are built to feel like real, living parts of the world the DK crew lives in, and sometimes there's even a cool little narrative that progresses as you travel through the worlds. No two levels are alike and it makes every single moment of the experience a joy. My favourite level, Cliffslide Slide, comes towards the end of the game, and features silhouetted versions of the playable characters against an avalanche, and it's just a sight to behold.

The music by DKC vet David Wise is also one of the best in the entire industry. Songs like Mangrove Cove, Grassland Groove and Punch Bowl are instant earworms, and it's a shame that more of these tracks weren't included in Smash Ultimate.

This one is definitely up there with Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey as one of Nintendo's modern masterpieces. Play it now if you haven't.

a masterclass in 2D platforming. mario could take some good ass notes from this one

2nd best monkey game behind DKC2 as it fixes the issues Returns has and adds a lot more to them

In 1994 I received a VHS tape in the mail, the tape was labeled Donkey Kong Country EXPOSED. I watched that tape more times than I am readily willing to admit. What I am willing to admit, is that Tropical Freeze shattered opinions that had formed in my mind when I was six years old. Donkey Kong Country is not the king of the ‘Kong’ series. I’m still holding my breath for another entry here, but they sort of took the series to it’s natural endpoint in terms of game-play.

if your game has Donkey Kong it's an immediate 10/10, well then why did I give this a 9...................................................................... I don't like Funky Kong.

Kinda overrated imo. It really is better than Returns, the levels are the most creative I've seen in a platformer, and playing it feels really good. However, it's the actual platforming what feels really frustrating. Many times the game asks of you to go at max speed and react at what's appearing in front of you, but then gives little to no reatction time or suddenly you have to stop for a platform to appear without any notice, making you die over and over again. And the dying and respawning sequence isn't really short or pleasant at all.

Also it has some little things like Dixie being overpowered and the obvious choice between the 3 companions, Rambi being underutilised (which I actually don't know if it's a good or a bad thing), and the bosses are hit or miss. Also get rid of extra lifes, they make no sense anymore. This game is better than all its predecessors in every way but atmosphere, but we're not in 1995 and maybe it should move way past what the first games did.
