For my 5th birthday I received a gamecube with The Legend of Zelda Collection, DBZ Budokai and a superman game. Later on that year I would venture into MK and thus a love of arcade style fighting games is born. Smash never did it for me, I have always loved the DBZ and MK games, Budokai will always be holding a special place because of being that first one I remember playing, and I still will boot up that gamecube to play this(as of March 2021). Combat was very fluid for it's time, I remember it looked very good despite the limitations and God those combos were badass and fun.
The first genuinley good DBZ game, and a great one at that. Gameplay is similar to Tekken, but is a bit more accessible with auto combos. Characters can also use special capsule abilities in verus matches & the world tourament mode so any character can be made useful. Story mode is still one of the best from any DBZ game, and The Legend of Hercule mode is still a lot of fun. (Only thing that sucks is getting Dragonballs for breakthrough skills)
Don't know what's up with all of the shit talk on this game. This game is fun as fuck, was the first DBZ game to introduce actual combos and a layer of technicality with combo cancels.
The story mode faithfully followed the series, and was one of the main ways I digested the story of DBZ up to the cell games. 10/10 Fuck the haters
